Zero Suit Samus: Special Moves

<Standard Special Move: Paralyzer>
http://img407.imageshack.us/img407/5391/50842328aq2.jpg
Bzzzzzzzzzzt! I can’t get enough of this.

A personal protection device, the paralyzer stuns opponents. If you can charge it up for a bit, you can land additional attacks while your opponent is stunned.

http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/7383/58530804mp9.jpg
A down smash will fire it at your feet!

But this is only self-defense at best. It does not have the power of an explosive attack. Where and when you use this is key.

What really brings out some characteristic Samus skills is when this gun transforms and releases a whip: the Plasma Whip.

<Side Special Move: Plasma Whip>
http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/6538/21059764tm4.jpg
The flash at the tip of this short whip is quite powerful!

<Up Special: Plasma Wire>
http://img265.imageshack.us/img265/560/31665026jn0.jpg
Shoot it straight up to pull enemies toward you!

These two moves can be used to grab and hang from an edge. They can reach even if the ledge is pretty far away, so pay close attention to distance and timing and aim to dangle from the edge.

http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/4308/28083796wy9.jpg
Pzzzzt! What a magnificent edge grab!

Here ya go:

<Cook Kirby>

Kirby is quite the glutton. He apparently even does his own cooking.

Welcome to Kirby’s cooking class!

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/characters/images/kirby/kirby_071009a-l.jpg

The cook puts on his hat!

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/characters/images/kirby/kirby_071009b-l.jpg

He takes out a giant pot!

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/characters/images/kirby/kirby_071009c-l.jpg

Dinner’s ready! He rings his bell.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/characters/images/kirby/kirby_071009d-l.jpg

He tosses his enemies into the pot...

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/characters/images/kirby/kirby_071009e-l.jpg

Simmers them gently and deliberately...

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/characters/images/kirby/kirby_071009f.jpg

OK! Order up!

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/characters/images/kirby/kirby_071009g-l.jpg

Once you take out the stock, your enemy gets blasted off.

But is that a real dish? Something like stone soup, maybe? Can you put just anything in there? Are you sure?

ya, same here. Ill play him, but he probably wont be my main.

My main in Melee was Ness, and I hate the new guy Lucas. He's basiclly Ness with a different hair style and less badass.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl Delayed To 2008 In US

George Harrison opened Nintendo's media event in San Francisco today with confirmation on the new release date for Super Smash Bros. Brawl, recently delayed for Japan. According to George, the new North American ship date for the Wii brawler is now February 10, 2008. George put a positive spin on the post holiday bump, simply saying the developers needed more time. I'll be playing it in just a few minutes, so expect first hands-on impressions soon.

The original Sonic the Hedgehog game used only one button. I think its simple yet exhilarating play was its virtue.

And given that this game’s controls are also simple, I think it personifies his distinct characteristics.

<Side Special Move: Spin Dash>
http://img3.freeimagehosting.net/uploads/6d9afe3f62.jpg

Yeah, you have to have this.

Hop into a supersonic Spin Dash. If you charge it up just a bit, your speed will increase.

It’s also possible to rise up while spinning.

http://img3.freeimagehosting.net/uploads/45614d6623.jpg
Spin Dash, jump. A two-hit combo.

http://img3.freeimagehosting.net/uploads/b0f05546d8.jpg
Then keep pursuing with a midair attack!

http://img3.freeimagehosting.net/uploads/f6d5a0b644.jpg
And do a Spin Dash in midair to return.

That, too?

<Down Special Move: Spin Charge>

By holding the Control Stick down and tapping the special-move button, you charge up your spin and do a Spin Dash. This may feel better for some—there’s no pop.

http://img3.freeimagehosting.net/uploads/dd40eeb18f.jpg
KEEEEEEEEEE!

<Up Special Move: Spring Jump>

And his up special move is the Spring Jump. That spring launches you wayyy up in the air.

http://img3.freeimagehosting.net/uploads/6ba5cd6d43.jpg
That’s high!

You might not use it on the ground much, but rumor has it that if you do, the spring that remains can be used by other characters.

Ah! It’s true.

The scale of this stage is one of the grandest in the Smash Bros series. The scale is, say, about as same as that Temple stage—you know the one I’m talking about?

It’s New Pork City.

It is a city of chaos.

http://img49.imageshack.us/img49/2224/46981989ko4.jpg
It’s too detailed to fully understand...

http://img49.imageshack.us/img49/2236/41297965tw5.jpg
The buildings are like...billboards?

At any rate, it’s big, so if all someone does is run away, there will be no end to it. But with so much freedom, it becomes a giant playground.

http://img49.imageshack.us/img49/854/49220799de8.jpg
There’s quite a lot of freedom.

Also, a monster known as the "Ultimate Chimera" appears on this stage.

http://img145.imageshack.us/img145/6673/13779496cu1.jpg
The-there it is!

If this guy sinks his teeth into you, it will launch you off in one blow. It’s pretty much certain that if you get hit, you’ll lose a life. But there’s nothing you can do. I mean, it IS the Ultimate Chimera.

http://img49.imageshack.us/img49/4728/32881217yp9.jpg
I’m no maaaaaaaatch...

Ploogle
10-15-2007, 06:04 PM
...the heck? That's a really random stage...

I hope they bring back Hyrule Temple, or at least a remake of it.

