View Full Version : Oh f*** yes!
SWSilentkiller 09-16-2008, 10:18 PM good news for al of us wii owners. Nintendo is holding a fall press conference in October where they will be announcing "new products"
Here is the link to the article (http://kotaku.com/5050868/nintendo-holding-fall-2008-press-conference)
All I got to say is f*** yeah.
strika234 09-16-2008, 10:19 PM what could they mean? a new ds?
SWSilentkiller 09-16-2008, 10:21 PM what could they mean? a new ds?
Who knows, but I am cautiously optimistic.
Shane86 09-16-2008, 10:23 PM I'll be too busy playing Fallout 3, Fable 2, LittleBigPlanet etc. in October to care, unless it's a new ds or zelda game. :w00t:
strika234 09-16-2008, 10:25 PM Who knows, but I am cautiously optimistic.
optimistic about what? they've pretty much screwed the harcore group, so its most likely going to be a wii music accesory or something like that...
The McMurder 09-17-2008, 12:35 AM NOW ANNOUNCING WII WAVE... where you and your mii practice all the various ways to wave at other wiis... hello, goodbye, see you later, the list goes on and on!!! But wait there's more you can get all this for the low low low price of $89.99 just like the wii fit this will also come with a unique peripheral the wii glove
nathanhale 09-17-2008, 05:39 AM Unless it's a new mario platformer (not just some shit game with the mario logo on it) I don't care
Grantly 09-17-2008, 07:44 AM Please be F-Zero Please be F-Zero Please be F-Zero...
Hopefully they announce a storage solution and some games that kick ass...like F-Zero...
We can only wait...
Least we don't have to wait this long.
Ploogle 09-17-2008, 12:06 PM They didn't seem to really care about E3...so I'm guessing this is where they actually want to unveil all of their really big stuff. Possibilities?
1) New DS (Most likely, as they've said it'll be "new products")
2) Storage Solution
3) More info on Zelda/Mario games in development
4) New Wii Channel
All I know is that there's gonna be something HUGE if they are hosting their own press conference. :w00t:
chris24680 09-17-2008, 01:50 PM Who knows, but I am cautiously optimistic.
of what, the "wii are generic minigame colection" game a game so casual even casual gamers will think it is crap, a game so casual that a your average bird, plantlife or rock can play.
Sorry frawlz its a bit to difficult for you best leave it to your rock.
SWSilentkiller 09-17-2008, 04:21 PM Ok those of you that are saying nothing good and adding nothing to the conversation, explain to me why you are on the Wii part of SG? Are you looking for news on the 360 or something? Please if all you do is insult the wii and those of us here who own it stop posting here!
Masselli18 09-17-2008, 04:37 PM yeah, interesting. but will be checking that out

Sounds reasonable. I'm not going to get exited though, if I keep my hopes down I'll get even more exited when something good happens!
Plus, I'll be cushioned if it fails!
Hungry Luma 09-17-2008, 05:01 PM Lets hope for the best!
Ploogle 09-17-2008, 05:12 PM From what I've heard, the next DS is confirmed to have:
Widescreen (both screens)
Multitouch (both screens...yes, two touch screens)
No GBA slot?
What I *hope* it has:
GPS (Hehe...pipe dreams ftw)
Internal storage and/or SD support
Small screen on top (like most cell phones)
Wii interface to download game demos, games, and applications.
We'll know pretty soon; if not tomorrow or Oct 2nd, early next year.
MeRcEnArY 09-17-2008, 05:51 PM Ok those of you that are saying nothing good and adding nothing to the conversation, explain to me why you are on the Wii part of SG? I totally agree my friend, i dont post here much but i do read, and some of the comments are just fanboy based bulls**t
So im all for getting peeps to stop posting crap!
cameroncrazy 09-17-2008, 08:06 PM Sweet. Hope its not as crappy as the E3 Press Conference

