View Full Version : Getting my first 360
Takeo Rey 10-20-2008, 08:29 PM I'm finally caving in and getting my first 360 soon. I'll finally have all three systems and no excuses to play all the great games that each one has to offer. With the holiday bundles out and the price drops, it has made it very attractive to get one this season and I'm thinking of getting the Pro. I was just thinking of buying a cheap hdmi cable instead of going up to the Elite for a bigger HD and a black console.
Now do these bundles have the new chipsets in the 360's? I heard about the Jasper chipset but wasn't sure if it is being used yet. Yeah I've had RROD paranoia as my friend's has red ringed on him four times, but he has an older one. But I'm guessing I shouldn't worry too much now.
I think having all three consoles would be pretty cool. I was thinking of getting Gears 2 and Left 4 Dead soon. There is just too much to play out there to not get in at the current bundles and prices.
Jus Blaze Man02 10-20-2008, 08:31 PM I believe the new chips were placed after Sept.20th before Halo 3. If you get the H3 Console, it has the new chips.
Paladin58 10-20-2008, 08:37 PM Yeah, my H3 console hasn't gone RRoD yet. *knocks on wood furiously*
Takeo Rey 10-20-2008, 09:18 PM 15% Coupon (http://www.logicbuy.com/deals/XBOX-360-Pro-Holiday-Bundle-2008-60GB-plus-2-Games/8814.aspx)
I think this might have just sealed the deal for me...
SpecJoe Magic 10-21-2008, 02:37 AM You are making a good decision. I have all three consoles, and Xbox 360 is my personal favorite. The controller design is the best of any console ever in my opinion. Plus, it has many great games, some of which you can find cheap nowadays, and the online service is excellent. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
A Rabid Moose 10-21-2008, 05:33 AM Get L4D, and WaW, not Gears 2, unless you're a huge gears fan. I think the community will be predominantly playing L4D and WaW.
regua 10-21-2008, 08:43 AM The CPU and GPU are not the causes of the Red Rings, getting a 360 with a newer chipset will not make you RRoD-proof. As far as I know, Microsoft started producing the Jasper 360s without actually telling anyone (http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/30/rumor-xbox-360-packing-65nm-jasper-boards/). You might want to hunt for one of these, but I'd recommend just getting the first one you can see.
DavGxyz 10-21-2008, 08:56 AM I would'nt worry about RROD. You just send it back and get it sorted pretty quickly anyway. I think you should get Gears 2 and COD:WaW.
heavenlyyeti 10-21-2008, 01:40 PM Buy Halo 3!
LOL

LOL
Only if someone pays me... I never liked Halo.
Well I got a call from Dell saying that my 360 is on backorder. I guess a ton of people attacked that sale. I have to wait till at least the 28th now. *sigh*
bigsam656 10-22-2008, 01:01 PM Its a good console and not ALL of them die (I have a launch xbox and it is used heavily but not a single problem yet!) It has a few good exclusives and includes a nice brick should you ever need to break somebody's window.

PERFECT! Fallout 3 drops on that date. :)
And, pick up Fable 2. It is grade-A AMAZING.
Takeo Rey 10-22-2008, 04:41 PM Dell sure as hell has something screwy with their customer service because I had this waiting for me when I got home this morning...

Either way... Whoo hoo!
Rikho 10-23-2008, 10:57 AM Gratz on owning your first 360.
And worry not about RROD, as long as you take good care of your white box, you shouldn't have any problem. Remember, it needs space, don't put it near any heat source, separate the alimentation and the console, you should be fine.
I for one have owned 3 360s, none is dead. My first one is 3 years old, has had one or two RROD, but still works fine (have to talk to it gently to be sure she won't dislike you)
Another thing, you can check on the alimentation, and see if it's à 175W. If it is, good news, you just got yourself a falcon chipset, RROD free (so they say). If not, it should say 203W... And then, it's like "are you feeling lucky ?"
Anyway, you should enjoy your good games. Have a nice playtime.
multiman33 10-23-2008, 11:12 AM I have all three systems in my house and would say I play the 360 the most by far. The Wii pretty much catches dust and the PS3 might get played a little due to LBP, but the 360 is going to be the big holiday winner for me. Fallout 3 would be what I would recommend for picking up. WaW, the more I read and hear about it, the more I want it. Happy gaming
