Writing from me? There must be a good reason - see what I have to say after the jump.Playing games for 24 hours straight is going to be tougher than some people might expect. I haven’t played as much as I’d like to lately, so I’m really looking forward to actually getting some good, hardcore gaming done. Even with that in mind, I suspect that come the 23rd hour I might be getting round to the notion of my bed being a much more attractive place for me to be, than on the battlefield knee deep in noob blood.

It’s okay though, there’s no chance I’ll fail, not just because I’ll have some good games to play and lots of great people to play with, not just because I’ve got the support of my friends and family and not just because of the coffee I.V. I’ll be hooking myself up to. If I falter, if my eyes begin to droop or my focus begins to fade, there is only one thing I need to get through - The thought that however bad I feel at that point, however low I get, it will be nothing compared to what a child and their family go through when cancer “attacks.”

I use the word ‘attacks’ deliberately. When any serious illness strikes, it can be unpleasant, but when it attacks a child, it seems so unexpected, so unfair. Last year when Doc bought Victoria’s plight to the attention of SG, I was really glad to see the community band together so quickly to help out. Doc’s raw emotions on the podcast and the blog, when she sadly passed away in January, was genuinely moving and heartwarming.

The way the community reacted to this situation was a large reason that I knew this was a good place for me to spend my time and the way Doc dealt with it and shared his pain with the community, is the reason he had my friendship for life before he even knew who I was.
The fact that Doc and the rest of the SG staff have taken this to the next level, is not too much of a surprise but it’s still great to see. It’s now, definitely the biggest charity event I’ve been involved with and am grateful for the opportunity to do some good. My only regret is that Doc didn’t check the game release schedule when he was planning this event, a week or so delay would have been perfect. I’d say it would be something to consider for next year but I don’t think I’ll have to - knowing everyone’s ambition and commitment to Extra Life I can see this getting so big that games companies will have to time their releases for when Extra Life takes place.*Don’t miss your chance to say you were there when it all started.

Many games make you believe you are a hero.*It’s time to prove to other people that you are.