Believe it or not, I'm very motivated to get a higher percentage on the "Hidden Packages." :p

Didnt have time to post the pictures sorry. But there are the words.

What is the Home-Run Contest? It’s a competition to see who can hit Sandbag the farthest in just ten seconds!

You see Sandbag and a character on the platform.

At the start, it’s just you and Sandbag.

Then you just beat Sandbag silly, filling up his damage meter.

There’s only a 10-second time limit!

Before time runs out, grab the Home-Run Bat on the ground and do a smash attack with it!

PWANG! You launch him!

Fly! Flyyy!

Compete for longest distance.

Flight distances are recorded for each character. Go! Break the record! Set your own!!

But this time... there are four differences!

1: The stadium platform is protected by a shield.

Whoa! This nice feature keeps you from falling.

If you don’t put some force into it, you won’t break through the shield, so you can pummel Sandbag to your heart’s content. Surely this will allow you to string together new combos.

2: Two players can play together.

Incredible! Two can enjoy it!

As a tag team, you can challenge yourselves to set even greater records. You’ll have to work perfectly together, though.

3: Two-player alternating play.

Compete for distance in two matches!

Ah, competition—that’s what the Stadium is all about. Players compete to see who can hit the farthest.

4: Online competitions.

You can’t tell from this shot, but this is an online match.

This option can be found under With Friends. And it supports both the two-player cooperative and two-player alternating modes.

This is some rather rich functionality. You’ll be able to play just this mode quite a bit. Amazing, isn’t it?

SWSilentkiller

Meowth
Meowth. It’s considered a major Pokémon, but it did not show up in Melee. It now makes its first appearance since the original Smash Bros.

Meowth appears!

It unleashes a slow coin barrage!

They call this Pay Day, but it’s not like it’s getting any coins out of it.

It doesn’t appear to be throwing the coin on its forehead.

Huh? That definitely appears to be a coin on its forehead, but what do you suppose they call it in Japan?

Maybe if you check the Japanese version of Smash Bros. Dojo you can find out...

How to use the Wii Remote

Believe it or not, but you can use four controller types with this game! But everyone seems to wonder the most about how the Wii Remote works when held sideways.

Please allow me to explain.

+Control Pad : Move

Press left or right to walk and press up to jump.

If you’re in a real hurry, press twice. Press left or right twice to run and press down for a short time to fall through some floors.

Press sideways twice to dash!

2 Button : Basic Moves

Just press the button for a standard attack. Press it while pressing a direction on the +Control Pad for a strong attack.

You can perform smash attacks in one of the following ways:

1: Press the 1 Button and the 2 Button at the same time.
2: Press any direction on the +Control Pad and the 2 Button at the same time.
Just pick whichever one is easiest for you!!

Press the 2 Button at the same time you press up,
sideways, or down!

1 Button : Special Moves

The direction you press will determine what kind of special move you do.

You have four special moves depending on the direction you pick: neutral, up, sideways, and down.

B Button : Shield

This is in a kind of hard-to-press area, but the button for your shield is near your left index finger.

To dodge, hold down the B Button and press in a direction.

To grab, hold down the B Button and press the 2 Button.

To throw an item, hold down the B Button and press the 2 Button.

Using the – Button is the same as pressing B Button and 2 Button. Grab away!

A Button : Taunt

That’s all!

Right now, to grab a Smash Ball, you have to beat on it—not just touch it. Don’t forget!

Be the first to pummel it!

When you get a Smash Ball, try a standard special move. In other words, just press the button for your special move without a direction. You will then perform your Final Smash.

This is the same for all control schemes, so keep that in mind.

On October 18 at the E for All (Entertainment For All Expo) in Los Angeles, people will be able to play Brawl. And (perhaps boldly), it will be available for play with the Wii Remote. Is that really going to be OK?

No need for concern—I bet you can play it quite smoothly and simply...maybe. How about a little mental training before the time comes when you actually control it?

I'm a tiny bit interested in trying to play with the Wiimote. I just don't like the idea of having to use the minus button to grab in the middle of a heated battle. That's a tiny button way out in the middle of the controller. I know you can use B and the 2 button to grab as well but the B button worries me a bit too.

I will give it a shot for sure. I'm curious what people think of playing it that way at E for All this weekend. I look forward to hearing about it.

^^ You Stole My Thunder!! NOOO lol.

10-18-07 Sorry Im to lazy to do pics

Once there was a legendary man. He knocked heavyweight boxers many times his own size to the mat en route to a W.V.B.A. title.

Little Mac appears from Punch Out!

I can do it! I’m the one!

... But isn’t he a little small?

Don’t take him too lightly just because he’s small. There’s an authentic fighter in him.

A fierce dash!

One! Two! Powerful jabs!

And his special move is his uppercut!

Resurrecting this legend for the current generation is something we can all enjoy just a bit. He is an Assist Trophy.

A true Megaton
10-29-07

Stage Creator

You can create your own stages this time?! No way. REALLY?! With a feature like that, won’t I be able to play this game forever?!

http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/4418/55272374ko0.jpg
Apparently it’s true...!!!

Those who enjoy a little effort may be able to enjoy this stage builder for the rest of their lives.

http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/6288/91502140rk7.jpg
First, start from the initialize setting.