 i was just... nevermind if you really want me to go i will but considering i have a wii i think i should be able to post in the wii section
strika234 09-18-2008, 06:32 AM though I do agree you shouldn't post in the wii section if you just constantly put down everything, but we wouldn't want every reaction to everything nintendo to be "That's awesome".
there's two sides to everything...
Diortem 09-18-2008, 10:09 AM  i was just... nevermind if you really want me to go i will but considering i have a wii i think i should be able to post in the wii section
As much as I agree with what you are responding to, I dont include you in it. Frankly, you actually will argue it and reasonably. I think we can aim this more at the likes of Kiljoy. (Where the hell is he, btw?)
Kiljoy 09-18-2008, 11:36 AM Sorry I was late, I need to go get my Wii hate play book...
Ok found it, now to flip to the page reguarding Wii press conferences... aaaannnnd ok here we go,
Wii sucks.
AssassinsClaw 09-18-2008, 11:51 AM Aaaaanyway getting back to the subject....
ive heard rumours that their increasing mii customisation and possibley adding trophies/acheivements (Wiicheivements!!???)
whether thats true or a load of crap i dunno, we'll just have to wait and see..

I KNEW you would make your way here! So who stole your book and what did you do with the body?
And PLEASE tell me you have more plans then that... otherwise, you might want to get a refund.
Kiljoy 09-18-2008, 11:56 AM Well it just says (see hardcore market).
Ahh here we go, Nintendo press conferences, though exciting, seemed to be more geared towards the casual, reason being is because thats when they would get most of that audience. the smaller reports, like quotes from Miyamoto and such would be reported by sites like Kotaku and not checked by that market, but instead checked by the hardcore. So Nintendo figures the hardcore would be searching, and the casual wouldn't, so might as well just bring the info to them.
Diortem 09-18-2008, 12:00 PM Thought they told him to shut up... right down to his hobbies.... yep... you book is out of date!
Ploogle 09-18-2008, 02:10 PM So, uh...anyone else want to take a stab at some predictions?

They just cite him as an example, apparently the book credits him as "The best thing to happen to Nintendo since... Nintendo"
Diortem 09-18-2008, 04:22 PM Well yeah.... if it wasnt for him, they would be a card game company still.
Grantly 09-18-2008, 05:56 PM 1.F-Zero
2. 2-D Metroid for DS
3.Wii Storage solution
4. Throwing Friend Codes out
5. Starfox Wii
6. Info on Mario/Zelda titles in development
7. New DS
If they announce a new DS I want to see an online store like the VC where I can download Game Boy games as well as the consoles on the Wii's VC.
Ploogle 09-18-2008, 06:51 PM 4. Throwing Friend Codes out
DEAR LORD YES. That would be a really smart move on their part, although it would require most games to change the way they handle their online (forcing older games to create a patch to keep working). Not gonna happen. Next system (console or handheld) MAYBE.
MastaBeerz 09-18-2008, 06:56 PM 1. New Pokemon game (For Wii)

Saying "Nothing good" is still adding to the conversation.
Anyway, I hope its a new real game (nothing with the prefix "Wii-" or Mario playing a sport). Usually all big Nintendo first party games deliver so that would be awesome. Also if its a new DS that would be sweet. Aside from that I cant think of anything that would impress me, but heck Im ready to be surprised.
heyfling 09-18-2008, 10:25 PM My 10 things I want to see from Nintendo:
10. Rechargeable Batteries that actually work- I bought the Nyko rechargeable batteries for the Wiimotes and they didn't last more then one charge before dying. I want Rechargeable batteries similar to the ones for the 360 that will last for months before having to throw them out.
9. The DTS(Dual Touch Screen)- I am hoping that this is going to be Nintendo's next gen handheld device, not just a DS SP(think Gameboy Advance SP)
8. Wii Motion Plus- I realize this was shown at E3 but Nintendo didn't do it any justice during the presentation
7. Pikmin 3- This game is confirmed to be in development and I am hoping to see some sort of trailer/in-game video
6. Wiispeak- I am hoping Nintendo will announce patches/software updates to allow voice chat for games that are already on the market
5. Storage solution- Nintendo has already said that they aren't going to bring out a hard drive for the Wii, so I am hoping they show us a solution to the lack of storage in the Wii
4. Mario Tennis Wii- Mario Tennis 64 was one of my favourite games from the N64(the Gamecube game wasn't as good but was still fun), out of all the Mario sports games, this is the only one I really want to see
3. Revivals of classic franchises- I am hoping that Nintendo will revive classic franchises like Mother, Kid Icarus and the Ice Climbers
2. More information on the Zelda and Mario titles- Are they going to be on the Wii or DS? Is the Mario game going to be a sequel to Galaxy? Is the Zelda game going to be Cell-shaded? These are the questions I want answered
1. Cammie Dunnaway to be-
a) uninvited
b) fired
c) shot out of a cannon into the sun
d) all of the above
I picked d)
SWSilentkiller 09-18-2008, 10:33 PM all right since everyone is saying what they want from this conference I may as well.
1. New IP
2. Revival of old IP (Kid Icarus)
3. New console Zelda game
4. FPS made by Nintendo
5. No More Friend codes
6. Fall and Holiday line up to contain games that aren't all third party
7. AN ANNOUNCEMENT THAT THEY WILL BE PATCHING BRAWL TO FIX THE F****** LAG.
8. Storage solution.
I really hope they do #7
Shane86 09-18-2008, 10:40 PM It's going to be wii fit 2, nintendo doesn't care about you anymore

