Love the train, but my favorite part is when he first busts on to the scene, cuts a dude in half after sticking another with a grenade.

Also, the first time I used the VATS system to through a grenade at a super mutant in Fallout 3, and watching him explode with little health left. Yeah, that was satisfying. That spot on my couch will never be the same.

Mine had to have been in Gears 2 cutting the worms heart out and the chamber filling with blood. Very Cool

I think some of the coolest moments were in Left 4 Dead, the first time you encounter each "special infected" is terrifying and awesome, particularly the tank and the witch. It's amazing the first time you play with certain friends, and you're like "Run, a tank's coming!" and then they respond with, "What's a t- HOLY SHIT!"

Tie for best moment of the games of autumn is the one Shane86 posted =] CAN'T STOP THE TRAIN, BABY!

1) When Cole cusses out the locust queen.
2) Charging 6 super mutant brutes with a sledgehammer.

It has to be in Left 4 Dead when my friend and I were playing the Rooftop Finale on No Mercy when my friend turned around, screamed like a girl, then got punched off the roof. Or "saving the day" as I call it with a Molotov on killing myself.

Shane, this thread should have been locked after your post. Curse you.

The setup: Playing L4D with A Rabid Moose and Toshi against a team that didn't seem to be communicating too well. During the rooftop finale, three of us spawning on the rooftop immediately, and waiting, while our Boomer assaulted the straggler who was camping the safe room. First head up the ladder-*zip* snatched by the Smoker. Number two-*pow* sacked by Hunter #1. Item C: *smaaaaash* grounded for good by Hunter #2. Round over.

The moment: Our team as survivors, encounter no opposition on the way up, expect the same greeting we just provided. As the first two reach the opening, we watch both Hunters fly by, not making any contact, and one sailing off the roof to his death. We survived the finale, and made it onto the chopper...all except Moose, who was punched off the roof by a Tank. ::Bows head:: Let us have a moment of silence for our brother Moose.

Final score: SG Crew - 3550, other guys - 344 (and no, I didn't leave off a zero). Communication and teamwork, what a concept.

Every second of my 6 hour l4d marathon at a mates house.

The stunned silence after I left the ending saferoom to help the downed teammate who had been bitching at me the whole game.

Admittedly, there are still a lot of 2008 releases that I haven't gotten around to yet, but I was particularly enthralled with the first gameplay section of Dead Space where this happens:

A necromorph is seen for the first time and kills a couple of crew members while Hammond and Daniels barely escape. Then it turns and chases after the player. I remember the intensity of being chased down that hallway, not having any way to defend myself and escaping into the elevator only to have the necromorph pry open the elevator doors momentarily until the doors closed on it and cut off its limbs. The next room features the ominous message written in blood that says "cut off their limbs", and I could hear someone screaming for help as a I picked up the plasma cutter. That portion of gameplay set the right tone for the game, and I was hooked from then on. It's one of the best moments I've ever experienced in gaming.

I think it would have to be completing an assasination mission in Far Cry 2 by burning down an entire village. I remember standing on top of a nearby hill while the fires raged out of control below me, watching the ammo dumps and explosives cook off in to the night air like fireworks. Cars detonated one after another, gunning down the few enemies who escaped the flames as the ran in panic towards me....

...and every single part of it unscripted. It can't manage it consistently (no game could), but now and then Far Cry 2 can pull out of it's bag unscripted events that put even CoD 4 carefully planned levels to shame.

For some reason, these events frequently involve fire. :)

Liberty Prime from Fallout 3.

So many great one liners, nuclear footballs, and Michael Dorn voicing.

For me it would have to be playing versus in left4dead, on the rooftops of the hospital as a smoker... all the survivors but one were in the chopper, and from halfway across the map i manage to grab the last survivor just as he's about to get into the helicopter eliminating all hope of his escape ... :)

such an enjoyable game!

I'd go with the opposite- almost losing two of your team members to a Tank, then leaping into the chopper at the last minute.

I so agree. That game was one hell of an experience. Every bit of it felt real.

Going on a 10 game winning streak against my friends in FIFA 09 right after its release. I made sure they got plenty of emails at work reminding them I was undefeated.

The first time you see the first Super Mutant Behemoth on fallout.

"Jesus Christ, he's got a fire hydrant!! GET BACK IN THE CAR!!!"

Also, the stairway battle in chapter 10 of Ninja Gaiden 2. Epic.
