View Full Version : the Twilight movie: thoughts?
heavenlyyeti 11-29-2008, 03:25 PM what did you guys think of the Twilight movie? And if you only came in here to bash (which I know most of you did), then get out.
I personally liked it. I thought that the book was better, as it normally is, but that's not to say that this was another "Eragon" movie. *shudder*
It was actually pretty good. 6/10.
P.S.
For all you insecure folks out there: do a little research before you condemn a "chick flick".
AlmightyEmperor 11-29-2008, 03:29 PM I thought it was pretty bad but not for the reason's you are thinking. I read the book which was okay but not really for me. I watched the movie and I thought that they could have done a lot better. It could have been a really good movie but it seemed rushed.
Tobitron 11-29-2008, 03:31 PM Meh, don't plan to. Haven't even heard of this movie until I saw it on the American newscasts. Seems boring. Isn't about a girl falling in love with a vampire?
Little J4 11-29-2008, 03:46 PM Meh, don't plan to. Haven't even heard of this movie until I saw it on the American newscasts. Seems boring. Isn't about a girl falling in love with a vampire?
yea, its based on the book twilight which is mainly a girl book.
Millakilla 11-29-2008, 03:52 PM I don't plan on seeing the movie and I have only seen the trailer once, But i think thats enough reason to give my opinion on the movie.. Its F**king Awful:lol:
McChiken116 11-29-2008, 03:53 PM Its a crappy vampire romance novel.
Xgamr 11-29-2008, 04:18 PM two reasons ill never see it
1) its a terrible story about vampires, which are supposed to be scary
2) 10% of profits go towards support of Prop 8 and future things similar to it.
Killgraft 11-29-2008, 04:35 PM Sorry I came here to bash. If you arent at 12 year old girl you have no reason reading the book or seeing this movie.
Ala Douche 11-29-2008, 04:44 PM most people here will say it sucks without actually seeing it... they've only heard of the books through someone else who probably didn't read them either...
that being said, the movie sucked. the special effects were worse than a made for tv sci-fi channel movie, some of the dialogue was just absolutely ridiculous, and honestly, was the guy SUPPOSED to look like a cancer patient? i did think it was interesting that there were like 3 music videos stuck in the middle of it.
it just seemed like every time it began to become intriguing, something would happen or someone would say something that would remind me how bad of a movie it was.
just to make it clear, the reason i think the movie is awful is 100% production value and 0% content.
Jarrett 11-29-2008, 05:10 PM that being said, the movie sucked. the special effects were worse than a made for tv sci-fi channel movie, some of the dialogue was just absolutely ridiculous, and honestly, was the guy SUPPOSED to look like a cancer patient?
Oh man, I agree! The scene in the trailer when he the two guys are flying around at each other was GOD AWFUL. I could almost see the wire connected to thier backs.
I didn't see the movie though. That was based off of the trailer.
Ala Douche 11-29-2008, 05:16 PM it's funny jarret, that one scene had WAY better effects than the rest of the movie.
Jarrett 11-29-2008, 05:56 PM it's funny jarrett, that one scene had WAY better effects than the rest of the movie.
Seriously?! Oh man... That made me laugh!
Wow it's worse now that I watch it again...

Right around 1:54-2:15.
Kiljoy 11-29-2008, 06:02 PM Just t ooff set things I will say I loved it even though I never saw it... BAM.
Bohemian Child 11-29-2008, 06:03 PM well as always it didnt fully live up to my expectations, but it did a good job of adapting the book for me. so i liked it
I recently saw it, and I don't honestly like it. The acting was horrible, the special effects *fast running* looked like something an idiot was in charge of, and I'm not one for romances *unless it involves a very sexy video game console, like an xbox 360*
theminipanda 11-29-2008, 08:18 PM The movie was just as good as the book and I will let you decide about that yourself.
heavenlyyeti 11-29-2008, 08:23 PM guys...

guys...
:(
yes....
Brian 11-29-2008, 08:32 PM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QVhWUCY9v3w
I completely agree with this video. The books very uninteresting and kiddy. But then again I like books that are inspiring and make me think so I shouldn't have expected much. No offence to any of you that liked it.
heavenlyyeti 11-29-2008, 08:40 PM I can't believe some of you people. I actually am considering leaving now. Not just SG, either. Every community. You're all the same. A bunch of close-minded, ignorant people.
NOTE: this is aimed at the people who ignored my request and mindlessly bashed it anyway.