You start by choosing the size of the stage, the background pattern, and the music that will play. Oops! Sorry. For music, you’ll only be able to choose from the songs you have available.

http://img207.imageshack.us/img207/3580/97951571eh9.jpg
This is the edit screen!

Basically, you choose parts from the palette on the side and place them in the field.

The controls vary by controller, but each one can do the following:

Flip parts left to right
Enlarge or shrink parts
Zoom in or out on the screen
Swap palettes
Erase
...Among other things.

http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/4223/72000313mh9.jpg
Just place terrain however you like. Chuckity-chuckity-CHUCK!

http://img207.imageshack.us/img207/7397/92759667gf3.jpg
Then try it out!

Modify it and try it... Repeat as necessary. Make your own ideal stage!

http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/9720/55648528cy5.jpg
Mmm... That’s amazing.

http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/474/99060172cj0.jpg
And you can save a name and a comment for the stage.

You can change the music on the save screen. Choose something that matches the mood of your stage.

And I’m happy that this is compatible with SD cards. You don’t have to worry about size, so make as many stages as you like.

Also, if you’ve finished registering someone as both a Wii Friend and a Smash friend, you’ll be able to send custom stages to each other.

Now, for those who hate putting effort into such things, we’ve also prepared something you can enjoy as well.

http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/8058/31344466fl7.jpg
"Submit" ...?

That’s right! You can use your Wi-Fi connection to send stages you’ve made to Nintendo! (However, you can’t submit repeatedly. Maybe just once per day?)

And a stage selected from the entire daily collection will be sent from Nintendo to your Wii. A stage made by someone else will come to you over the Internet once per day!

DUN DUN DUNNNNNN! That’s the shocking truth. This means you’ll be able to experience a new stage every day—the flavor of the day, if you will. However, the plan is for that stage to vanish once one day has passed. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime encounter.

You can submit in both the Snapshots mode and the Stage Builder mode, allowing everyone to enjoy the creations of others. The fun of sharing is one of the ways that I wanted to take advantage of Wi-Fi for something other than pure battling.

Today’s stage has lots of traps...

This is our ideal current plan. We still don’t know the exact service period. And future tuning may result in changes to the spec.

But for now, please look forward to it!

My God, this is the first time I've actually been excited about an in-game editor.

I'll draw up plans immediately for the most awesomenest stage that ever was awesome!

Do we know if we can insert our own mp3's for BGM to our stages? Or do we have to use music right from the Brawl disc?

Mikey

im not sure, but it would be too awesome if we could insert our own music. Dont get your hopes up, but who knows they just keep surprising me with this game.

The Summit

The summit? The summit of what? If you must know, I suppose it’s the summit of Icicle Mountain. And I guess there are vegetables there after all.

In other words, it’s an Ice Climber stage.

At first glance, it appears to be a normal glacial peak. But after you fight for a while...

Three Different Taunts

If you want to show your opponent a little flair, you can do moves unrelated to battle—it’s called taunting. You do it with the +Control Pad, except when using the Wii Remote and Nunchuk.

This time, you do one of three different taunts, depending on the direction you press the +Control Pad!

Link:
-Up taunt: He twirls his sword twice and sheaths it.
-Side taunt: Oh. A fairy.
-Down taunt: Is this his mysterious pose from the Nintendo 64 version?!

There are a variety of patterns for you to enjoy.

Mario takes off his hat and spins around whimsically.

Samus(Zero Suit) curls herself in some sort of new stretch.

Fox gives a shout on the spot.

Wario gives a three-fingered "W" salute.

Ike thrusts his sword in the ground and crosses his arms.

Sonic spins his feet and says "Too slow..."

Snake...hides under a box...

With Wii Remote + Nunchuk control, taunts are handled with the 1 Button (up taunt), the 2 Button (down taunt) and the 1 and 2 Buttons simultaneously (side taunt).

Oh, and a short message can be assigned to each taunt direction.

Handicap

Be kind to beginners! If all you do in brawls is beat up people who don’t know left from right, they’ll never understand the rules of the game, right?

So until now, I’ve always made sure to include handicaps in each game in the series.

But, I began to think that there isn’t much thrill in just making yourself weaker, so I changed the system.

You start with your initial damage meter boosted, even when you reappear.

The strength of each character doesn’t change, so then you can show your skills to your opponent!

Also, you can use this not only for handicapping, but also for starting all players at the same damage—it’ll give you matches with a slightly different feel.

Now, I’ve also kept the auto-handicap feature. This gradually increases the starting damage for the winner of the match.

Choose the Auto setting from the same option.

Spectator

Even among Smash players, there are some people who just aren’t that good at action games. With that in mind, I’ve been thinking about how I can convey the fun of Smash to newcomers. I’ve been thinking about this type of thing since long before I joined this industry.

So, for this game, I’ve prepared a new kind of mode. It’s called Spectator, and you’ll find it in the With Anyone menu. If I had to describe it in a word, it’s "watching!"

http://img521.imageshack.us/img521/1922/17087374lh0.jpg

You can enjoy watching matches between other people!

This mode is a service where Nintendo uses Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection to send the data for games played between other people to every Smash household.

Match selection is handled automatically, and absolutely no names of any players can be seen. It feels like there’s a continuous broadcast of matches on your television! Even if you don’t play, you can enjoy the battles of other characters!

