View Full Version : In Honor of.... In memory of...
Please use this thread to share a few words about anyone you might be dedicating your efforts to.
In honor of the the living, or in memory of those past.
This thread will be HEAVILY moderated. Just make your post and let others make theirs. Thanks all.
Extra Life is dedicated in memory of Victoria Jo Enmon, a dear friend gone way too soon.
My efforts are in honor of Jordan Kurtz, a survivor and the sweetest little gal with more fire than anyone could imagine. (her pretty face is on the SG header right now)
I also hope to honor my Aunt Louise who has fought way too hard against way too much cancer in her life.
Finally a dedication to the kids who fight wars against things with very adult names.
For Tori.
caruso1268 09-09-2008, 06:40 PM I'd love to participate, but dad wont let me. I might donate to Lono's Extra Life campaign. Either way, if I were participating, I'd be playing in honor of my Great Grandma Caruso. She's had Alzheimer's since before I was born. Every time i went to see her in her retirement home, she had to be told that i was her great grandson. I never really got a chance to know her and she died February last year. She lived a long life, but I feel terrible that I never got to know her.
EDIT: Doc, if this is heavily moderated, how come you're double posting?
Lono_Lives 09-09-2008, 07:42 PM Lost my grandfather, Don Byrne on Sunday 9.7.08 to cancer.
I can't wait to raise so much freaking money that we spend cancer into oblivion.
TheBrain76 09-09-2008, 07:51 PM I'm playing in honor of my mother and in memory of my uncle John.
halokilla2008 09-09-2008, 09:45 PM Im trying to get sponsored and stuff and im tryign to do this for my dads cousins wife who has breast cancer and is fighting hard and for all kids fighting just as hard
Saccia 09-09-2008, 09:54 PM I'd like to dedicate my efforts to my grandmother and grandfather. I never knew my grandmother because she died of pancreatic cancer when I was only 6 months old. My grandfather passed away a few years ago from another aggressive type of cancer.
R0CK0 09-09-2008, 10:55 PM im dedicating everything i do in this to my father, who beat cancer 3 times over but lost his last battle when i was only 13 years old, and to my step-father, who only 3 months after marrying my mother, also lost his battle with cancer when i was just 17. ive seen every and all sides of this terrible disease, and ive never been prouder to be a part of an event like this, NEVER! i care for each and every one of you for taking part in this, real talk.
virtu0so 09-09-2008, 10:56 PM One of my good friends lost two of his neighbors to cancer. This one's for you guys!
ShortHairedOffender 09-09-2008, 11:35 PM My Great Grandfather I guess. Never met him.
motorhead36 09-10-2008, 03:01 AM I'm doing this for a lot of people.
First of all, I'm doing this for my grandmother, who I lost to cancer 6 years ago. I'm doing it for my grandpa who passed away when my mother was sixteen, He fought cancer for years. I'm doing this for my older cousin Tammy, who left behind both of her parents and her twin brother when she was only a baby. My efforts are going towards all of my grandparents brothers and sisters, and all of their husbands and wives, everyone who has passed away in the last 3 generations of my mothers family have gone to cancer, and I can finally make do something about it all and contribute to a charity for people I loved, by doing something I love.
Nightkiller93 09-10-2008, 02:54 PM My Grandmother who beat breast cancer over a year ago thankfully my grandmother is still going strong.
She is a real inspiration in my life and has helped me though alot of hard times, she's always there for me and i know i can rely on her whenever the need should arise.
I don't know how my mother would have coped if my grandmother had died so im really thankfull to the doctors.
bsf94 09-10-2008, 02:58 PM I'm doing this because my mom had cancer once, and my uncle had it 3 times. Thankfully they are both doing good now.
codespace 09-10-2008, 03:20 PM I'm doing this because I worked as a volunteer on the children's ward of a cancer center.
Fearless987 09-10-2008, 04:10 PM For someone I was in hospital with we both had the same type of cancer but I lived and she didn't:(!
LynnKurtz 09-10-2008, 04:28 PM  I am playing in honor of my daughter Jordan!
Jordan was diagnosed with AML (Leukemia) on July 12th, 2006. We were residents of Texas Children's Hospital with her from July 11th until December 15th. The good days were good, and the bad days were really bad. She is such a strong little girl. Even when she was feeling really crappy with her chemo treatments and their side effects, she would still give you a 'thumbs up' and say that she was fine. She is my hero and my inspiration. After 6 months of being totally Leukemia free, we found out on May 15, 2007 that her Leukemia was coming back. She had a bone marrow transplant on September 21st, 2007, and is doing great!
Together, we can all make a difference.