LOL!!!! Are you that in love with the book, actually you aren't showing your love because if you really liked it you could ignore the bashing and know inside yourself that the book is good. Just because we don't agree with your opinion we are closed-minded and ignorant? Horrible mindset.

It's not just the book. It's everything!
Twilight, Jonas Brothers, Inheritance, and Halo. Lord, Halo.
Basically, everything I like, you guys hate. With a passion.
You have to step into my shoes and realize how frustrating this is.
Brian 11-29-2008, 08:55 PM Well you like those things so it shouldn't matter what others think.

Like better things
No but seriously people will always disagree with you. I myself only Hate the Jonas Brothers but everything else on your list is okay or awesome. Keep in mind some people think that whatever they do on the internet doesn't matter.
heavenlyyeti 11-29-2008, 09:01 PM Well you like those things so it shouldn't matter what others think.
I know, but it's so overwhelming sometimes. And to be perfectly honest, I've only stayed on these forums to try and reach people. I've nearly given up now.
Captain America 11-29-2008, 09:04 PM If you arent at 12 year old girl you have no reason reading the book or seeing this movie.
Amen to that

Well what do you think about us? We don't wake up each morning, get our cup of coffee (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ykJNJYganCg), log on here, and make sure to put everything you like down. We don't have some secret vow (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rb7fLA5ccWg) or something in which we have to piss you off. You're not the king of the world (http://www.last.fm/music/Angelfish/_/King+of+the+World).
But it's not that nobody loves you (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9gOyXhFDlOM) here. It's just that most of us are jaded with our metal hearts (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JymNPzCHIDg) that we are only happy when it rains (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zdodc1Eu1nA). That or your stuff not our idea (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BnJJZeh0Evk) of a good time.

HEY!...I like Halo, I own all the books, all the games, and have a giant sticker of Masterchief above my bed, but I don't like the other things that you've said, except I don't know what Inheritance is. But did you ever consider that people actually don't like those things, and every one is different, therefore getting mad at people for not liking the same things as you makes you an internet Hitler? And I for one do not want there to be an online holocaust.
Just my two cents:thumbsup:
Ala Douche 11-30-2008, 09:49 AM not to be mean, but why do we need to like the same things you do? believe me, i have some differing opinions with a LOT of people here about a LOT of things. you could always just... oh i don't know... not care if other people here like the stuff you do. you're not trying to meet up and hang out are you? if not, then you don't have anything to worry about. just be able to discuss things civilly and you'll be fine.
you must understand that when you bring up something like twilight (which, like it or not is a book intended for teenage girls. if you like it, fine, but you're not the target demographic), expect to see people saying the stuff they are. you have to ignore it. you must realize that most people here are teenagers and teenagers are very judgmental. you just have to rise above it and move on.
Hollowcow 11-30-2008, 09:53 AM Thank you God, for giving me a girlfriend who didn't want to see this movie :)
PS. Halo rocks.

eskimopirate 11-30-2008, 11:55 AM Twilight, Jonas Brothers, Inheritance, and Halo. Lord, Halo.

I'll go through this one step at a time.
Twilight:
First thing, most of the people on this site have never and will never read Twilight. The author herself said it was made for teenage girls and there aren't many of them here. If you like it, that's great! All I'm saying is most people here will not like it because they are not the target demographic.
Jonas Brothers:
Ok, this is probably the hardest for me to talk about because it's music.
You know how hard it is to find a community who likes all the same music as you? Near impossible. Also, most gamers strive to be different and liking the Jonas Brothers is popular, so most gamer (this website is a gamer website) will not like them. All music sounds different to different people, if the Jonas Brothers are your thing, once again, that's great.
Inheritance:
I take it you mean the Eragon books? If not forget this paragraph.
That's just untrue. A lot of people here, me included liked Eragon. The fact the movie is trash is just a fact. I still haven't read Eldest or the other new one however, so I can't be a judge.
Lastly Halo:
Okay that's just untrue. Not many people here hate Halo, they just like other things more. On episode 10 of the red podcast, the jumbo Halo episode, Lono said "Anyone who gives Halo a rating of under a 95 (it mite have been 98, i forget) is just doing it for attention."
theminipanda 11-30-2008, 12:09 PM I liked Inheritance...
Freestyle 11-30-2008, 01:00 PM I sorta wanna see Twilight cause i am a sucker for vampire movies but after seeing this http://www.imdb.com/video/screenplay/vi2842361881/ i know Twilight can't even come close.
I do like Halo just so you know:lol:
heavenlyyeti 11-30-2008, 03:13 PM alright, maybe I overeacted. Sorry, guys.
iwishihadanxbox 11-30-2008, 05:48 PM I didn't read the books (though my friends did...) but I watched the movie. It was okay, but I wouldn't see it more than once.

