Everytime I hear about Galaxy, I am subjected to how everyone thought Sunshine was crap.

In my mind I go "Whoah, whoah, Sunshine was bad?"

I mean, sure, it didn't completely redefine and revoutionize the 3D platformer genre like 64 did, but it wasn't by any means a bad game. It had improved controls, GORGEOUS environments, and some pretty damn good graphics for a GC game. Yet all I ever hear is how much a disappointment it was.

Am I the only person who actually liked Sunshine?

I really loved playing Sunshine. So much so that I've played through it two or three times now. Mario platforming games are by far my favorite games, Mario 64 being my favorite of all time.

I think the reason Sunshine has gotten so much crap is because it wasn't nearly as good as Mario 64, but in my opinion, nothing ever will be as revolutionary as that game. I think the biggest gripe people have is with the FLUDD. It made the game a lot easier and tedious with all of that cleaning up, but it made those crazy retro block levels so much more exciting and difficult when they took FLUDD away from you. Like I said, I loved Sunshine and I think it has taken too much crap because it wasn't as revolutionary as Mario 64.

I actually enjoyed Mario Sunshine's gameplay. The only things I didn't like were the game's title (the "Sunshine" part sounds kind of dorky if you ask me) and Bowser Jr. I hate that pathetic excuse for a minion.

I hated the overworld for Sunshine, but I loved the levels themself. Wasnt as good as 64 though.

Sunshine was a class game, not sure why people would hate it, granted it was not as good as Mario 64, but it was well made, and looked great.

No, my bro liked it but he had the chance to play an N64 and I didn't but there is only 1 game i would play on there other than Mario 64, Ocarina of Time. After I read about Sunshine I thought that it wasn't gonna be as good as mario 64 and i thought when it was reviewed that it was total crap cos all you do is clean goop! wtf does that? its a crappy idea and thats what drew me away from it. im looking foward to galaxy but i dont want to play it because of the wii's controls. it makes it even harder.

Sunshine was not good at all. I like the classic Supa Mario Bros. better than that.

I enjoyed Sunshine, when I heard people saying it was crap I also thought "whoa whoa Sunshine was bad?". I mean it may have not been the greatest mario game but it definetly wasn't the worst (the worst mario game was probably hotel mario).

Hotel Mario? bah!

I refuse acknowledge any games that came out of the CD-i era

Burn Cycle, Mystic Midway and Escape From Cyber City were grand!

I don't think that Sunshine was necessarily bad, but people wanted a classic Mario adventure and the game was a far stretch from that... I thoroughly enjoyed the game and consider it one of the best games I played on the Gamecube, but compared to other Mario games it falls to the back of the pack...

I thought Sunshine was pretty good. There were some things I found tedious and it took me awhile to get used to the controls, but other than that...I thought a decent game. That being said, I never played Mario for N64. I went from SMB 3 to Sunshine. The one other gamer friend I had at the time didn't like it the N64 version. As graphics improved, she started saying the same about every game. I realized she was getting nauseaous at the 3D aspect.

I don't game with her anymore :)

Most people might think its bad since Mario 64 was so revolutionary that the expectations were abit too high for Mario Sunshine. I have to admit that I myself have not played it but considering how much Mario games changed over the next sequals there might not have been as much change in between Mario 64 & Mario Sunshine.

Looking back to when I first played Super Mario Bros. for the NES I was blown away, a couple of years go by to find myself standing before Super Mario Bros. 3 to be even more amazed that my brain could explode. Eagerly awaiting the N64 for christmas I couldn't help but to play the next Mario and see how it could possibly top off SMB 3.

I don't own a GC but since I have my Wii ill be looking forward to buying Mario Sunshine regardless of the fact that Mario Galaxy was just released. I already know that both of these games will be fun, cause by far Mario hasn't failed in entertaining me in my whole life yet, and im sure as hell not expecting to be dissapointed anytime soon.

I don't think sunshine was bad...
It was just worse than 64.

Sunshine had to be one of the best games on wii, it was what i wanted from a game at the time which was being fun, annoying, reasonably long, and maybe a little difficult.
Im not going to say it was better than mario:64 because it wasnt but it was literally the same good ol' mario with a super soaking water gun thing lol.

Anything with mario in the name, and is retro, was fun, at the time. Now its kinda crappy. But when the mario series were released on NES and SNES, it was kick ass.

I've said it before, I'll say it again.

Super Mario Brothers = Mario 64

Genre changing, and extremely fun, but dated.

SMB2 = Mario Sunshine

Decided to switch up the gameplay, people got pissed, but it's still a great game.

SMB3 = Mario Galaxy

Awesomeness in its purest form.

Hmm, you know whats weird? I beat SMB and Mario 64. I never played SMB 2 or Super Mario Sunshine. And I beat Super Mario Galaxy and SMB 3 this month. Just thought that was sorta strange.

I disliked Mario 64. To be honest I disliked -most- Mario games. There have only been two that I haven't minded, and one of those two happens to be Super Mario Sunshine. I found the game concept interesting, and it was nice and long (always a bonus!).

Sunshine was great, just not as good as 64. 3rd best game on GC (Metroid Prime and SSBM being 1 and 2)
