View Full Version : Who broke my youtube?

As many of you will know, Youtube recently had a redesign. A bad one. Instead of having the curved tabs of the old youtube they have opted for something that, I think, came from 10 years ago. Aesthetics aren't the only issue I have with the new youtube, instead of having the "Most Viewed" list come up when you press the video tab, youtube now displays a "Most Popular" list, you might not even notice the difference at first, but the most popular list seems more commercially orientated.
I'll give you an example, right now the "Most Popular" list shows the top 2 videos as professional music videos. Fair enough right? Well not really, you see these are not community made or community driven videos, the grounds on which youtube was created, these are made by large companies. Other "popular" videos include the new MacBook ad. These videos are not the most viewed and not the highest rated, so why do they appear first? Something tells me that the companies making them have more influence with youtube than it's community does.

Please share your thoughts on the new youtube design.

EDIT: The most popular and most viewed lists are identical right now. Maybe youtube caught on eh?

I broke your you tube.

Is that the kind of answer you were looking for?

I blame George Bush

I know what you mean. YouTube should have had HD a long time ago and should had kept the old design that was actually half way decent.

I never did understand why commercial videos did get to be on the top video section. You would think that Google would had made a separate system in which the commercial vids are excluded from they list.

I would blame some kid Woo-bin. I think this is the answer he was looking for.

I think the new features are a good thing, wide screen playback and HD support; what wrong with that?

I have no problems with the youtube redesign, and I am a pretty heavy user of youtube.

Yeah big company influence is bad, but what did you expect? And it isn't like a terrible influence or anything.

Its not really bad but i am just so used to how it use to be. I was so screwed up when they added the customized home thing came out. But i will get used to it just like when that update came out

I don't really like the new changes either, but there's nothing I can do about it so no sense in complaining

I really don't see how it has been broken at all honestly. Yeah there are some changes, but I don't find any of them bad.

forget about the widescreen, whats really broken on youtube is their new policies which that any video with cursing and explicit material can be taken down and said account can get suspended or never make it to the lists of videos on featured (which are all sponsors.) that is youtubes problem. ive seen this policy in action, its BS.