monkeychunkuk 09-19-2008, 01:35 AM new ds colours and new wii coulors!!!
Diortem 09-19-2008, 06:34 AM DEAR LORD YES. That would be a really smart move on their part, although it would require most games to change the way they handle their online (forcing older games to create a patch to keep working). Not gonna happen. Next system (console or handheld) MAYBE.
You do know that the Wii doesnt force those things, right? EA has released a title or two already that DONT use friend codes. It's actually possible that if Nintendo stops being stubborn about it, they COULD announce something like "games Teens and up by Nintendo wont use friend codes" realistically.
My 10 things I want to see from Nintendo:
10. Rechargeable Batteries that actually work- I bought the Nyko rechargeable batteries for the Wiimotes and they didn't last more then one charge before dying. I want Rechargeable batteries similar to the ones for the 360 that will last for months before having to throw them out.
MONTHS? ONE TIME? Damn you have bad luck with batteries. I have those same ones and have had no issue with my wiimotes holding a charge.... and my brothers have both had their 360s for quite some time now... the batteries havent died yet (though a controller did.... the littlest one broke his).
9. The DTS(Dual Touch Screen)- I am hoping that this is going to be Nintendo's next gen handheld device, not just a DS SP(think Gameboy Advance SP)
Im not so sure of this one yet.... When the DS stops selling better then anything else, I will wonder when, but right now, I dont think the current model is going away. They MIGHT make a version 3 (like GBA Micro) but that's the most I would suspect here.
8. Wii Motion Plus- I realize this was shown at E3 but Nintendo didn't do it any justice during the presentation
VERY agreed. If they showed this with say, a customed Red Steel or something to show off what it means, that would be INTENSE.
7. Pikmin 3- This game is confirmed to be in development and I am hoping to see some sort of trailer/in-game video
Im not counting on this.... I think we only know this because Mayamoto felt bad about the conference at E3. I doubt it's that far along.
6. Wiispeak- I am hoping Nintendo will announce patches/software updates to allow voice chat for games that are already on the market
THAT would be amazing, and it would be an INSTANT killer-app for a data storage system!
5. Storage solution- Nintendo has already said that they aren't going to bring out a hard drive for the Wii, so I am hoping they show us a solution to the lack of storage in the Wii
My gut instinct is they will give us more details.... after all, they are doing things their way on their time with this.... so obviously they want to show us something big.
4. Mario Tennis Wii- Mario Tennis 64 was one of my favourite games from the N64(the Gamecube game wasn't as good but was still fun), out of all the Mario sports games, this is the only one I really want to see
HERE we cant agree.... the last thing I want is another sports game... I look at Wiisports as a tech demo (one that can be fun once in a while, but all the same), but frankly, I still feel that we havent reached a point with the Wii that playing a sports video game has a point yet. (Unless there is no way in hell you could just play the real game outside or in a place for it.)
3. Revivals of classic franchises- I am hoping that Nintendo will revive classic franchises like Mother, Kid Icarus and the Ice Climbers
Nah, forget that... Kid Icarus would be cool, but I REALLY want to see an announcement for Metroid Dread myself.
2. More information on the Zelda and Mario titles- Are they going to be on the Wii or DS? Is the Mario game going to be a sequel to Galaxy? Is the Zelda game going to be Cell-shaded? These are the questions I want answered
Ok, Im curious, but not really too concerned about that one... Mario and Zelda are classic, but the classic I follow is the Bounty Hunter.
1. Cammie Dunnaway to be-
a) uninvited
b) fired
c) shot out of a cannon into the sun
d) all of the above
I picked d)
I think we ALL picked d.

