Well, turns out I was right, a preorder got the game a day early from my gamestop.

Popped it in... hardly anyone else is playing right now, but luckily, I have a few friends who already have it. Already summed it up to Chewy, and I'll say it here:

HOOOOOLY !!!!!****** Wow wow wow, INTENSE!

Played by myself on the first map on veteran, and I was getting my arse handed to me on a silver platter. Jumped into a co-op game on Veteran, and Holy smokes does this game shine. The gameplay is very very intense, dodging bullets, calling for a buddy to come revive me, lots and lots of firefights.

More to come as I play through, lonesome.

Anyone else have it right now? Send a request and I'll get you into a game since it's dead barren right now.

I'm on the first Russian level and I can't for the life of me take down that ****ing sniper. It doesn't help that
1) he knows where I am all the time... even when I move while he's hidden
2) he never misses. The only way that bullets don't hit me is that I'm hiding behind something while he's shooting at me
3) He doesn't need any time to set up. He just turns and shoots... And the split second I need to hold me breath long enough to get a clear shot, I'm dead
4) He doesn't die in one shot... I shot the guy clear in the chest, and yet he lived. WTF?
5) I die in one shot. No matter where he hits me, it's a one hit kill...

This is complete bullshit...

That's why you gotta play Co-op, cause the enemies have magic bullets in SP.

AAAARGH!!!! Okay, so I was doing the Co-op in hopes of unlocking the zombie mode.

Welllll... big snag there. On the loading screen for the last mission, those little helpful messages told me that I have to complete the SOLO campaign for it. Stupid f'in argh grumble grrr...

Compared to CoD4's campaign on Veteran SP, it's about 10x harder. Basically "No Fighting in the War Room" across the entire game. Paired with enemies who have magic bullets that can hit through rocks and kill you instantly, it's a very aggravating experience. But it definitely feels intense, incredibly intense.

Biggest advice I can give right now if you're going through on veteran... is to try and let your squadmates do all the work since they are apparently issued Class III body armor. That and use a long rage rifle to stop the MG nests before they can hit you, and use every single bit of cover that you can. That's for veteran, on Recruit or lower... just run around with a bayonet.

pace = perfect. i was surprised to find out that i have actually been having more fun during the russian missions. the mission where you are a sniper is good (except the part where you have to shoot the other sniper... that sucked balls)... i LOVED the part where you're in the burning house... that was INTENSE.

The pace, it's definitely fast, and it doesn't really let up except for a few moments where you need to regroup with your squad.

I can see why they don't let you unlock zombie mode with Co-op, if you do co-op only, you haven't really finished the campaign. I decided to run through Single Player to unlock and I'm playing on recruit. Must say, that there is definitely a challenge even on the easiest level. Few of the stages go by quickly, others are a tough cookie. I can't even begin to imagine some of these levels with a Solo Veteran runthrough.

I'm loving this game so far, I loooove melting people with a flamethrower. There's even an achievement for making it through a level using only the trusty M-2 flamethrower.

But, it's getting late, I have three stages left before I unlock the damn zombie mode, and I running out of time to actually do my job. So I'll unlock it when I wake up.

Well, I have officially unlocked Nazi Zombies :D Highest wave is 6, gets really damn tough without having people to back you up. But it's fun, really good fun.

I also restarted my Veteran run, however I've ran into a really really stupid f'in glitch on Semper Fi. After the clearing ambush, and I'm supposed to get a truck down the hill, however it has glitched for me. Not all the required people are there to have it progress, first time Sullivan never appeared, the guy just disappeared completely. Second time, Sullivan made it, I got to puncture the barrel, but Roebuck has now disappeared. Third time they all made it there but no one ever started the truck.

Best that I can surmise, is that in the ambush area, there is a japanese soldier who is playing dead on a log. In the co-op missions he activated and went to stab someone, but he's not moving this time around. Going to try and work around this, since I've restarted Semper Fi more times than I would care to.

apparently there was a patch that was just released today... maybe it has a fix for that problem?

The Beezs
11-12-2008, 04:54 AM
Wow, played Nazi Zombies for four hours straight with a group of friends tonight. Highest we managed to get to was wave 10 before they completely over ran us. I don't see how in the world the Treyarch team managed to make it all the way to 23. There's just waaay, waaaay too many zombies to even kill with perfect headshots. Me and my group unlocked the top floor, we have two people watching the stairs, and two watching the windows in the back room. All loaded up with BAR's, so zombies go down pretty quickly. But oh man oh man is it nerve racking but loads of fun.

Today, matchmaking had a weird glitch, where the hardcore selections were all regular selections which stunk quite a bit.

The patch that was released wasn't for the 360, it had an auto update on day one, so if it was supposed to fix that weird glitch of mine, it didn't do a thing.

no way... i know it's on the COD4 engine, but to me it doesn't feel like it at ALL. it feels like a completely new WW2 shooter (and undoubtedly the best *SP campaign*)... if you go into it thinking, "this is just going to be a COD4 expansion" and don't give it a chance then you might not be able to get it out of your head. i dunno, maybe i'm the only one, but it doesn't feel like COD4 at all to me.