And at the beginning of each match, you can even bet coins on the character you think will win.

http://img521.imageshack.us/img521/7052/93908249mh5.jpg

I’ll bet some coins. I’ve got a winner!

Glean what hints you can from the stages and combatants and try to deduce the winner.

Of course, if your pick wins, your coin count will increase! And the more players in a match, the higher the payout. There may even be extra prizes.

http://img225.imageshack.us/img225/1604/98480854ej4.jpg

Even if you lose, you can get some stickers.

Just to make sure there’s no mistaking that just watching a match can be fun, we’ll be passing out stickers left and right.

For those of you who want to cooperate with our data collection for Spectator mode, set Allow Spectators to Yes in your Wi-Fi Options. This will result in your play data occasionally being sent to Nintendo.

http://img521.imageshack.us/img521/3315/28639500zr1.jpg

This setting is in your Wi-Fi Options.

The content that is broadcast is the same for everyone spectating (if your connection timing is the same), so it should be fun to have people in different environments watch and cheer the same match.

To be shocked by impressive play, or to bust a gut laughing at some accident will be quite fun! Perhaps you can use it as reference for your own matches.

Hopefully this mode is something that even people who aren’t good at games can enjoy.

Just to summarize this week we had these updates:

-Smart Bomb-This fearsome item practically covers entire stages in a massive, engulfing explosion. It’s best to try to use it in a spot that leaves few places for enemies to flee. Or something like that.

-Costume Colors-This is one of the many joys of Smash. This time, each character has about six different color variations.

-Saki Amamiya (Assist Trophy)-Saki Amamiya appears from Sin & Punishment: Successor to the Earth! This title is currently available via the Virtual Console.

-Charged Special Moves-These moves can be charged up by holding down the special-move button, increasing both speed and power. If you press the button down firmly and then release, you’ll unleash the move at full strength! When you first try out a character you aren’t familiar with, this should be the first thing you try.

-Lucas:Final Smash-Lucas’s Final Smash is PK Starstorm! It’s a move in which he unleashes a rapid barrage of meteorlike PSI power.

BTW, I am predicting a big update on Monday, so be sure to check that out.

Controls

If you use the Controls function under Options, you can assign controls to any button configuration you like.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamemode/various/images/various14/various14_071126a.jpg

First, input a name.

What’s important to know is that button configurations must be tied to a specific name. Once you do that, any time you choose that name afterward, you’ll automatically play with the button settings you chose.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamemode/various/images/various14/various14_071126b.jpg

One name can handle controls for four controllers.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamemode/various/images/various14/various14_071126c.jpg

Even a GameCube Controller!

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamemode/various/images/various14/various14_071126d.jpg

Even an NES-style Wii Remote!

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamemode/various/images/various14/various14_071126e.jpg

Even a Classic Controller!

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamemode/various/images/various14/various14_071126f.jpg

Even the Nunchuk!

...Huh? What’s that thing that says "Shake Smash" under Nunchuk?

With this function, you just shake the Wii Remote to do a Smash Attack in the direction you shook it. It’s a little bonus we added.

Also, if you turn Tap Jump off, you can cut the jump function out of the up direction on the Control Stick. This means it’s easier to do an up attack without jumping into the air. Use whichever way you prefer.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamemode/various/images/various14/various14_071126g.jpg

Then try it out!

Do it to your heart’s content. Try to find the perfect button combination!

But, if you decide to play Smash at a friend’s house, your button configuration naturally won’t be there. And trying to set it up all over again is sort of a pain.

I didn’t miss this detail, though.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamemode/various/images/various14/various14_071126h.jpg

Press the + Button on the name list to open the menu.

When the menu screen pops up, press and hold both the 1 Button and the 2 Button. After a moment, your name will be saved to the Wii Remote. Of course, you can expect your control settings to carry over along with your name!

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamemode/various/images/various14/various14_071126i.jpg

Button settings are transferred by way of the Wii Remote.

Pack your name into your Wii Remote and transfer it the Wii at your friend’s house. Then choose that name to play with your button configuration.

Wow. I hate to say it, but we really have thought of everything.

Ento

Widescreen Support

This title, like most Wii titles, supports widescreen display. In other words, you can enjoy the game with full display across televisions with wider screens, too.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamemode/various/images/various15/various15_071127a.jpg
This is standard display.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamemode/various/images/various15/various15_071127b.jpg
This is widescreen display.

The border off the screen that cues a KO is the same for both. Choose the display mode that matches the TV you have at home.

But some people may not know if they have a normal TV or widescreen TV, and may not even know what difficult terminology like 4:3 or 16:9 means. Right? Who knows all that stuff?

So, all you have to do is check the circle that appears in the background on the screen where you choose your display setting.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamemode/various/images/various15/various15_071127c.jpg
This is the correct standard ratio.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamemode/various/images/various15/various15_071127d.jpg
This is the correct widescreen ratio.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamemode/various/images/various15/various15_071127e.jpg

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamemode/various/images/various15/various15_071127f.jpg
The two shots above... Wrong.

Being able to just look at the image and know if you got your settings right is pretty huge, huh?

Ah, yes. If your television has screen-size settings called Wide and Full, set your TV to Full. If you choose Wide, there is a chance the image may be shifted toward the center of the screen.

(Is this the right way to do it?)