1. This Video would be Even More badass if I had Context.
2. If a Lady were to invite to see this, I'd go. Only under that Circumstance.

If I had a wife for 10 years and we had kids together, and she was like Jessica Alba but hotter, and every morning she would give me a BJ and $10,000 just because she likes the way I fart in my sleep, and she wanted to take me to see this movie, the relationship would be over. Period.

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:
I don't think you can get hotter than Jessica Alba though....
kendecosta 11-30-2008, 06:53 PM The O.C. w/vampires... yeah right, I'll get right on that. Ya know, because I'm a 15y/o girl with braces and a T-mobile sidekick.
i defy you to watch that "baseball" clip and then tell me this crap isn't a capitol offense against the whole of humanity. and this is the franchise that is supposed to replace Harry Potter? I'm gonna be sick...
c'mon people, the main vampire is 90y/o, yet he has adoptive human parents and falls in love with a teenage girl... gothic pedophilia anyone? hey, just like in 2nd Life. I have SOOOOO many problems with these books(and film) I really should stop now before this vain in my head pops.
Oh yeah, and my son's sophmore english teacher things he's going to read this book for school... not happening, I already have a meeting with her.
BTW, you eat the cattle, you don't make love to it.
AND WHAT'S WITH ALL THE FN WHISPERING!?!
PillowFort 11-30-2008, 07:23 PM yeah and your face is stupid
...Sorry, did I miss the "make fun of the OP" boat?
Bollocks.
Slightly more on-topic, there's a pretty lady that I think is pretty, she is unfortunately quite a fan of this book and as such I've shown far less interest in her now, I just don't think I can have fun with someone that would read such trashy fiction. Why can't I meet a girl that's into Bukowski?

I'm in the same predicament. There's this chick I'm interested in that loves to read. Then one day I saw her reading Twilight, and kinda lost interest.
I'm not gonna totally forget her just for that, but it sure doesn't help what I think of her.
Lono_Lives 11-30-2008, 07:45 PM this is the last twilight thread...
PillowFort 11-30-2008, 07:50 PM this is the last twilight thread...man, out of context that's a pretty poetic line.
eskimopirate 11-30-2008, 08:26 PM this is the last twilight thread...
Please, you know you love it.
My sister tricked me into seeing this movie. "Oh, whoops wrong theature, we might as well see it"
The truth is, if you don't think of it as a vampire movie it's only slightly horrible. If you think of the main character as a goth kid who enjoys animal blood and happens to wear funny glasses, you can actually stomach it. I'll never see it again and I want to throw my sister off a tree for taking me to it still.
Spudnik 11-30-2008, 09:22 PM I was informed by my friend at lunch the other day that she would be forcing me to see this movie. Its good to hear from some of you guys that it wasn't actually that bad. Who knows maybe Ill get some enjoyment out of it?
theminipanda 11-30-2008, 09:24 PM I actually saw it and it was decent. it wasn't good or bad.
Spudnik 11-30-2008, 10:27 PM Thats all I needed to know. As long as im not going to be puking when I come out I think itll be fine. Plus my friend said something about seeing the girl in the movie in boyshorts? Was she lying to me?
Ala Douche 11-30-2008, 10:33 PM the girl is in her underwear for a short scene...
and whoever posted that baseball clip, that part pissed me off. it was SOOOO bad, in or out of context. it was a music video with crappy special effects. shame they butchered Muse in the movie.
Spudnik 11-30-2008, 11:04 PM Just checking if she lied to me or not haha
BTW Ala do you think it would be possible for me to enjoy the movie if I went in expecting it to be kind of like a b-movie zombie flick? So I would make mental allowances for bad production etc and just have fun with the story. Or is the story that bad as well?
DogsDieInHotCars 11-30-2008, 11:45 PM 26 year old married male here and I read the book and enjoyed it (change of pace for my usual sci-fi or John Grisham book). I haven't seen the movie yet, but my wife (who is absolutely OBSESSED with the books) saw it and actually walked out 20 minutes before it was over!
It's too bad that it turned out so bad, I was hopin to enjoy the movie. Oh wells...
Ala Douche 12-01-2008, 01:10 AM Just checking if she lied to me or not haha