It's actually possible that if Nintendo stops being stubborn about it, they COULD announce something like "games Teens and up by Nintendo wont use friend codes" realistically. I mean, a system similar to Xbox live, with a universal screenname across all games. It's probably too late for them to implement something like that, though. Maybe for the next console.

They MIGHT make a version 3 (like GBA Micro) but that's the most I would suspect here. Well, they are looking at some competition with the (somewhat insignificant, but still worth looking at) revival of the PSP, and also the flaunting of the iPod touch in terms of gaming. The DS has been out for a while, and it might be a good idea to reinforce their hold on the market instead of waiting to lose it and then try to get it back.
I have a REALLY wild theory related to Nintendo, which I've divulged only to SWSilentKiller. If I'm right, he'll back me up when I say that I called it first.

Maybe, but I think THAT actually could be possible "PC style." As it stands, you do have a Wii code as well.... how much code changes to the OS could it take to make your friends list in the Wii let you know if your buddies are online or not (and if not what game they are playing, at least if they are in one)? In each game, you will still need separate lists, but you could have a master one to help you meetup in each one ALOT easier if that was added.

Honestly, I dont think they need to... they may announce plans to BEGIN working on one, but thats the most they could even remotely need to do right now. (Course we heard about the DS a full year before it hit, so...)

Good luck! Im not going to make any real predictions, but rather I want to just sit back and watch the fireworks.
Ploogle 09-20-2008, 12:30 PM It's not Nintendo's problem to deal with the individual games that have already used the FC system, although it is their fault for not at least having the SAME code to use across each game. I don't want to have 5 different codes for 5 different games. I like your idea, however, of showing you which of your Wii friends has their Wii on. The Wii already has that Home menu that you can access pretty much any time during a game, all they'd have to do is add in a "Who's Online" and message (Wii Speak, maybe?) system to organize a game.
Honestly, I dont think they need to... they may announce plans to BEGIN working on one, but thats the most they could even remotely need to do right now. (Course we heard about the DS a full year before it hit, so...)
Game companies are already in the design stages for the next iteration of a game system by the time the last one had been released on the market. Wii's development started right after the Gamecube, and I wouldn't doubt that they had already been making plans for where to go next after the DS was released. Plans may or may not be scrapped depending on how well the current device is doing. If the DS's touch screen turned out to be a flop, they probably would have re-thought the whole thing. I'm not saying that they'll announce the DS2 for the holiday season, I'm agreeing with you in that they'll at least REVEAL the device, much like they did for the DS a year in advance. We could be seeing the DS2 for the 2009 holiday season.
How long has the DS been out? Seems like a while...5, 6 years? Edit: Okay, 4 years, but that was the gap between the GBA and DS, and longer than the 3 years between the Color and GBA. It's about time for another system according to the Nintendo cycle.
Jarrett 09-20-2008, 02:28 PM Multitouch (both screens...yes, two touch screens)
No GBA slot?
I'm not sure I'd like two touch screens... :undecided:
I hope they keep the GBA slot. Maybe the ability to play Gameboy Color/Pocket games (A la GBA)?

Understandable. It's a feature that could either be used REALLY well, or REALLY badly. I think that the feature would lend itself more to games where you hold the system like a book...and also, you'd probably not have a stylus. It would probably be like the iPhone/iPod Touch where you use your fingers across a flat surface.

Using fingers might be difficult while playing some action games, although I could imagine it being fun for more toned-done games.
I would always lose my stylus, so the pressure of losing would be gone. Although it's a good back scratcher, so there goes that...

Oh, there would be games that would be better suited to a stylus, which you would undoubtedly find, but to take advantage of multitouch you'd need to use your fingers.

You know what doesn't though? The price of it if those were some features.
Ploogle 09-20-2008, 07:03 PM Hmm... That sounds sweet.

