and a couple different places and people said things like "wow! Bethesda didn't mess it up!" I'm not sure if i missed something but is there some kind of stigma on them? Personally i haven't played a game by them i didn't like.

I think that the reviews are generally referring to the move of the fallout series into an "oblivion" like open world game.
Many Bethesda fans were worried that it wouldn't feel like fallout, but as stated...they didn't mess it up =)

yeh i agree but any game made by bethesda is not going to be terrible.

Compared to the original fallout's this game is just not right it has many elements that made the fallout's great missing or just broken. In my opinion this game is great, but it should not be called Fallout, and many people who love Fallout 1/2 will tend to say this game should be considered non-canon.