The Beezs

At least one person in your party needs to beat the game. It's how friends and I have been playing it since I'm the only one of us so far to beat it.

Today, we maxed out at level 16 with some very very lucky picks from the random weapon crate. We ended up with FG42's, Ray Gun's, and Browning .50 cal's to kill them with. We didn't bother with the curved staircase, instead opting to unlock the random crate when we each had around 2000 points. After using the random crate to "hopefully" get some better weapons (for some reason I end up with the ray gun quite a bit :D ), we unlocked the upstairs from the random crate room. Then it's just a matter with the person who has the most powerful weapon to watch the stairs and the other three each has a window to watch and barricade.

Each time, we get further and further along, and it has a few people saying goodbye to L4D.

I think that might be the difference here, for the consoles the option to play Nazi Zombies on Nocht der something, is locked until someone completes the Solo Campaign.

The one who unlocked it is able to host for the others to play. So yeah, I do believe since you're on the PC, that the rules regarding the ability to play it could very well be different.

Still doesn't take away from the awesomeness of it all. Left 4 Dead and Nazi Zombies are really quite the different games. From the demo, L4D feels more open and the enemies die quicker, Nazi Zombies is about the slow ramp to impossible.

Jeez, last game we played we maxed out on 16, and the only reason for that was we got incredibly lucky and a few of us managed to nab raygun's and there were a few more Max Ammo drops and Zombie nukes saved our rear ends more than once. Although I kept wishing for a few more Insta-Kill powerups when I had to guard the stairs with the Browning.

18, geez, I could barely survive until 16, can't imagine 18. And what about later on, I've heard that some people have made it all the way to 27. What a feat.

Okay my impressions...

STORY MODE
Game play is pretty much what I was expecting, but I really don't like the obvious trigger points that the game has. You can spend one hour in the same spot mowing down at a never ending supply of enemy. All the sounds are sweet, the graphics are really cool and as a graphic designer I LOVE the eye candy of the intro and cut scenes with all the motion graphics. Very well done.

Being an Australian and having an uncle who served in a war and now runs tours of The Australian War Memorial, I have learnt a lot about the fights in the Pacific about both sides. It plays out just as I have imagined it too, the aggressiveness of the Japanese and the dense landscape that the fights were in.

I am guessing I am under half way through the story mode and am looking forward to playing the rest of the game.

ONLINE
I was expecting a COD4 experience online... yeah, they are pretty much the same just reskinned in the older style. But the more I play the more I see the differences. The main thing is the weapons. I feel that they are not as fast to load, not as accurate and they don't feel as modern... which is so spot on!! I am finding the online games a little frustrating at the moment as I am trying to get used to that. The early access guns don't have the range as the guns in COD4 so it is teaching you to be a little more accurate, a little more stealthy and conservative with your shots.

SUMMARY
I was very excited to get this game, I have never played a game like I have COD4 and will have to say that COD4 is the best game that I have ever played... period. (And I started playing games when I was 8 on a sega master system 1... I am now 27). At the moment, I don't think that COD5 will get up there as I feel I will play this game a bit but eventually go back to COD4 for my FPS fix.

But to all the people that doubted treyarchs ability to deliver.. they did in a big way. They have made the BEST WWII first person shooter in my opinion and thats what they had to play with. I am sure if it was another modern warfare game, they would have killed COD4.

I want this game and my friends already have it but have heard so many mixed reviews and that the online mode is riddled with errors and freezing peoples PS3 that I am hesitant. I have tried to rent it and check it out but none of the places around here have gotten it in yet. Anyways, I guess teh verdict is out, I will play COD4 in the meantime.

How is the Sniper level? Is it like All Ghillied Up/One Shot, One Kill in which you have to measure the wind speed, the distance from you and the target, the day of the week and the target's mother's birthday to pull off the shot or is it just point and click?

okay i just tried zombie mode... and I'm impressed, granted i played by myself and got to level 9.

I was also surprised at how hard it is to compare with horde mode... horde mode definatly starts out faster but i think this could get waaaaay better than horde... cause horde just repeats every 10 levels with increased strength enemies (got to level 18 in that with just one friend), but this you gotta buy guns and ammo... as well as access to better defendable parts of the house. Try it by yourself it get's pretty intense

I'm glad they included this game mode, i say it right now... i like it better than horde

That sniper is such a pain. I beat him a couple times last night on veteran, but I restarted the mission because I was discovered by the passing convoy shortly after. The single player is rather challenging, those last three levels are a bitch. I don't ike the enemy spawns in this game. The COD4 spawn system worked well because only a few parts required you to move but in COD:WAW if you stop to reload you basicly haveto restart the fight again.

I just played the first 2.5 levels of Campaign. I like the cutscenes in between missions, the levels are well made, I die a lot because of grenades.

Oh, and talk about <insert overused catchphrase here>. I love it when the Bonsais jump out and try to stab you, because you do that awesome move where he pins you, you roll to avoid his bayonet, and then stab him in the side of the head. I love it.