Think about it: The most expensive that a Nintendo system ever cost was $250, right? (Or at least, aside from the NES/SNES.) That was a console. The most a handheld cost was $150. If the system was $200, that would be pretty reasonable for the features AND not incredibly expensive. Games tend to increase in price with a new system, so you could expect $40-50 for the next games. It's more expensive, but that's a given. It would HAVE to play older DS games, and just turn off the top touch screen (and multitouch) while you played that.
Even if it's just a new DS with widescreen and internal storage, that would be welcome! I have an original DS that works fine, and no reason to get a redesign unless it's a totally new system or gives me a LOT of incentive to do so.
The McMurder 09-20-2008, 11:29 PM !Nintendo will see this and make it:lol:!
I hope so... royalties anyone

I understand what you're saying, but multitouch and two touch screens will rack up the price pretty significantly. Internal memory would be pretty sick. Good for borrowing games. So, would it be around $200 you think?

That's what my prediction is. Kotaku predicted back in August that the new system would actually arrive in the middle of next year.

Same here, even the broken in half bit. :p If there were 3 or 4 games that looked good to me on the PSP, I would consider getting one. As it is, there's only LocoRoco and Patapon that I'd consider. I'd rather get a new DS, as I've always been a Nintendo fan.

The Gameboy name is dead... Nintendo has all but assured us of that.

Agreed. If they had any plans to bring back the Gameboy, they would have called it the Gameboy DS. As it is, anything with the word "Game" in front of it has been removed from the consciousness of Nintendo, Gamecube included.

Aside from Gameboy, they never named ANY system "Game" anything till the cube.

Well, you get the point, anyway.

It's a shame. I always like the Gameboy name. It was pretty catchy.
But what how would they make the name better than the last?
The 'Gameboy... Even MORE Advanced'? In a way, I'm glad they dropped it.

Haha! Plus 'Gameboy DS' doesn't sound very cool.
What do you think the next DS will be titled? DS 2? DS Advanced?
Same here, even the broken in half bit. :p If there were 3 or 4 games that looked good to me on the PSP, I would consider getting one. As it is, there's only LocoRoco and Patapon that I'd consider. I'd rather get a new DS, as I've always been a Nintendo fan.
Me too. I figured that if I have a Wii AND a DS, why buy a PSP if I don't get a PS3 as well? That and the fact that almost NONE of my buddies have PS3s.
I'm a Nintendo fan too. :p
tomyg 09-26-2008, 07:26 PM OHHHHHHHH YEAHHHHHH, maybe my wii will see use but i am also somewhat cautiosly optimistic. If they announce something cool then so be it if not, then nintendo is dead in my eyes.
Ploogle 09-27-2008, 05:27 PM Darnit. I figured it out. (SWSilentKiller already heard this from me)
Nintendo announced not long ago that they would announce their solution to the storage issue "soon"? Now, how long after that did we hear about the press conference? Like, a week or two? Didn't they say they would announce "new products"? See where I'm going with this?
Taking into consideration the fact that it's been about 4-5 years since the DS came out, and that new Nintendo handhelds are released every 3-5 years, the only thing I can think of given the circumstances is that we'll see two new Nintendo products unveiled: a higher-storage Wii (the Wiilite, if you will) and either a new or redesigned DS that includes internal memory. New DS is cool, new Wii is not unless they have a trade-in offer. The new Wii model would probably come in new colors, too. :(

yeah, making a new version of the wii would piss me off a bit, not to mention I would I have to buy an SD card to transfer all my data if they made a new wii.
To be honest, I doubt it will be a new version of the Wii with a higher storage capacity, it'll probably be something you can plug into one of the USB ports in the back of the Wii.
What I would like nintendo to announce is, when wii speak comes out, they come out with a firmware update that allows older games on the wii with online functionality to use wii speak, and if not that, then at least patch brawl so it does not lag and allow it to work with wii speak.

Does anyone think that USB storage support would count as "Not a hard drive"? It would make the most sense for Nintendo to do, maybe even as part of a new media channel. But, making sense means Nintendo probably won't deliver it.
Come to think of it, they did say "not a hard drive", and a new Wii model with a hard drive would contradict that. Forget my last post, then. :p Disregard...there's nothing to see here...
