To those of us in the Texas area, especially those around the coast and around the Houston area, looks like Ike will be making things difficult for all of us this weekend. I know this will change things for some of us (our two Houstonian podcast hosts), I have work canceled for the weekend and have to delay some of my ExtraLife plans. Looks like we were lucky about the other hurricanes, but the last one this season will be the one we have to ride out. Shouldn't be too bad but better to be safe than sorry.

This is why I love living in the middle of the country. All we have in natural disasters are tornadoes and country music.

Good luck with the hurricane. Stay safe.

Hurricane Ike fights for his friends!

I do hope my uncle in Key West is okay, though.

Yeah, I live over on Florida's treasure coast. In the course of about five hours, I went from packing my stuff to "S**t, what's gonna happen to Dave and Doc?!....oh, and anyone else who happens to be over there....like my extended family.....

Looks like most of the people in the Houston area will be riding the storm, taking most of the day today preparing even though a lot of people are working and at school. My mother is medical so she's got to stay. We've got ton of water bottles ready and looks like we'll be doing a lot of nothing Friday. There is a chance that it can pull a Rita and veer off to the right. *crosses fingers*

(CNN) -- Residents living in single-family homes in some parts of coastal Texas face "certain death" if they do not heed orders to evacuate ahead of Hurricane Ike's arrival, the National Weather Service said Thursday night.

Those are some extreme words. Hope everyone is able to evacuate. Stay safe.

Just came here to say becareful to Doc, the crew & anyone from the Texas area. Be safe from GTR. I stay in Miami, FL and let me tell you Hurricanes are no joke at all. Ike is a pretty big and STRONG storm.

My advice is.... if they tell you to leave then get out!

Things are always much, much worse than the news tell you.

Some politicians in my country messed up and it was OBVIOUS that some kind of a riot will take place the next day, and they said "No need to worry, nothing will happen"
The next day half the city was trashed.

So when the news say "Certain death"....

It's kind of strange today. Everything looks pretty normal but the little things like gas stations being empty, stores closed, and traffic actually moving along make it seam strange.

The good thing is that people really did well to prepare themselves this time. Last time for "Rita" people were going crazy at the last second, gas prices were through the roof when you could find it, store were bare, and people were stuck on the highways for like 12+ hours.

There are a lot of places that are out of gas but you can still find it if you look around. The stores are mostly empty but you can still get water and such in some places. I am really happy to here that the Galveston evacuation went really well. Freeways got back up a bit yesterday but are just fine today. I think people are taking this as serious which is good. They are saying that a storm surge could put the entire island of Galveston under water.

We should be fine in Houston. I think everyone has what they need to hunker down. The main thing that people are worried about is that we could see at least tropical storm forces for about 24 hours. Loss of power might be a problem but people should be safe and that’s good.

Yeah what makes it even worse is that this will all be happening around midnight. So it will be dark when the hurricane is around us here. Everything seems to be pretty orderly around where I'm at. Everyone has their gas, everyone got their food earlier today at the last minute, way ahead of landfall.

My parents are pretty naive, they still think nothing will happen and think Ike will pull a Rita and turn off more to the east. I'm more of a "prepare for the worst" type of person so we are canceling each other out. No one in my neighborhood has any windows taped or boarded up so we haven't done it. Wind has been blowing all day and will get stronger as the day goes on.

But all in all, everyone that I've talked to that are staying is prepared. Got enough food for, have enough water, have things to do while sitting tight. Everything has been done very orderly by the the Houston officials and the surrounding cities. Our main tv stations have had the news on 24 hours since yesterday and has kept everyone informed. Some people are thinking the news stations are blowing things out of proportion.

I do have Crown and bottles of wine ready to go though. And my DS is fully powered, maybe I can finish my first run on Final Fantasy IV...

Agreed. I heard on the news that it's "certain death" if you stay.

I just saw footage from Texas on the news and suddenly Im not so worried about the podcast, rather than their lives

Stuff was destroyed.
Some stuff... wasn't there anymore.

EDIT: So I read the updates Doc and Dave and posted on the site and it seems that the footage I saw was from enough miles away from them that nothing serious happened

Edit: I'm sure they will be fine it was only a Cat 2. Though I am very worried due to the fact that the huricane missed them by very little.

They only seem to want to talk about the major ones and what big city it hits. Being from Louisiana myself, living here most of my life, and seeing what storms do first hand I do not wish them on my worst enemies. Well... ok maybe them!! But just them! The loss is more than what most people care to know. While I am glad everyone is safe, lets not forget ALL of those that the storms effect, SG members and others!

::sidebar:: During a storm, or the aftermath, especially when a week or more, always remember to leave some room on the generator for your preferred gaming device. Its what I did!!!! I may not have had hot water or central A/C. But I sure played my 360 like it was goin out of style!!!!

Came through ok. Two trees are down and as well as the fence. Have a hole in the roof and some water damage because of that. Overall though my family and I are safe.

Not having power sucks big time.
