I turned on iTunes today to see if I had any podcasts to download and something came up asking me do I want to download version 8.0 of iTunes and I downloaded it and all it done was changed the way the music and podcasts is listed and it gave a thing called "The Genius" it looks at your music and looks through iTunes Music Store for music you might like.

Did any one else download it and if you did did you use "The Genius" yet?Because I haven't.

Well, it hasn't really changed that much. It still sucks, it's still slow, and it's pretty much the same. Give us something new, Apple!

Got it now, i probably wont use Genius much, and i don't like the new album thumbnail style so it's abit disappointing for me. Even the new visualizer really repetitive.

One thing though, for the first time today i have randomly gotten lyrics for some of my songs on my iPod touch now, this has never happened before and i don't think i put the lyrics there. Maybe it's be a new iTunes 8 feature?

I got it a few days ago. Nothing new I like, and that "Genius" thing sounds really stupid, and I could imagine that no matter what, it will only recommend you listen to "Feist".

Okay genius works as follows...

on the right side of the screen there is a side bar recommending new songs based on the songs you have

or when you click on a song and select genius in the lower right... it'll create a playlist based off that song with the songs in your library

kinda cool but i heard on buzz out loud a technology podcast that the new zune software's playlist creation will make the genius feature look like the 1990's

I think Genius should do it's whole library scanning thing but also place a few (Full!) songs you can buy in the mix. I rarely look at the mini store/ Genius sidebar and I could care less about the 30 Sec preview of the song. You want us to buy more songs and discover more music, show us songs we don't have without us having to jump through hoops.

Other then that iTunes is just iTunes for me. I use it everyday.

anyone else get that annoying frog sound when you do anything? More importantly, anyone know how to turn it off? It's really annoying me. I've reverted all my podcast views to iTunes 7. I'd rather Apple spend their time making it run faster, than making it look pretty.

The genius thing is cool, but I probably won't be using it much. That was pretty much the only new thing I noticed besides splitting up the music by genre but I can change it anyway.

Genius is basically 'Just for You', but easier to make you waste money.

The update has a wicked complicated (but pretty) format that makes downloading podcasts (among other things) a chore...

Ummm, I think I'll pass. I don't update iTunes anymore ever since they changed from the green icon to the blue. I think I'm on version, like, 5.

I have it. and like it so far. more so than itunes 7. i really like the Genius playlist maker thing. however, the one thing i dont like is that, my iLike sidebar doesnt work with itunes 8. otherwise i like it.

I got it the day it came out and there are no problems so far beside those HD shows. When you buy a TV show, you download the regular and the HD version or it was b/c some episodes were free

I have it, but the new view is hard to follow and genius is just annoying sometimes. I would keep whatever iTune you have.

You guys do know there is a view change option left of the search...I just changed the view to the way it used to be and use 8 as it is without the idiotic view they added.

to be honest, I've been enjoying the hell out of the genius, I pick a song, hit the genius button, and it shows me some song that I may like (that I already own)

Yes, in the List view go to the view menu and choose hide artwork column and it will just have a flat list of all songs sorted however you normally sort.

I'm loving the genius thing. It's a bit random at times (particularly with older music it seems) - but makes putting together playlists quickly really easy (though some editing is still required I find, but you can do 3 genius lists and use them to put together a decent playlist).

I started Genius, but then saw on cnet that it's a resource hog.
Plus most of the songs it recommended for purchase I already had in my library.

iTunes in general is a resource hog, in fact most of these music collection/player/stores are. For playing music if I could find an old version of Winamp before they ruined it with all the extra junk that it never needed(which basically means the one that just played music and took next to no resources whatsoever) I would be in heaven.

foobar is great if you want something that takes up almost no resources. I use iTunes when I'm browsing/working and foobar when I'm playing games/compiling/rendering.
