so I was at work couple of days ago and we were talking about the bail out plan. And we came up with an idea. Give every leagel american over the age 18 a part of it . That comes at 297000 after taxes so the government gets their money a lot of people will pay off their houses that will take care of most of the housing crisis people will spend money that creates jobs and the states that have sales tax will get more taxes and people would invest or save some that would help with the banks going under and hopefully with stocks. This of course would never happen but it's a cool idea.

I remember reading something like this on Snopes (http://www.snopes.com/politics/taxes/dividend.asp) recently. While I'd support a "Main Street Bailout Plan" the math is a bit off. Current there are 305,186,613 people in the US with about 200,000,000 of them being over 18 (Give or take a few) With the passed bailout being $700,000,000,000, divided among them would only equal about $3,500. While that is a nice chuck of change (and considering it wouldn't be taxed) it would only be able to put a dent into most loans. Even if the bailout would be a 100 billion more if would only equal about $500 more in your pocket.

It's awesome you discuss important issues like the economy....it's on a lot of our minds isn't it? =)

One problem you'll see with a credit that broad is what people do when they land an unexpected lump sum of money...There are a lot of long term ill effects. Individuals will tend to leave the work force and retire early when they inherit a large sum of money.

That would cause inefficiency in the labor supply.....I don't know a ton about the matter but I do know that the economy is such a vast yet dynamic entity that this crisis we're in is going to be a tough one to shake out.

True capitalism is still the way we need to roll. =)

Well put. If the government were to give everyone 18+ a large sum like $400,000 you know a some people would spend it on gambling, illegal drugs, hookers, and such which neither of the three help the economy (Unless the economy's name is Ashley Dupré (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ashley_Dupr%C3%A9)).

I also don't know a whole lot about Economics but I still feel like I have to think of the silver bullet plan to end the recession. It doesn't really matter though because the idiots in DC are still gonna do something crazy like giving CEO's 700 Billion Dollar Golden Parachutes.

Where did we get the term "Golden Parachutes"? I imagine that a real gold parachute would be pretty impractical and something I wouldn't want.

The first thing they need to do is take DOWN Fanny Mae and Barny Franc. These two companies basically existed to let banks sell them bad debt... at least that's how it's been for the last decade (I suspect longer). THAT is why they fell. So let them.

Now if they can give other banks a shot in the arm (as much as I hate this bailout, Id grudgingly accept it IF it went to giving banks a cash-flow so they could ease up on the credit freeze... pity it's being spend on FREAKING TOY ARROW HEADS!!!!!!) so they can learn to play this new game, I think we will be better off in the long run, and MAYBE be setting us up to be stronger for it.

As it stands, I think they are just ****ing up more.
