Hi im 14. I love airsofting with my friends. But I always have to borrow one of their guns(preferably a sniper)because my dad wont buy me one. He thinks they are deadly killing machines. Does anyone know how I might convince him theyre not besides showing him evidence(he wont look at my all the evidence I give him saying theyre safe)

Well, if you wear eye protection, and something to keep the rounds from going down your throat or in your ears, then there's virtually no danger. Maybe a ski mask and shooting goggles? Just tell him it's fun as hell and it's good, masculine, physical activity. It builds character.

First of all you may want to look into purchasing something like this:
http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?products_id=3136

Be sure to use your own money to buy it. This will go a long way in convincing him that you are mature enough to handle airsofting. Because honestly that's the only angle you really have to come from.

Lets me just say something upfront. Airsofting is a dangerous activity and sooner or later you or someone you are with will end up getting hurt. Airsoft guns are really only dangerous when they are in the hands of an idiot. By the sounds of it you father seems like a good guy, and honestly if he is this worried about your safety then he's clearly not an idiot and hasn't raised you as one either.

So who is he worried about? Your idiot friends who have possibly more dangerous guns in their hands. I myself have participated in many backyard rounds of airsofting with some pretty stupid guys. It took a lot of trouble trying to keep them in control with their weapons. Honestly I just got fed up with almost losing my eye every weekend because of my friend's stupid friends. However the many hours I did spend fighting were fun as hell. Obviously you want to have that same fun. So here is how i think you should make it happen.

In order to get your dad to let you buy a gun you've got to understand everything I just said and then ignore it (or twist into a better light). Your Dad knows that airsoft guns are dangerous. Its no use trying to convince him otherwise (trust me., ive tried) what you have to do is tell him that you understand the dangers that come with it and that you are mature enough to handle it. Read up with him on proper gun handling and safety techniques.

Then tell him that the guys you are fighting with are also aware of all of this techniques. If you want explain to him a phony set of rules that you all operate by. Even though it is good to have a basic set of rules in a fight. Or actually completely neccessary.

DOn't convince your dad they're not dangerous. Convince him you can handle them.

I think he doesnt like the idea of me being an exellent airsoft sniper. Sorry about the bragging

Unless your pushing 500fps with a .25 or .3 there ain't no chance of being "an exellent airsoft sniper". And with a borrowed rifle, I doubt that

There is no way in hell you will convince your Dad that they are safe. I game about 3 times a month with about 20 other guys on Airsoft site in North Wales. I've already lost a tooth from gaming and have some lovely markings from some hot guns. On the other hand keeping your mouth closed will protect your teeth, you should never, ever be firing one without eye protection so the worst injury that you can walk away with from the rifle is going to be a few welts

Don't buy an overpowered gun. No one else will want to play with you if you do. I know this, because when playing with your pistols against your friend's fully automatic m16 isn't fun.

Nothing is "safe: on the right hands.

Just because you don't show people in the face or your friends don't shoot you in that way, it does not mean someone out there won't.

I think the best way for you to get 1 is to save up $ and buy it yourself.

I think your dad is right. There are stupid people out there, like my friend Segasoap, who will shoot you form very close range. I had a killer bruise on my chest for a few months because my friend wanted to shoot me from a few feet in front of me.

If your still not convinced, do what dj said up there and save the cash up yourself.

Were something with a high collar because even from long range a shot to the neck hurts like hell. Note I only have a resident evil branded pistol

You could try what my friends tried, start out with asking for a pistol, then move up to the bigger guns.

You sound like a young kid. Most game sites don't allow under 18 unless they have an adult with them. Ask your father to attend a few matches/skirmishes with you tagging along, and if that actually goes well then you are on the path to him letting your purchase an Airsoft rifle.

But, overall your father is right. You said you're playing in your friends backyard which is fun and all, however, you have to realize that you are playing around with 1:1 approximations of assault weapons and deadly baby killing black rifles. Numerous people have been mistakenly shot by LEO's (Law Enforcement Official) for waving around Airsoft weapons. Hell, I've known situations where a group of people have had a SWAT team called in by worried neighbors. It's a very good reason that minors are not allowed to purchase Airsoft, for your own safety.

Ditch the ski goggles, you need something that's actually rated for impacts, not to keep the snow out of your eyes. You're just one misplaced shot away from having shards of plastic destroying one of your eyes.

A full face Paintball mask does the trick

A full face paintball mask will definitely do the trick. The lenses are rated for impact speeds far greater than what an Airsoft BB can usually deliver (unless it's a .3 fired from a completely tweaked out rifle).

Full face masks also serve to protect your teeth from repeated impacts, along with the rest of your face. Taking a .2 within 20 feet from a 330fps rifle isn't fun, and can cause some costly dental work needing to be done.

You guys seem to be talking about really high grade guns,I usually play with a 30-40 pistol and single shot rifle rifle. We just wear ski goggles, and we're fine.

Then my advice is... don't purchase two games for this holiday season and put that $120 into purchasing a Jing Gong or Echo 1 airsoft rifle. Cheapest you can go without moving into the high grade items without sacrificing reliability or functionality.

www.pointact.com :For the cheapest prices you can find anywhere regarding airsoft outside of Hong Kong.

www.kastwayairsoft.com : Rick and Aaron are dedicated people, I highly recommend them for anything having to do with airsoft. Oklahoma players are almost always acquainted with these guys. Fantastic service, and they order any parts you need that they don't carry.

I keep a break barrel .177 hunting pellet rifle for taking care of varmints in the yard, (gophers, raccoons, etc.) marksman training and possible burglars.

It's a Remington Genesis wi. Crossman Destroyer .177 hollowpoints.

No license or permit required, and can still easily kill a man if the shot is properly placed.

(Of course, they aren't supposed to be used within city limits).

My Toys :D

Glock 19, Metal Slide meaning I can use Green Gas through it, nice blow back action but I can only use it in winter. Green Gas in summer puts it way over the UK site limits
http://img397.imageshack.us/img397/2494/glockco9.jpg (http://img397.imageshack.us/my.php?image=glockco9.jpg)

My main rifle, TM AK47 with a foregrip RIS system installed with a verticle grip and laser pointer. I also have a sight mount but it's to the side in that shot. Custom silencer that I made for myself on a CnC machine. Fires at about 600rpm, which is why there's 4 600 round mags there ;). Tweaked the innards a bit but due to UK legal limits, it's not super powerful
http://img160.imageshack.us/img160/1617/akdb0.jpg (http://img160.imageshack.us/my.php?image=akdb0.jpg)

Matching TM M9 Biohazards from the Biohazard series of guns. I keep these in mathching drop leg holsters. One of them has the mag release switch round so I can duel wield them, drop the mags and reload both at the same time

Swith and wesson shooting glasses, they are rated to be hit with a .22 bullet.

I don't want this thread to die So let me tell you guys how bad my gun is.
My gun is so bad I shot myself in the leg at point blank and it didn't even welt.
The pelets that came with the gun are so bad that they shatter into sharp pieces.