codinthepocket 09-10-2008, 04:51 PM If I am dedicating this to anyone, I will dedicate my time to my granddad.
He lost his fight to cancer, and lived to a prosperous 87...
He was a fantastic man who was always happy. He hated being called Harold though, so on Sundays, I used to let him use my name (Harry) and people would have to call me Harold. He loved that.
He used to play cards with me whenever I visited, and he was the one who taught me how to play snooker, 21, Pairs and darts.
Snooker is my one of my favourite pastimes, as well as darts, so he was a big influence in my life.
He was an enthusiastic man, and even though he died a few years ago, he is still remembered, but never in a bad way.
Here's to Harry the 1st!
DontEatTheYellowSnow 09-10-2008, 05:33 PM i am dedicating this in memory of both my grandfathers and my uncle billy who died when he was 12 years old
Kiljoy 09-10-2008, 05:41 PM I am doing this for my niece Sydnie, she was diagnosed with cancer and after fighting it for two years she passed away last year at the age of five.
Live4Him 09-10-2008, 07:56 PM I'm doing it for my sister Bernice first. She fought off breast cancer the first time a few years ago, but I was young then, and so I did not know much about it. Although, now that I am 14, the cancer is back, and she is going through chemo and everything, so I just pray that she gets better!
And also, my mom lost a very dear friend of hers to cancer, so this is for her too!
Paladin58 09-10-2008, 11:48 PM Well, I'm gonna go ahead and put my cousin Pat as the reason I'm doing this. Admittedly, I was too young to remember him much before he passed, but I can still remember his awesome nylon hat (think Fresh Prince of Bel Air) and cue-ball head, from the rad therapy he endured.
This is to you, Pat. I still have some of your Genesis games. They're great.
strika234 09-10-2008, 11:56 PM both my parents have battled (and won) against cancer.
nobody, especially a child should have to go through that.
ObsidianFire 09-11-2008, 07:01 PM I'm playing for my Gramps never got to see him because of stomach cancer. And my cousin who died the day before my birthday.
umanouski 09-12-2008, 12:45 PM in honor and memory of my cousin Micheal who was taken away at a very young age
TheWorldEndsWithMe 09-13-2008, 06:54 PM All my efforts are dedicated to my neighbor, Mike, who died earlier this past year from cancer.
SamFtw 09-15-2008, 04:54 PM For my Uncle.
Spoofmaniac 09-15-2008, 08:23 PM I am playing for my grandmother, Sharon.
r0per 09-16-2008, 12:46 PM I'm doing this for my Mom, Barbara. After being with her the last 6 months of her life, and seeing what cancer can do to a person. No one should ever have to go through that, especially a child. She meant the world to me and really disliked me being a gamer.
"Mom, I know I'm playing those damned games again, but this time its for a worthy cause!!!! I am helping out kids!"
Odins Messenger 09-17-2008, 12:15 AM To my Grandfather George Bottrell who battled Leukemia for years. He worked everyday until he finally retired at 72(?) I believe, he died shortly after his retirement. He tried to hide it from all of us and he fought bravely but in the end he succumbed to it after (From what I've been told) roughly 10+ years of fighting. He was a great man, one of the greatest I have ever had the privilege to know. I hope that he could see this, he was old school and didn't understand gaming but I think he would have supported such an endeavor.
R.I.P. Papa.
AgesMcCoor 09-17-2008, 12:26 AM i would like to dedicate my efforts to John Lahola
my late grandfather who unfortunately passed away from cancer
after leading an active life in ukraine he was arrested by the nazis
and placed in auschwitz as a political prisoner. being a tradesmen he
was valued and there kept alive (barely) during which he used his position to smuggle scraps of food back to the other prisoners insted of keeping it for himself
when the russians liberated auschwitz from the germans he came to edmonton, AB Canada (where i live now) and he became the only tradesmen who knew how to fix streetcleaner brushes in edmonton forcing him to work too many hours a week.
so this ones for you grandpa
and anyone else who is battling cancer today
heavyfiregrunt 09-17-2008, 01:19 AM I'm fighting for my grand father who passed away on 4/23/06
He suddenly died of lung cancer that had gone unnoticed
photomaster94 09-17-2008, 08:21 AM both my grandmothers are alive but one of them has had cancer 3 times and the other one just got it for the fourth
Unwritten Law19 09-17-2008, 08:27 PM My only living grandfather has prostate cancer and every couple months has to go in to get rid of some skin cancer that begins to grow, yet he still works, plays around, and stays happy. Couldn't ask for a better one

