Ok so I preordered Fable 2 in early July, and went to Gamestop today to pick up my copy. The guy opened the reserve cabinet and tried to look for my Limited Edition copy. It turns out they didn't have my copy. So the manager says "o well, we were short one" and rip the label off of someone elses copy and says "o well since you came here first you get this guys copy." What I want to know is why the hell were they short, why do hey think its frist come, first serve with the preorders. O well I hope the guy's whose copy I have dosen't go on a rampage, but don't you guys think thats a crappy way to do business.

yeah, all i can think is that the delivery was short, or maybe one of the staff was like "Fable 2 mine!"...

and with the first come first serve... would you of been happy if they'd of said no sorry its yours thats not here... even though you took the effort to come in before the random guy.... yeah it sucks for the random guy.... and yeah its a crappy way to do business.... but hey.... c'est la vie...

That is why I don't even bother preordering games. I have never had a problem finding a copy when I wanted it.

Oh, hopefully the same won't go with my Gears of War 2 preorder. That's just cold and heartless.Well they'll hardly sell it to a 13 year old anyway :D

All stores are stocked according to the stores location. Rarely is a store stocked based on how many pre orders come through. A majority of a time, a Store always falls short on copies when compared to how many pre orders are registered at the store. That's where the first come, first serve issue comes into play. Even if you do pre order, it doesn't always guarantee you a copy of the game. The Store could of taken 200 pre orders for example but was only sent 100 copies of the game. 50 standard editions & 50 limited editions. I never had a problem arriving from work to Gamestop & getting my copy of a pre order game. That's mostly due to the fact that the GS I go to is in a really bad neighborhood & I'm known around there. So easy for me to walk right in & get my copy =).

Consoles are different though as when a new one is released, that store is packed just like any other store. Pre Ordering also helps here as they will split the line of Pre Ordering consumers people looking to just buy it. People wanting to buy it usually get screwed, Don't know why they even show up =P. Paying the actual game in full during your pre order guarantees that your copy will be there. A $5 - $10 Pre Order is nothing. Pay in full & you should never have an issue.

our store gets games stocked 100% based on pre-orders. we had 6 extra copies of fable 2 (to show people that hey should pre-order the games they want) after the pre-orders. we'll get a huge shipment of them next week though.

to the OP, the only thing i could think of is their delivery was short one (if there were a ton of fable pre-orders, it's possible shipping missed one). none of the regular employees have access to the reservation drawer as it's supposed to always be locked. i would assume that shipping missed a copy of the game.

but now that i think about it... we don't put peoples' names on individual games... we just have the same amount in our pre-order drawer as we need. i've never heard of a gamestop keeping a specific copy for certain people.

I don't really understand why but for SSBB my name was on either the cover or the spine can't remember, but it wasn't that way when I picked up GTA 4.
