Hey everyone, as you've seen in a previous thread i made on this section I'm buying a ps3 in the near future.
But sooner then i expected,

In around a week I have a close family member who is going on holiday to America, I asked them weather they'd pick me up a ps3 when they go over due to the fact it works out to be about 100 quid cheaper over there, then it is here.

So yeh,
I intend on buying the 40gb version due to I don't care about back compatibility or card readers.

What are good deals for around the $400-$500 price mark for a ps3?
Like what the package consists of etc. and where I can get a hold of it. well.. where THEY can get a hold of it.

Oh yer and I know about having to buy a new power adapter etc.

Any help much appreciated.

Not sure what to say, they go on sale either today or tomorrow and are pretty much price fixed. $399 should be the price everywhere they're offered. There is the www.bluraysavings.com deal, but I don't think that applies unless you're in the US (and possibly Canada).

The 40GB unit is supposed to have Spiderman 3 on Blu-ray packed in, and no games.

Do you have an HDTV? The PAL/NTSC differences won't matter if you do, but if you're still on an SDTV, you will likely not be able to use a US PS3.

There are ways to change the video input from NTSC to PAL. For instance, my DVD player can do it if you plug your PS3/360/whatever to it, rather than directly to the TV. Also, it depends on what SDTV you're using - I used to have a Panasonic 42" SDTV, which could play both PAL and NTSC.

Hi guys, I'm not a 360 fanboy by any means although i think Live is awsome and would rather pay a fee to ensure smooth running etc.

However, with the big line up of games coming out in 08 for PS3 (drooling over GT5) I want to get a PS3 sooner rather than later. I'm off to San Francisco in December I'd like to know a few things:

1) How much is the PS3 at the moment 60/80GB models?
2) Are games multiregion?
3) Is the blueray player multiregion?

many thanks guys!!

40GB is $399 US

60GB (no pack-in game) and 80GB (w/MotorStorm) are both $499 (some people have claimed to see 60GB for cheaper but I've not heard any significant number of people say the same).

PS3 games are region free, you can play import games in any PS3.

BLU-RAY MOVIES ARE REGION ENCODED! IF YOU BUY A US PS3, YOU NEED TO BUY ALL MOVIES FOR THAT REGION!

From what I understand, North America, South America and Japan are all in Blu-ray's Region 1 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blu-ray_Disc#Region_codes).

The US 40GB model has not been announced with a game at all. There is only one SKU announced and it has Spiderman 3.

Ratchet & Clank Future is a phenomenal platformer. If you remotely like the genre, you can't do much better.

I don't know what kind of games you like... I love Warhawk to death...

that's cool, bluray discs are cheaper imported anyhow, so looks like I'll be a proud owner soon!

Well, Heavenly Sword is a good game (it's just quite short), Resistance is a great game as well, don't let its age fool you, the community is still VERY active around that game (see this week's PSN updates, new Resistance stuff coming out with another map pack due before the year's end). I really liked MotorStorm (if you're into racing) and I'm personally quite confident Uncharted: Drake's Fortune will be a blast, but some are convinced it'll suck... we'll see soon enough, with a demo on its way a week from today and reviews that have to be getting close to getting released (the R&CF reviews didn't come out until less than a week before release).

Yer I've seen about Uncharted from the stuff you've posted about it,
Honestly looks great. and Yer I've been tempted by Motorstorm, I'll happily own you at it.
..After some practice :p

Thanks for the help Rothbart. :D!

Not true... The only problem is that you can't play PAL PS3 games on a NTSC console, on an SD TV...

Since NTSC PS3's cannot output 580i/p(not the exact resolution), which is the only resolution PAL games can be played in on SDTV's...

So either use an HD TV, or just stick to NTSC/NTSC-J PS3 games...

To my knowledge I should hopefully have a ps3 by the end of this month if all goes to plan.

Would anyone be able to tell me what sort of things are on the PSN store?
I know there are demos, and game trailers on there. Oh and ps1 games.

Is there anything else?
