I knew reading a newspaper would pay off one day, (take that, Eoco - I told you physical was just as good as digital) as today’s edition of The Times in the UK features SG’s very own Microsoft Surface parody in the “Web Watcher” column today. Which could mean that 400,000 people look up our video today. Okay, it could mean that 4 people look up our video today, out of a boredom-infused curiosity.
Still, great news! Hit the jump for details on the column in question.
Today’s edition of the Web Watcher internet column in the paper picked up on Microsoft Surface, describing *the “techno-lust” that most geeks feel when they see the device, “desperate to acquire one of these amazing devices even if you were not entirely sure what you could possibly do with it once you had it.”
Then the column claims this techno-lust would disappear once you had seen the “spot-on satirical re-dubbing” of another piece of footage which is, as you’ve probably realised by now, Doc’s very own Microsoft Surface parody video. The column goes on (briefly, but still, it goes on) to say:
It’s a clip that skewers our collective desire for silicon-based gewgaws so accurately that, once it has been viewed by a critical mass of Times readers, will surely drive the share price of Comet [a UK electronics store] into freefall.
Unfortunately, the writer doesn’t quite get to mentioning Sarcastic Gamer by name (although a TinyURL link in the article takes you directly to the Surface parody on YouTube). The fact remains though that any recognition in a national newspaper is nice, even if the readers of said newspaper are a bunch of codgy old men will either never read the column (confused by the sheer scale of the interwebs) or simply give it a passing glance. Of course, a couple of people might view the video out of morbid curiosity and if so, then we must thank The Times for giving us those 3 extra video views we wouldn’t have received otherwise.

Until then, enjoy a scan of the article in question and a marvelous fact to make your day feel that little bit more special: the Times New Roman font was originally commissioned for The Times newspaper before becoming one of the world’s most-used fonts and being included with every copy of Windows.
