So, I bought one of the first 20 gig PS3s and now it is full. I decided to stick a external 150gig hard drive on it but of course Sony has screwed me. Apparently I can only put music on it. If I put game saves on it I have to re copy them back onto my harddrive before I play. Sony needs to let any external hard drive copy games.

Unless I am missing something of course.

Well, at least I got a Wii from Gamepro. Just wish they would send it.

Is the external hard drive the right format?

Is the external hard drive the right format?

It should be.

It should be fat 32. lol. j/k. I know what you meant. I wonder if that was done on purpose. Not sure why but maybe Sony made it easy for game developers by setting a universal storage location for game saves.

Why didn't you buy an internal one? Im pretty sure they are alot cheaper than external HDD's

the game saves are tiny, I dont think you need to put them on the external drive, try putting the other stuff video and music on the external. although you prob cant use the external for in game music playing, i dont know just typing i'll stop now

also you could have got the 60gb unit to begin with, it was your choice to get the tiny drive version, plus you can just upgrade you internal drive, why did you bother with the external. sony dint screw you, you screwed yourself with out knowing it. I got a 60gb unit and struggle sometimes with space. I think its just a fact that you can never have enough hard drive space, it will always get used up.

i don't see how they screwed you over... i don't remember them ever saying that gamesaves support external harddrives... it was made to have the internal HD replaced, not an additional external one. i would imagine they will eventually fix that, but it doesn't seem like something that's terribly bad.

return the external and get an internal drive. The only reason I could see this being a benefit is if you also use this with your PC. But then of course, you could also stream your video and music from your PC.

Should have got a 60GB, the 20GB don't even support BT or wireless BB

Keep the external HDD, buy an internal 2.5" drive, do a system backup of your current 20GB drive onto the External drive. Then install your new drive and restore your info. simple.
