View Full Version : Help me make people sponsor me!
egg651 09-07-2008, 01:07 PM Hi there,
I'd love to participate in the gaming marathon, but my friends refuse to sponsor me!
They just say that they won't sponsor me for doing something I enjoy!
Please help me pout by telling them that it's for a good cause, and that it's a good idea.
If I get enough people to tell them, then they'll have to listen to me!
Thanks!
Grantly 09-07-2008, 01:11 PM I'm having the same problem.
sayaintjimmy 09-07-2008, 01:14 PM or course they should sponser you
DontEatTheYellowSnow 09-07-2008, 01:16 PM Im having the same problem too! Lonos getting all the money!
viatrophy 09-07-2008, 01:28 PM mm.. the reason they should sponsor you is because its about cancer?
Run one lap around the block after every hour of gaming, that might help. Good for you too.
Fearless987 09-07-2008, 01:49 PM Yeah I need some sponsors too.
Yeah people should sponsor you.
Masselli18 09-07-2008, 01:51 PM yes they should sponsor you.
zinc136 09-07-2008, 01:54 PM Who said no?

Yes, but they want to sponsor me for doing something that's hard work physically (as in running or cycling) or hard work mentally (eg. sponsored silence, or how many maths problems can you do in 10 minutes). I know that gaming (especially for 24 hours) is both of these, but they don't see that, as they are non gamers.

I'd quite like to know that too......:undecided:
Gaminghalb 09-07-2008, 02:35 PM I would ask them what it will take to sponser you and then do whatever they want so you can help this cause.
DontEatTheYellowSnow 09-07-2008, 05:39 PM i have the same problem, i really want to help those kids but if i dont get any sponsers then im just gaming for the sake of gaming
virtu0so 09-07-2008, 06:25 PM Why wouldn't you wanna sponsor Egg?
After all, he possesses the power of the Dark Side!
And Cookies!
Hungry Luma 09-07-2008, 07:44 PM Make sure you really tell your friends that they are helping some kids that are in need.
Gir15 09-07-2008, 11:05 PM It's for helping Cancer! It's worth it! I wanna help but I only have a ps2 and a crappy PC so I would get bored pretty quickly, I'm gonna talk to my friend who has a 360 and some good games and see if he wants to do it also!
Saccia 09-08-2008, 05:44 PM I keep hitting the same wall. My wife and Mom said the exact same thing. They don't see why I should do something I enjoy although honestly after 24 hours I'll be sick of doing it. They think running makes sense because it's not fun. But I know runners. People who actually run and bike doing it BECAUSE THEY ENJOY IT. Others who are not runners couldn't possibly imagine it being fun... hell I wouldn't call it fun.... but runners do call it fun.... some say relaxing.
It's just a wall of BS about gaming. Maybe this event can help change some minds. Hell, anyone can walk or run around in a large ellipse many times with enough effort.... not sure how many of those same people could actually pick up a PS3 or Xbox360 controller and not fumble then quit.
bc specialist 09-08-2008, 06:06 PM who said no to this, I WANT TO KNOW NOW, I have had a family member of mine almost died because of cancer, cancer is a serious problem. Not only did Victoria died, many other people dye every year because of this. To whoever said no, I hate you and you're dead to me.

Tell em you'll walk around the block every 3 hours
I am having some problems with sponsors too.
I have a link to my page in all of my forum signatures and am planning on emailing my teachers and asking them if they want to pitch in a dollar or two.
Takeo Rey 09-08-2008, 10:56 PM Hey I'm a runner and I enjoy running! Can't do much because I'm hurt but I do miss running a lot. I would run at least 15 miles a week and have a nine mile run every Wednesday, that is until summer began and it too hot to run outside.
Believe me, it is hard to get sponsor sometimes. When I was raising money for my half marathon run last year, I did everything. Email everyone, call up people, call up favors sometimes, IM everyone on my list, make business cards; it was tough and I managed to get $2000. But trust me, you will find those few that will loosen up the purse strings and wallets and be sure to thank them the most.
My biggest concern now is that I thought that my friends would join me in just collecting as a team and throw a big gaming night, but I might be going alone on this one.
You do learn a lot about people through things like this, but you also understand why we do need to help out when the community asks for it, especially for a charity Doc and the others truly believe in. Stay positive.
NuclearNinja 09-09-2008, 07:59 AM Yeah I have the same problem, how should I get people to sponser me? I guess I'll ask my teachers and reletives.
Saccia 09-09-2008, 11:57 AM Well, one response that I've been giving people that has gotten some positive traction is this:
"Extra Life is about getting a new group of people involved in helping fight pediatric cancer. There are plenty of "walk-a-thons" and "run-a-thons" and honestly many who consider themselves "gamers" might not participate in that because it doesn't interest them. Extra Life is about going to a completely different group of people and asking them to help out and do what they do enjoy at the same time. This means overall we have increased the number of people helping out. We've got "walk-a-thons", "run-a-thons", and now "game-a-thons". I don't see anything bad here."
poeticsoul44 09-10-2008, 10:22 AM I don't think it could be put any better. Nice. I am trying anyone and everyone I can to sponser me. I think this was a fantastic idea and I am glad I am a part of it. Sarcastic Gamer Rocks! End of Story.

Tell them that the hospital helps families from around the world, regardless of their ability to pay for treatment, etc.
Bloodlut 09-10-2008, 01:46 PM cheers will do!