It’s the return of Events! This is a single-player mode in which you battle through predetermined situations.

This is the Events selection screen.

For these, a harder setting is probably more exciting, but you can go ahead and set it however you like.

For example, you’ll find these kinds of situations:

Character: Mario
Bowser and King Dedede battle as a team!

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamemode/various/images/various16/various16_071129f.jpg
Character: Yoshi
Using Yoshi’s Egg Lay standard special move,
put both enemies inside eggs simultaneously!

Dark Link Duel
http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamemode/various/images/various16/various16_071129g.jpg
Character: Link
It’s a fated battle with your own shadow.
This is a stamina based match.

High scores are recorded for each challenge at each difficulty level. You don’t just clear these challenges—competing for time will magnify the fun.

Enjoy Smash’s chance meetings between a variety of characters!

We’ve tried to create an exact replica, but there may be a few areas that differ from the last game. I hope you understand.

In general, the Melee stages have the same background music as in the last game, but we’ve also prepared some tracks like this.

"Zelda II: Adventure of Link: Great Temple/Temple" (0:54)

(And then there's a song, which I bring over.)

It's called "double posting". It's a new feature available on all forum sites worth anything, and everyone who matters has utilized the feature at least once.

That was a seriously amazing update. My friend loves that level, and this is probably a game seller for him.

That stage is very simple: You just lower them down to that bottom little circle thing and then just grab them and throw them off the edge. Works almost every time.

Friend List

The Wii includes a function called Wii Friends, but you will register a separate list of Smash friends.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamemode/wi-fi/images/wi-fi03/wi-fi03_071203a.jpg
That’s your Friend Code in the top right.

Please exchange these numbers with your friends. Write a note, do it over the phone, or send it by e-mail – just share your numbers with each other.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamemode/wi-fi/images/wi-fi03/wi-fi03_071203b.jpg
Then input your friend’s Friend Code.

Once you’ve both input your codes, it looks something like this.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamemode/wi-fi/images/wi-fi03/wi-fi03_071203c.jpg
Oh! It comes with comments.

You can enter your own icon and comments.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamemode/wi-fi/images/wi-fi03/wi-fi03_071203d.jpg
This is where you enter your short taunt messages.

The preparation ends there. After this, you won’t have to do it every time.

So, let’s play a game! In that case, someone has to enter someone else’s game.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamemode/wi-fi/images/wi-fi03/wi-fi03_071203e.jpg
The person who will host creates a room.

Everyone can see the status of people on their Friend Roster.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamemode/wi-fi/images/wi-fi03/wi-fi03_071203f.jpg
You can see if they’re online or hosting a match.

If you want to play together, just select that person’s name and choose OK!

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamemode/wi-fi/images/wi-fi03/wi-fi03_071203g.jpg
Join someone who is hosting a match.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamemode/wi-fi/images/wi-fi03/wi-fi03_071203h.jpg
Once all participants select OK...

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamemode/wi-fi/images/wi-fi03/wi-fi03_071203i.jpg
You can play.

Yep. Simple.

Simple is best.

By the way, the circle at the top right of your Friend Roster approximates the connection quality of your last connection. The closer it is to blue, the smoother you’ll be able to play.

Returning Pokémon

If you haven’t played the last game or the one before that, you may be left wondering something like, "Why isn’t this Pokémon or that Pokémon in the game?" All I’ve been introducing are the ones new to this game.

So now I’d like to introduce several of the Pokémon that appeared in past installments that will be appearing again in Brawl.

The Battle for the Smash Ball

A Smash Ball appears! The tension rises. Since it gives you an attack as powerful as the name Final Smash implies, everyone will battle to the death to get it.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/howto/technique/images/technique09/technique09_071205a.jpg
There it is! Get it! Get it!

You can’t get the Smash Ball by simply touching it. You have to bash it and smash it many times until the player who breaks the Smash Ball gets it.

The Smash Ball’s endurance diminishes with each hit and with time.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/howto/technique/images/technique09/technique09_071205b.jpg
How should you pursue it? Even this becomes a battle.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/howto/technique/images/technique09/technique09_071205c.jpg
Yes! I got it!

Once a character gets it and begins glowing on standby, he or she just does a standard special move to unleash the Final Smash. Just press the B Button without any directional input.

It depends on the particular Final Smash, but simply pressing the button at a random time or place might not work to your advantage.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/howto/technique/images/technique09/technique09_071205d.jpg
Some can be dodged fairly well...

So pick a position that your move will strike from. Or create conditions under which you will definitely hit your foes. Do all of this while glowing on standby.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/howto/technique/images/technique09/technique09_071205e.jpg
Now just jump up and fire off that Final Smash!

However, if the character on standby gets hit, he or she may fumble the Smash Ball!

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/howto/technique/images/technique09/technique09_071205f.jpg
Even if someone has it,
all it takes is some aggressive offense...!

Do you use it as soon as you get it? Or save it for later? Do you run from an enemy who got it? Or do you chase him? You’ll need instant situational decision-making!

And then there’s an element known as the Pity Final Smash. Once a significant point advantage is reached, the losing player is given a bonus chance. When you get this, you will reappear after a KO in Final Smash standby mode.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/howto/technique/images/technique09/technique09_071205g.jpg
It’s OK to give this out, isn’t it?