Heres my full thoughts on the game. Or atleast it would be if I was a decent writer and I thought some one would actually give-a-damn.

Single player: Really intense but enemy spawns and a bit annoying. The levels are too long for my liking.

Co-op: makes the SP loads of fun with the right people.

Split-Screen co-op: They must have been pretty high at Treyarch because I'am pretty sure they forgot most of the screen part.

Multiplayer split-screen: Has two "full screens" (50% each) but the lack of create-a-class is still there.

Zombie mode: Was good target practice but overall I found it rather boring.

Multiplayer:The only reason I have not already swapped it for gears2

Zombie mode is the best online mode in a game ever:lol:
I just wish you could skip to wave 5 as the first 4 are very slow, Only managed to get to wave 10 so far but I love it... Its very amusing playing with 3 friends, Watching them panic as they shout obscenities down the mic and call for a medic every 10 seconds:lol:

I also managed to complete solo campaign today(Only had it since friday), I have to say that i think the Campaign is alot better than COD 4's Campaign...

Overall, This is definitely one of the best games I've played... Its getting more playtime from me at the moment than LBP, Fallout 3, Far Cry 2 and any of the other games I own are....

Single Player: It's good, but I wouldn't play it by choice.

Co-op: It's pretty fun, but not tactical. The death cards are fun to play with, like the one in which you shoot an ally to revive him. "I'm down, someone shoot me!"

Zombie Mode: Good fun. Similar to Horde in Gears, this Game Type is great, and requires a lot of communication and teamwork to make it past round 14-15.

Multiplayer: In my opinion, as solid as CoD4's was. It is made better with the addition of Dogs and the fact that I'm mildly decent at it.

I have just barely touched the surface of the single player campaign, however from what I have seen I really like it.

Although the online "multi-player" aspect I find MUCH worse then COD4, the sound completely lacks and it is difficult to see "enemies" since the range of colors doesn't vary much. This might change when you get use to each map. The dogs are annoying, if called on you, but great if you call them. Personally I would just rather play COD4 online, which is why I am glad I only rented W@W and will return it after I finish the single player campaign.

Nope, still working my way through the hardened mode. I got distracted by the multiplayer for a while. Been having tons of fun on FFA... which is odd because I never liked that mode on COD4...
I must be pissing a lot of people off though because my load-out is
MP40
Tabun gas x3
Juggernaut
Steady Aim

I think my best record so far is 29-4

Only thing that I think would make FFA better is count deaths against you. There's been a few matches where I had 25-4 game, but still lost just soley on kills. The guy above me went 29-16... Oh well. Just teaches me to be fast and deadly at the same time.

It's really satisfying to take out two guys that were duking it out, or to steal a kill from a dog...
Using enemy dogs to your advantage is fun :)
Flushes out the other guys for you to kill.

I still have not re-adjusted to the pace of the game, my best is 22-11

Hardcore War on Outskirts, I camped the church tower for the first part of the game, then I just ran around for the second part stopping the enemy from grabbing the flag. I ended up 45-4. Chewy had a similar run on one of the levels in Hardcore. Just seems... easier than in CoD4.

I don't like Outskirts. It seemed fun at first, with all the levels of the village and stuff, but the map is too big. You end up having to find people, which is close to impossible on Hardcore.

Am I the only person here that plays games on the easiest difficulty? I dunno why but I prefer to go through lots of levels in a short space of time and I don't enjoy the challenge of the very hard modes. Anyways, yeah, it's probably just me but do you all start at the top difficulty right from the start?

I play all my games on hardened if there is that option or medium, i only play COD games on veteran since i have completed all the others on veteran and find them quite easy.

I regret buying this garbage. World War 2 is so lame. GoW2 is so much more fun.

Way to back up your claim with reasons!

Seriously, don't post this shit if you have nothing to say as to why you don't like this game.

Perhaps you just suck at this kind of game?

Way to be a dickhead!

Also, I could probably own your ass. Sorry my opinion doesn't match yours and made your pussy hurt.

Well, you really didn't offer anything to back up what you said initially. I'm returning Gears 2 today for L4D because Gears 2 was too slow paced for me, and very few customization options. And CoD:WaW's online works, too!

Thank you Mr. Moose. See? If you have a reason why you don't like the game... then I'll respect your opinion to as much as I'm required to

I don't see how WWII is lame. The campaign was a lot more intense in WaW than in MW. Some of the places are painfully obviously scripted, but it's forgivable.

Just unlocked the .357 Magnum for my own personal use. Hot damn if it isn't some sort of wonder gun. It's a one shot kill for HC (like many other guns), but I feel like so much more of a badass with it. It is a sniper rifle that can fit into my pants

I don't even care what I'm using for a primary anymore, the Magnum is just pure awesome. Second match I had it, I went 32-5 using only the .357 and I guess it really just pissed off some french guy. Came back to the lobby only to be met with a loud flurry of gibberish (I say gibberish since I don't speak french). I guess it's kinda embarassing knowing that you got picked off by a handgun from across the map

Awesome chart. Thanks. I also agree the SVT-40 is a very effective gun.
