So remember the whole Insomniac Games desecrated the Manchester Cathedral and the entire Church of England issue becuase they held a fictional alternate reality alien invasion battle there? *I know, it seems a little far fetched (but made a killer game level). *We all know how the game was released for what, a half a year before someone at the church learned of it and got outraged enough to his the "Alert the Media!" button. *Well, fast forward to now and the Church of England has not only rejected Sony's latest apology (my guess is because it wasn't stacked on a cubic yard of hundred dollar bills), they've sought fit to issue a new work in progress called the Sacred Digital Guidelines to keep incidents like this from happening in the future. *Of course my list of things to keep this from happening in the future would be much shorter and not so sacred... it would have this single entry: Don't get your panties in a bunch over fictional works of art! *Yes, I call your "travesty" a work of art. *Get over it Church of England, you're coming off like a bunch of Holier than thou asses. *See what I did there with the "Holier than thou?"

So here is their current list of Sacred Digital Guidelines:
Respect our sacred spaces as places of prayer, worship, peace, learning and heritage.
Do not assume that sacred space interiors are copyright free.
Get permission from the faith leaders who are responsible for the building interiors you want to clone.
Support the work of those engaged in resisting the culture of gun crime and those involved in promoting the work of conflict resolution. So let's go down the list, shall we? *Was there any disrespect for the sacred spaces? *I mean in a fictional alternate reality, they've envisioned an alien invasion. *Are we to think the aliens will only destroy strip joints and gun shops? *My guess is they won't give a damn whether it's the Manchester Cathedral or a Dunkin' Donuts. *Sorry Church of England, your assumption that aliens will respect your "sacred spaces" seems a little misplaced.

Is the inside of the Manchester Cathedral exactly like it is in the game? *I only ask because if it isn't then why in the hell are you bringing this up? *Permanently publicly accessible buildings are exempt from copyright from what I've been able to tell from lawyers' reaction to your threats against Insomniac Games.

So if this was a bunny herding game where you're raising and herding cute little bunnies, would the Church of England have given permission for the likeness of the Manchester Cathedral to be used in a game? *I'm sure the right donation about could make it happen (just like here).

I think in that last entry, they're simply implying the word *"financially" before the word "Support". *Insomniac's message was never "guns are good" or "shoot people"

My favorite quote of the Joystiq.com article was this quote "cathedral clergy are also demanding a response from Sony to their request for a donation to their work with young people and the victims of gun crime." *So while the Church of England is complaining about misusing the Church's image, but what I read right there looks remarkably like extortion (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extortion). *Is God okay with that?

Copyright?
COPYRIGHT?

Are you kidding me, Church of England?
No?

*smacks head on desk*

Edit: For the record, I have a hard time giving any respect to a subset of the Christian "religion" which was only founded because Henry the 8th wanted a divorce but the Catholics told him no.

Well you can only kill so many of your wives before it gets old. Maybe I should copyright my house just incase an epic battle for the survival of humanity is fought in its videogame clone.

Lol... Henry the 8th.

This is probably just one tight-assed religious type, who pushed the "pissed-offedness" onto the rest of the, uh, group?

I don't understand why Sony even issued an apology in the first place. If I were in charge I would have sent a letter through registered mail to the head of the Church of England. The letter would say this.

"Dear tight-ass,

/rude

Sincerely,

Sony"

Are we to think the aliens will only destroy strip joints and gun shops?
Shoot... if i were invading earth, that is exactly where i would start. Taking out the rednecks in one swoop.

While you do destroy rednecks, you also destroy strippers, hookers, and all those beautiful M16s...

Do not assume that sacred space interiors are copyright free.

I've never heard of someone copyrighting a building's interior.

Someone's been drinking too much communion wine, methinks.
