A few days ago, I went to Washington D.C for a class field trip. We went to Pentagon City Mall, had a few bucks left, and bought a like $3 playstation 2 game. Now, this game was rated "T" (not "M", "T") and I am thirteen years old. I got to the desk and the guy at the cash register asked "Can I see some I.D.?" This REALLY cought me off guard, and I don't have an I.D. Luckly my friend had an I.D. he had to get when he needed a passport in 2nd grade. While it was still funny to watch the guy figure out his age now from second grade, I couldn't get it out of my head. Now, maybe it was like I'm thirteen but I look twelve, but I am a 6 foot, 150 pound 13 year old. Or maybe this was just a state law I didn't know about. Has this ever happened to you? :undecided:

T for teen means this:

Contains content that is considered unsuitable for children under 13 years of age. Titles in this category may contain violence, suggestive themes, crude humor, minimal blood, simulated gambling, and/or infrequent use of strong language. This rating was used on games rated E10+ when the E10+ rating did not exist. Examples of Teen games include SoulCalibur IV and Homestar Ruiner.

No that's never happened, not sure I was even a teenager when games were rated though. I have been carded for M games before. And yeah, 6' 150 lbs sounds like the perfect description of an akward 13 year old.

Although I have known friends that bought M games without I.D's...my one friend bought Fable, then after he opened the game at home he realized that It was M. They didn't ask, and not even a parent was with him.

You probably only got ID'd because of the people you were with, Sometimes it doesn't matter how old you look Its the people you are with...

I remember Trying to get Ciggarettes and some beer while my parents were shopping in an asda, I had ID.. So I got it out knowing full well I would get ID'd, A woman came over to the checkout I was paying at and asked If my 2 friends also had ID...They weren't actually my Friends they were my step brothers 1 had gone to the toilet and the other was waiting for me, She must have assumed I was going to give it to them, I said "erm They are my step brothers, Ones like 19 and the other is 13 And you want ID from them? Its not for them its for me and my parents are shopping here, SO why do you need their bloody ID?" She refused the sale and I had to walk away without it...

What I'm trying to tell you is sometimes it doesn't matter how old you look the Retailer just wants to cover their own ass:lol:

that does make quite a bit of sense, my other two friends were 13 and 14, one was taller than me, but the other was like a foot and a half shorter than me.

I'm 16, though I look like I'm a bit younger and I managed to buy GTA4 and Halo 3 on the same day without any ID checks (I bought them for my friend with his money. He wanted the games and wanted to see if I'd get in trouble).

I think It might be a state law. I've never had a problem buying an M rated game without a parent. Then again, it might just be a judgment call by the cashier, so I wouldn't feel bad about being "pulled over", as it were.

nope, until very very recently, most English retailers i bought games from never checked ID. And now obviously being 20, that doesn't bother me. Except when im at a pub or something and get asked to show my ID. It's not like i just turned 18! I have been drinking in pubs legally for 2 and 3/4 years now, leave me alone!

what i am wondering is that maybe it might be some sort of state law, because where i like in wisconsin, they don't, but i went to washington d.c and maybe it is different there. do we have any forum members from D.C?

Holy crap, you're like a freaking giant! when I was 13, I was 4'10" and weighed barely 100 pounds. I'm still not 6 feet, and I'm 15! I'm surprised he didn't think you were 21.

You can't get upset at someone for doing their job. I worked at places where I had to ID people for video games and I've worked in restaurants that served liquor. In some situations, you can lose your job for not carding someone. I got IDed when I was 23 for an R rated movie. No big deal. Get an ID. Welcome to the world of overprotective parents and law enforcement.

Speaking of overprotective parents i've been a camp counselor and you should see some of the parents when their kid gets the tiniest little scratch on their forearms. Looks something like this

But, they don't have to ID for T-rated games... When, have they ever had to do that? It's always been M and AO rating (well technically there was a time where it didn't matter, but you get what i mean). Around here (the good ol' gay state of Massachusetts as I call it), for the most part, they'll ask for ID for M-rated games, though there are situations where you can get lucky (sometimes the Gamestop morons label used games wrong... idiots), so normally I need someone older to get an M-rated game for me (I have the 360... it's pretty focused on M-rated games, sue me.) However, never have I ever seen anyone get checked for a T-rated game UNLESS they're like obviously elementary school level and there's no parent around or if there is they warn the parent of the rating. So considering what you looked like, I'd have to assume this person was either stupid and didn't know what he was supposed to do correctly, or D.C. simply has different state laws for this (though "TECHNICALLY" it's not a state).

I haven't gotten ID'd for a T game before but I got ID'd at the Sony Store in San Francisco yesterday. You must be 17 alone to be in there and I am. But it was during school hours you must 18. I was on a field trip to the city and the security guard kicking me and 2 other people out. Sucks for Sony, you lost a fan

Ouch

It hasn't ever happened to me Because I usually order my games from online, or from steam.

But on the rare occasions that i do buy a game from in store, I haven't been asked to show some I.D

What game was it that you tried to buy?

My friend told me he, his 9 yo bro and his mum went into EB Games to buy GTA: San Andreas. When his bro found it and took it to his mum at the counter the guy asked (looking at a 13-yo n 9-yo) "You know this is an MA game?" and she just nodded.