Love you guys
mallavu399 09-17-2008, 10:09 PM I wish I could play but I can't. I have gone out and collected money for cancer and gave it to my aunt and uncle (not married) because their spouses died from cancers. So now I do a bunch of walks and fundraisers.
Makelevi 09-22-2008, 05:45 PM When I signed up for this it was just for a good cause. I just wanted to help.
Friday night we got a call. My Great Aunt Dawn died. She had cancer. The service was today, and I just got back from it. Extra Life has a new inspiration for me---this is in honour of my Aunt.
Demosthenes 09-22-2008, 07:26 PM My favorite uncle Charlie. I visited him in the hospital right before he passed. He had jaundiced eyes, swollen belly, looked terrible. He said, "Ask me how I am." I said, "Uncle Charlie, how are you?" He smiled and simply said, "Fantastic!" That was the epitome of Uncle Charlie. The hardest part was walking out of that room knowing it would be the last conversation we would have. I think he knew it, too.
nr1012 09-23-2008, 01:25 AM I know this has nothing to do with Extra Life but could you guys do another one of these events for alzheimers? My grandpa passed away in 2003 because of that damn disease. I am also at risk along with my father. Having said that I want to say a big R.I.P. to all of those who we lost to cancer.
Purple Demon 09-24-2008, 12:07 PM If I could take part, it'd be for Kyle, a guy who went to my primary school from about 7 or 8 years ago, he was about 2 years below me, and died from Leukemia when he was just 6.
The McMurder 10-05-2008, 11:09 PM My grandmother, she died of ovarian cancer

The McMurder 10-06-2008, 11:52 PM I know this thread was only supposed to be one post thing but
One day there will be a cure, and I'll be there to see it.

God be with you

nightrider 10-08-2008, 10:00 AM My grandfather died a few years ago. The sadest thing that have ever happened in my life. Also my Grandmother who almost died of it, but still going strong healty today.
The Dutch Don 10-08-2008, 12:02 PM I'll play & donate in honor of my grandma who died of cancer 32 years ago when I was just 7 years old. It's been forever ago but I vividly remember that period of visiting her in the hospital and eventually having to go to her funeral.
I'll also play & donate in the hope my son, Jaeden, who's just 2 weeks old will eventually grow up in a world that's free of cancer.
Betani 10-08-2008, 03:26 PM For both of my Grandpas, one of whom I was too young to remember. For Mrs. Hoch, one of my favorite teachers. For Maureen, a wonderful children's librarian. For Kay, who didn't know until it was too late. For Uncle Mike.
For Gramma, who is dealing with skin cancer. For Chris, who is battling ovarian cancer.
And right now, mostly for Connie, who was the strongest fighter I ever knew.
Brushie Tundra 10-10-2008, 01:22 AM I cannot play that day but I am donating to 4 different players. I am doing that in honor/ memory of:
Eugene Kreutzer Sr.- My father wasn't a cancer victim, but his life was
far too short. He was a loving husband and a caring,
generous father. Not a day goes by that he is not
mourned.
Robbie Myers- The 8 year old son of my love Dee. A sweet little boy taken too
young by leukemia. This small boy is monumentally missed.
Richard LaPlante- He was almost my father-in-law, but he was definitely
as close to being a second father that I have ever had.
Cancer took him last year and I still grieve.
One more to come with an edit tomorrow.
I am infinitely proud the people in the Sarcastic Gamer family. We are more than just a diverse group of people. You have restored my faith in humanity when it is sorely needed..
tinyian 10-10-2008, 02:44 PM I would like to dedicate my efforts to a very important person in my life: My Auntie Beryl.
She lost her battle last year and is sorely missed by my whole family. Although not a blood relative to me, she was such a kind and wonderful person who will always be missed.
When her best friend died at a young age she adopted her two children and brought them up as her own. A more amazing person I could not imagine.
She was always around helping me out and never judging me whatever I did. I often feel her presence near me in times of trouble, and hope she would be proud I'm doing something like this in her honour.
Artemas 10-10-2008, 03:24 PM Im playing for my grandfather who although had cancer since the 70s acutally died from a head injury a few months ago as well on the behalf of all people who suffer from this disease.