Now, if you don’t want to use Final Smashes whatsoever, you can restrict the appearance of this item in the Item Switch. If you just turn Smash Balls off, you’ll be set.

The game-changing Final Smash. Using it is fun. Running from it is fun, too.

Okay, too lazy to post pictures:

Rotation
Game Modes

Picture five or more players huddled around a Wii.

The number of people who can play is limited by the number of controllers that can connect. When that happens, you usually have the people who win or lose rotate out so that everyone gets a turn, right?

So be nice and give everybody a chance to play!

... ...That’s how I feel anyway, but just in case you need a little help being nice (and since everyone has their own controller preferences), I went ahead and rigged up a Rotation mode.

First decide the number of controllers.

Then get a count of people in the room with you
and enter that in.

You can set the rules to rotate out a set number of winners or losers from the brawl. Rotation doesn’t have to be about coming in first place.

If your group is on pretty equal footing with each other, go for Loser Swaps Out. If you’ve got some green players in your midst, why not start out with Winner Swaps Out?

It’s always useful to log your name.

But, hey, if putting in a name is too much of a bother for you, you can play fine without it. Just as long as you remember your guest number, that is.

If a new player happens to come by during a Rotation match, you can add him or her to the group if you’re willing to head back to the name-entry screen.

When your name comes up, hit a confirmation button.

Press a confirmation button on the controller of your choice when your name pops up. That sets the controller you’ll use.

And of course, your control settings will be applied to your control when you play.

Need a bathroom break? Opt to sit out a match!

Even with numerous controllers and dozens of people lined up to play, you’ll be good to go if you use this mode!

... ... Well, not quite.

Rotation is limited to 16 players. Mm hmm.

how the hell can you use the wiimote on a game like this?

Don't get me wrong, i'm seriously psyched for this game... but i cant see how individual characters could have special moves with such limited combinations of buttons and movements. I guess it doesn't matter since i'll be picking iy up on the 1st day of release anyway.

Yeah the wiimote controls may suck on this but you can use all 3 controllers, personally i think the gamecube controller will be the best method of control for this game. Also i hope they put more characters in then they have so far because they mostly all look crap :P .

He dashes at foes...

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/items/assist/images/assist14/assist14_071214d.jpg
He stomps on whoever he currently despises!

Characters that suffer his stomping get embedded in the dirt.

Waluigi keeps on stomping, punishing his foe persistently with successive blows. As should be expected from Waluigi.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/items/assist/images/assist14/assist14_071214e.jpg
He finishes with a mighty kick...

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/items/assist/images/assist14/assist14_071214f.jpg

This item has absolutely no relevance for those who normally just play free-for-all brawls. But not knowing how to use the item would be problematic, so I’ll just explain it.
http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/items/images/item13/item13_071219b.jpg

You might be able to imagine what it is from its name...

Before I get ahead of myself, I must explain that this game features a Team Battle mode.

For example, this function allows people to break into teams of two and do battle when four people are playing.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/items/images/item13/item13_071219c.jpg

There are three team colours: red, green and blue.

And the Team Healer has absolutely no function if you’re on your own.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/items/images/item13/item13_071219d.jpg

If you pick it up, you just hold it. It doesn’t do anything.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/items/images/item13/item13_071219e.jpg

But, if you throw it at your ally...

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/items/images/item13/item13_071219f.jpg

...your ally’s damage meter gets replenished!

The higher your damage meter, the more you recover.

But, if you don’t alert each other, you may not hit your team-mate.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/items/images/item13/item13_071219g.jpg

And occasionally,
it may cause an opponent to recover damage instead...
(oh yh ive got it right and all the pictures show up ill try to post the updates whenever i can, as long as you guys dont mind:) )

Let's bring this up-to-date, shall we?

Coin Launcher

In the last game, you plopped the coins you collected into a prize-dispensing machine for a chance to get trophies. That was fine and all, but I got to thinking that there really wasn’t any strategy involved.

So this time, I dropped it. Instead, you’ll be getting your trophies in THIS kind of game!

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamemode/various/images/various20/various20_071227a.jpg
I’m gonna have you play every inch of this game!

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamemode/various/images/various20/various20_071227b.jpg
That option on the right is the entrance to the Coin Launcher.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamemode/various/images/various20/various20_071227c.jpg
That thing down below is the launcher.

Tilt left and right to change the angle of the launcher and press the button to roll coins out. Basically, the coins themselves are your bullets.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamemode/various/images/various20/various20_071227d.jpg
Firefirefirefire. FIRE!

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamemode/various/images/various20/various20_071227e.jpg
And you got it!

The trophies move, so shoot, shoot, shoot them before they get away. If you hit a trophy with a few shots, it will be yours.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamemode/various/images/various20/various20_071227f.jpg
An enemy formation has appeared!

When you defeat formations of smaller enemies, you earn stickers and bonuses. When your green gauge fills up, it becomes possible to shoot coins rapid-fire for a short time.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamemode/various/images/various20/various20_071227g.jpg
A missile appeared!

Hit the missiles to shoot them down. If a missile strikes, your coin count willdecrease!

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamemode/various/images/various20/various20_071227h.jpg
Whaaaaaaa!

Press the Cancel Button to quit. Then the results of your trophy and sticker shooting will appear.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamemode/various/images/various20/various20_071227i.jpg
The green ones are trophies. The red ones are stickers.

