I generally ignore any racing game that doesn’t involve the delightful denizens of the Mushroom Kingdom. If I can’t hurl red shells at a princess-kidnapping dinosaur, then I tend to view the title with contempt and scoff at its existence. However, even I can’t resist the urge to travel outside of my comfort zone from time to time.
My first impression of Evolution Studios’ “MotorStorm” was similar to that of most games in the genre. Personally, I have never found driving in circles to be a fun or rewarding experience. However, after playing the demo, I became a believer.* The game was actually fun.
“MotorStorm: Pacific Rift,” the follow-up to Evolution Studios’ first PS3 title, is set to speed into North American retailers on October 7. The game will feature new vehicles, more features and gorgeous tropical settings. Three new gameplay videos from the off-road racing sequel have hit the Internet. Check them out below.
The first video showcases one of the new volcanic terrains in “Pacific Rift.” The sweltering temperatures of the setting make boost management even more critical, as the vehicles will be quite susceptible to overheating. Contrary to popular belief, cars can’t drive through lava. Do not even try. Based on the footage, it seems that hitting checkpoints is an effective way to cool your engine. Unfortunately, the addition of flames to a car seems to have no effect.

Aside from the previous location, off-road enthusiasts will be able to race on pristine beaches and through lush jungles. The second video features a new track, which is littered with vast vegetation and towering waterfalls. The presence of trees and brush will make navigating the course more difficult, but the availability of water should help keep your engine nice and cool. Also, the flames paint job is still awesome. If only it could have been slapped on the monster truck.