the story is decent. just know it looks like a rushed, low budget, chick flick. don't let the vampires fool you into thinking it may be good. if you go see it, don't go with any expectations (though i guarantee you'll laugh at some parts that aren't meant to be funny)
DolmenRage 12-01-2008, 01:12 AM Whoever bashed The O.C., **** you, you don't deserve oxygen. The OC was a great how before it got derrailed in that horrible Season 3 finale.
And yeah, pretty crappy that they butchered Muse.
PCvsApple 12-01-2008, 09:33 AM I give it a 3/10 because it was seriously lacking from the book. I personally didn't even like the like the book so who am I to judge?
Diortem 12-01-2008, 09:44 AM On Twilight:
1) when I look at the trailers, I see alot of people who are all dressed/made up like Darkheart in the GhostRider movie.
2) Add to that seeing the swarms of fangirls in the news. I go to anime conventions, and I was at the first Anime Boston, where I saw first hand the and in person the EVIL of fangirls (special guests... the ENTIRE Gundam Wing main pilot cast). Literally Scott McNiel (I only know of him for his work in Transformers: Beast Wars.... notably for doing arguments between two of his own characters in one shot.... in short being paid to argue with himself (now THAT is a dream job)) couldnt go anywhere without a literal 10 foot radius of 12-15 year old girls all vying for his attention... it was literally a cloud. And VICIOUS. Two of them basically came out of the closet on stage... to the wailing of fangirls filling the room... many of which were about to kill a friend of mine for standing up and yelling at the top of his lungs "I KNEW IT!!!!!!"
Obsession is the lightest word I can think of for these people.... they genuinely scare me.
On Halo:
Honestly, I dont like it... it's "ok" on the PC where I have a control scheme I actually like, but that's it. Ive played alot of games I like one hell of alot more....
However, I have thought about and probably will pick up the books. The Halo universe is ALOT more interesting to me then the games... and I would like to see more of that.
I wont comment on anything else because it would only be a rehash of things said....
kendecosta 12-01-2008, 12:00 PM Whoever bashed The O.C., **** you, you don't deserve oxygen. The OC was a great show before it got derrailed in that horrible Season 3 finale.

you sir, are a sick, sick man. at best, the o.c. was on par with a bad(on purpose) mexican soap opera. i really hope you were being SG.
but if you're a chick, or perhaps a gay(nothing wrong with being gay) man, then you've simply proven my point for me.

There were 4 seasons of that awesome show. And I'm not a girl or gay, and I am mexican , so I will tell you that there is nothing worse than a mexican soap opera. They're the absolute scum of the world.
And I wasn't being sarcastic, I liked the OC, ok, it wasnt the greatest show ever but it was pretty decent for a drama teen show, unlike Laguna Beach or Beverly Hills. Plus, The OC was a great conversation topic with the ladies

ok, i'm with you on the ladies thing. but c'mon, you're killing me. I wanted to puke just seeing an ad for that show. maybe i'm just too old & too married... let's go with that, ok? twilight would be ok with the ladies too, i guess... if by ladies, you mean teenage girls.
oh, is that really the name of your town... Hot Water? cool.
DeadpoolSkye 12-01-2008, 05:34 PM I never really liked the books, but I went to see it with my cousin this past weekend. She was really excited to go see it, and I was fairly bored waiting in the really long line...anyway.
For all the hype, it wasn't as good as I thought it was. I wasn't really digging the story (same with the books), and I didn't like the effects either. I felt they were poorly done. That's not to say it isn't a decent movie for someone else. I'm sure there are plenty of people out there that will love this movie, males and females alike, but it just wasn't for me.
By the way, can anyone tell me why the guy who played Edward's hair always looks like he came out on the losing side of a fight with an electrical socket? Seriously...
IronAxe3k 12-01-2008, 05:59 PM Why must they defile Muse? :( :( :(
PillowFort 12-01-2008, 06:25 PM Why must they defile Muse? :( :( :(It's not even so much this that bothered me, it's bad filmmaking using that song there, as a rule music shouldn't have lyrics in film unless the lyrics come from a diegetic source.