The more you play the other modes, the more coins you’ll earn for the Coin Launcher. You can even earn them in Spectator mode.

When you want even more coins, inviting friends over is your best option. The more people you play with, the more coins you’ll earn.

It is said that if you collect all three parts, you will complete the legendary Air Ride machine...

It’s broken into three parts:
Dragoon Part A, the nose cone...
Dragoon Part B, the hull...
and Dragoon Part C, the tail.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/items/images/item14/item14_071228d.jpg

Gather all three and the Dragoon is formed!

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/items/images/item14/item14_071228e.jpg

Target in sight!

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/items/images/item14/item14_071228f.jpg

FIRE!!!

Of course, given the amount of preparation required, it boasts tremendous firepower! If it strikes you, consider it a one-hit KO.

The battle for this item is hot.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/items/images/item14/item14_071228g.jpg

When you get one of the Dragoon parts, these icons appear!

Hit an opponent who has one of the Dragoon parts to make them drop it. You also drop the parts when you lose a life. If you want to get a part in hand, then beat up your opponent!

The same can be said for Smash Balls – those, too, are items that everyone really wants badly, so the scramble can be quite funny!

The joy of finally getting all three. Your enemies doing whatever they can to flee. It’s like we’ve added a delicious new spice, so I hope you’ll enjoy it during multiplayer matches.

Things that have "Download" written on them were sent by Nintendo.

Now, downloaded data from Nintendo will gradually be overwritten, so there’s no need to worry about your Wii console’s memory running out.

Now, since this data comes from your friends, this is where you have to watch your remaining save memory! If the remaining free space on your Wii System Memory is running low, you won’t be able to receive the data. Move old data to an SD card or erase it.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/gamemode/wi-fi/images/wi-fi05/wi-fi05_071228j.jpg

You can also send data to multiple friends at once.

It’s difficult to put the joy of being able to exchange snapshots and stages into words. I certainly hope you will all enjoy it.

Melee Stages: Part 2

There was already an entry detailing how we’ve brought back some of the stages from Super Smash Bros. Melee...

So here are some more stages that can also be played in Super Smash Bros. Brawl!

Yoshi’s Island
http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/stages/images/stage21/stage21_080107a.jpg
The steep slopes on either side are its defining characteristic.
http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/stages/images/stage21/stage21_080107b.jpg
That central platform screams "accident!"

Corneria
http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/stages/images/stage21/stage21_080107c.jpg
Battle atop the Great Fox!
http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/stages/images/stage21/stage21_080107d.jpg
Of course, Arwings come flying in, too.

Onett
http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/stages/images/stage21/stage21_080107e.jpg
The offensive and defensive struggles on the buildings of Onett
return!
http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/stages/images/stage21/stage21_080107f.jpg
Whoa, whoa, whoa! Watch out for cars.

Brinstar
http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/stages/images/stage21/stage21_080107g.jpg
It’s the dreaded, legendary ocean of acid!
http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/stages/images/stage21/stage21_080107h.jpg
The rising and falling ocean of acid changes the field of play greatly.

Rainbow Ride
http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/stages/images/stage21/stage21_080107i.jpg
Tour the course in this forced scrolling stage.
http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/stages/images/stage21/stage21_080107j.jpg
The boat sinks mid-trip and you embark on a roundabout tour!

This is amazing! Is this a lavish feast or what? I can tell you that for everyone working on this game, the amount of content has been surprising to say the least.

STADIUM: Multi-Man Brawl

Dive into a ruthless battle with an army of enemy pawns: the Multi-Man Brawl!

Multi-Man Brawl hosts a wealth of different brawls, including the widely recognized 100-man Brawl.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamemode/various/images/various21/various21_080108a.jpg
This is the Multi-Man Brawl menu.

Speaking of the Multi-Man Brawl, what could the enemy team of fighters be this time around? It’s the Fighting Alloy Team!

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamemode/various/images/various21/various21_080108b.jpg
Red Alloy! He’s not the leader or anything!

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamemode/various/images/various21/various21_080108c.jpg
Blue Alloy! For some reason she seems kind of gentle.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamemode/various/images/various21/various21_080108d.jpg
Yellow Alloy! Those horns are scintillating!

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamemode/various/images/various21/various21_080108e.jpg
Green Alloy! It may look like Kirby, but it’s not him!

If it’s a 100-Man Brawl, then you continue fighting until you’ve beaten 100 of them. Destroying so many really cleanses the spirit.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamemode/various/images/various21/various21_080108f.jpg
Just keep launching them!

This time, we’ve added a much desired mode...

Two-player Multi-Man Brawls!

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamemode/various/images/various21/various21_080108g.jpg
Amazing! Co-op play?!

With two of you watching each other’s backs, it’s that much more fun. But that’s not all!

There’s a mode for playing with a friend over Nintendo WFC!

We’ve included online Team Multi-Man Brawl!

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamemode/various/images/various21/various21_080108h.jpg
This is the With Friends menu.

Don’t you want to cooperate sometimes instead of just fight? That’s what this is for.

Snake: Final Smash

<Grenade Launcher>

Snake’s Final Smash is the Grenade Launcher.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/characters/images/snake/snake_080110a.jpg
What is he calling in...?

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/characters/images/snake/snake_080110b.jpg
Suddenly he does a great jump!

