View Full Version : Ratchet demo....
Mr Eibmoz 10-12-2007, 03:48 AM Pretty, fun, funny.... I think we may be onto a winner! Ive never actually played a R&C game before other than a quick shot of the PSP one, but this seemed bloody excellent! The one thing I can nitpick at is how things destruct (buildings/bridges), which is really blocky and kind of ugly - other than that though its dang pretty, massive draw distance and 60fps too (I think).
Groovitron has got to be one of the best weapons ever.
Bring it on ^_^
JAcK0R 10-18-2007, 09:55 AM This'll be one of the first games I get when I get a PS3. I truly enjoyed the first 3 games on the PS2. The only one I hated was Deadlocked.
CM Cameron 10-18-2007, 09:13 PM You can't really go wrong with Ratchet & Clank. Insomniac really knows what they're doing and is one of the best developers out there right now. They released one of the best games of 2006 on the launch day of the PS3, and now, less than a year later, they're releasing what is sure to be one of the best games of 2007.
Sony needs to thank their lucky stars that they have Insomniac on their side, because if they didn't, Sony would be in an even worse situation than they are now.
OtherOne 10-21-2007, 04:35 AM The only one I hated was Deadlocked.
oh cmon, deadlocked was actually pretty fun
Anyway, yeah, this new Ratchet game looks amazing - I can actually remember saying to myself that the PS2 hardware is all the ratchet series really needs because of its art-style...I'm kicking myself right now
One nitpick though, I would have preferred the grinding parts move a bit faster - right now it feels as if ratchet is grinding on the rails at a snails pace. With sparks.

As well as a nice metacritic (http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/ps3/ratchetandclankfuturetoolsofdestruction) selection of reviews (some duplicates from the EvilAvatar post):
GamePro - 100
An amazing PS 3 game that fully leverages the power of the console. It sets the bar high for not only the series but for all PS3 games to come. It is, without a doubt, reason enough to buy the system.
GameTap - 100
It's rare that a game critic feels the way I do about this game, but in all honesty, I find it really difficult to find something that's not to like. The controls feel great. The graphics look great. The score sounds great. The weapon selection alone make me want to play the game over and over again, just to test out all the cool offered.
PSM Magazine - 95
Combines absolutely jaw-dropping graphics with familiar platforming/shooting mechanics and genuinely funny humor to make one of the PS3's few true masterpieces. [Dec 2007, p.66]
GamerNode - 95
In Tools of Destruction, Insomniac is back doing what they do best, and they do it better than ever, This is the best Ratchet & Clank adventure to date, and at this point the best game the PS3 has to offer.
IGN - 94
Not only has it supplanted Going Commando as the best title in the franchise, it's also the best game of any series on the PlayStation 3 thus far -- and that's saying a lot when you're up against Oblivion, Ninja Gaiden, Warhawk and Insomniac's very own previous effort, Resistance: Fall of Man.
PSM3 Magazine UK - 93
Intense, beautiful and accessible. A return to the series' roots and a stellar game indeed. [Nov 2007, p.22]
GameZone - 93
Tools of Destruction feels a bit short at times, but that is only when you are just driving through the game, going from point A to point B in the shortest route possible. When you take time to explore, you realize how expansive this game is, and how wonderfully designed.
Gaming Age - 91
It has the beautiful next-gen visuals, new weapons and gadgets and even some well-implemented motion controlled segments, though overall it does nothing out of the ordinary or unexpected. It's an enjoyable, beautiful ride that just seems kind of familiar in the end.
Pro-G - 90
Whether you're a platformer fan or fancy some frenetic blasting action, Tools of Destruction fits the bill. Combine the enjoyable gameplay (that's fun for all ages) with some of the best visuals the PS3 has seen and you have a game that every PS3 owner should own.
GameTrailers - 90
The size and scale of these environments are incredible, with so much little detail going on in the background and no loading time once you've entered a level. It's definitely the best-looking PS3 game on the market.
Games Radar - 90
Ratchet & Clank Future isn't a revolution, but it is a marvelously kickass game that'll keep you entertained for hours as you plumb the depths of its huge levels, find creative ways to blow up its monsters and try to ferret out all its dozens of cleverly hidden items.
Game Almighty - 90
The outstanding combination of tight gameplay and a first-rate presentation make it a great game.
PSX Extreme - 90
This is visually one of the best looking games on the market. And with an engine that's gunning it at 60 frames per second, and capable of 1080i upscaled, R&C Future is also running on one of the best engines, as well. The gameplay is precisely what we've all come to love, except louder, more heated, more energetic, more fun, and with all new gameplay mechanics added to the mix.
1UP - 85
An uninspired story, a glitchy weapon, and a sometimes-unwieldy camera don't damage Ratchet beyond repair. The irresistibly addictive jumping-shooting-collecting-upgrading gameplay is as powerful here as it's ever been, and the optional collectibles, side-missions, and unlockable Challenge mode offer a really satisfying amount of play time.

If it helps, I couldn't find it either... when I looked. When I just went to IGN.com, it was one of their main banner items. I always hate it when you know something's there yet the "search" won't find it.
Chexd 10-24-2007, 07:14 PM Turning them into penguins and then hitting the music and watching them dance has to be the funniest thing ever!
Da1Nonly 10-26-2007, 10:53 PM The demo was amazing! very very solid sixaxis use(unlike lair,)this game i will buy very very soon!!!

I bought it on release day and have been very happy with what I've seen/played so far. The customizing of the weapons is really cool as are the various levels. And the level of humor in the game keeps impressing.
Shane86 10-31-2007, 11:33 AM wow it looks like I might actually buy a third ps3 game when this comes out here  november 9th
rothbart 10-31-2007, 11:35 AM You cannot go wrong with this game. I mean it got the honor of being the first Rothbart's Rave (http://sarcasticgamer.com/wp/index.php/2007/10/rothbarts-rant-43-rave.html)! :D
Shane86 10-31-2007, 11:39 AM wait a minute...you gave positive feedback on a game??? *shudder* :D