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/characters/images/snake/snake_080110c.jpg
Choppa-choppa-choppa!

Snake grabs the rope ladder the helicopter drops and takes out his grenade launcher!

So, the thing to do is shoot, right?

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/characters/images/snake/snake_080110d.jpg
Poom! Poom! Poom!

You control the targeting reticule and press the attack button to fire grenades one at a time. There are six rounds, and when you run out...

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/characters/images/snake/snake_080110e.jpg
He loads a new clip? How can that be?

It ends when you shoot 12 rounds or run out of time. Snake then climbs back up to return to battle.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/characters/images/snake/snake_080110f.jpg
Yep. He makes his exit.

It’s probably better to just shoot all your rounds rather than run out of time leaving ammo behind...but if you just shoot indiscriminately, your shots may be dodged.

When there are two or more enemies, it might be a good idea to hit one as he is being attacked by the other, or something along those lines.

Challenges

Trophies, stickers, music...

Super Smash Bros. Brawl certainly has its share of "rewards" for you to collect. Among them all are several for which I’ve set certain appearance conditions.

So, to help you manage these performance-based rewards, I’ve created the Challenges mode. This mode gives you hints about what you need to do to unlock these items!

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamemode/various/images/various22/various22_080114a.jpg
This is the Challenges screen.

It’s totally empty. I’d say that if anyone saw this empty screen in-game, it would be an extremely rare occurrence.

Each one of these windows has some condition or another that will unlock it.

When you meet a set of conditions while playing through the game, that window will automatically break open.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamemode/various/images/various22/various22_080114b.jpg
KSSSSHHH! Then you get what’s inside!

If there’s a CD inside, you can listen to that CD on the spot.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamemode/various/images/various22/various22_080114c.jpg
Hmmm... Nice.

When a window breaks, you see a red silhouette of the windows on either side. When you align the cursor with these windows, you can see the conditions for breaking them open, too.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamemode/various/images/various22/various22_080114d.jpg
As you can see...

...

Use this to take on challenge after challenge so you can earn more, more, MORE prizes! It’s much easier to get excited about it when you know what you have to do.

By the way, you can use as many Golden Hammers as there are down below.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamemode/various/images/various22/various22_080114e.jpg
Even windows that aren’t open...

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamemode/various/images/various22/various22_080114f.jpg
Can be broken open with a little force!

But use the hammers at your own discretion. Once used, a hammer will never return. You’ll want to save them for challenges you just can’t seem to overcome.

Oh, but you should also know that there are some windows even a trusty Golden Hammer won’t break.

And be careful of friends who might egg you on. I mean, imagine you have a hammer, some pristine glass, and a friend who just keeps telling you to break the glass...

It makes you want to break it, huh?

I have been addicted to the previous two Super Smash Bros. games, and then I moved on to the Xbox 360, where I never touched a Smash Bros. game again.

Right now, even if it's later than most people, I have started to get into the mindset to go back into the game. Yes, I have been following the Smash Dojo news flow for a while, but now that it's almost here, it finally hit me:

I'm going to be playing it in less than a month!

So yeah, I'm back and as psyched as I was two days before running out and getting the previous edition of the game.

Pikmin & Olimar: Final Smash

<End of Day>

Captain Olimar always makes sure to return to his spaceship before nightfall when he’s out exploring new planets. Why is that?

That’s because nighttime on these planets is absolutely teeming with scaaary wild beasts! To avoid an encounter with those creatures, Olimar takes to the safety of space during the night.

So how could we represent this idea in Brawl...?

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/characters/images/pikmin/pikmin_080117a.jpg

First things first. Get that Smash Ball!

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/characters/images/pikmin/pikmin_080117b.jpg

There’s Olimar’s ship!

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/characters/images/pikmin/pikmin_080117c.jpg

Blast off! The ship soars higher and higher into the stratosphere.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/characters/images/pikmin/pikmin_080117d.jpg

Stars fill the sky above.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/characters/images/pikmin/pikmin_080117e.jpg

Wild beasts everywhere! Aaaah!

Characters left behind on the ground take lots and lots of damage.

But dishing out damage alone won’t score you points. The more people in the brawl, the more damage you can expect this attack to do, but beware—another opponent may steal the KO you’ve worked so hard to set up.

In a one-on-one match, this Final Smash won’t deal as much damage, but hey, there’s no worry that someone else will steal your KO, either.

I guess you could call this balancing the gameplay, huh?

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/characters/images/pikmin/pikmin_080117f.jpg

The ship comes crashing back to the battlefield
with a huge explosion! Maybe, if you’re lucky,
you’ll catch someone in the blast?

Not too shabby for a pipsqueak, eh?

Think...You see a new character you dont know much about. Pit maybe? So you go to the Masterpeice section and play Kid Icarus. You learn that the game is pretty good and then go download it on the VC. Here are the pros and cons of this new feature.

Pros:
-Demo of VC games
-Free
-No Download
-More value to Brawl.
-No wasting money on terrible VC games

Cons:
-Time limit (Thats the only one I can think of)

THAT's what I'm talking about. Why set a time limit on the game? I think that it's complete crap to ship a game with a TIMED demo. I mean, I'd be all for it if we got even the first level of each game with an unlimited amount of time to play it. As it is, however, I'm not too happy with Brawl right now.
