View Full Version : I QUIT!
ProNinjaX 11-02-2007, 06:38 AM That's right, I used to be the biggest PC game addict. I'd have the biggest game library from the popular (C&C2) to the obscure (Septerra Core) for the PC. Supreme Commander was the last game I've played, and it looks like it'll stay that way for a while.
The system requirements for new games, such as World in Conflict, need me to upgrade some of my system specs between 50% to 100% of its current capacity just to meet the minimum system requirements.
And we haven't even got CrySis and Spore on store shelves yet. I have decided to save what money I would need to upgrade (or buy a new system) to get more games and accessories for my Xbox 360 and Wii, while I keep Supreme Commander as the roof of what I'd be willing to play based on system requirements (even though it brings the system to its knees in the later levels, when there may be over a thousand individual units and structures in each army).
Does anyone else find this problematic?
RawSwedishpoweR 11-02-2007, 06:44 AM Yeah, trying to keep your PC up-to-date is hard.
Apathy 11-02-2007, 09:28 AM indeed it is a hard life.. but someones gota live it...
Garwalker 11-02-2007, 11:45 AM I miss my PC gaming days but I don't miss the minimum requirements/not playable days.
LEGEND 11-02-2007, 03:31 PM Hasnt this been said a hundred times before? Everyone knows buying a new PC is expensive but you get what you pay for. You buy a console you get a games machine, not much else. With a PC your gonna use it for pretty much everything. There's a thousand and one other things you use a computer thats not gaming related so comparing it to a single task Playstation is pointless, because if you look at the big picture the PC is 1000x more useful than any console.

Ya but you don't have to upgrade your PC ever few months just to download porn.
keith22 11-02-2007, 03:47 PM Ya but you don't have to upgrade your PC ever few months just to download porn.
lol
chrispenny 11-02-2007, 04:06 PM I'm pretty sure the min requirement for Spore are going to be hella low. Considering they're releasing a version for Wii.
Hasnt this been said a hundred times before?
Yes it has, in a hundred different threads.
But hell, let's say it one more time:
If you want to be on the cutting edge, you have to pay for it.
PC gaming gets you the very best as soon as it's available. Console gaming gets you the best in 5 year increments (or however long it is between gens).
If you buy a PC at the same time that a next gen console is released, and you make sure it's the same (if not better) specs than that console, than you wont have to upgrade your PC until the following gen.
Yes you wont be able to play games at max, but you'll still be able to play it with the same level of detail as that console.
The difference is you have the choice to upgrade your PC to get something better than any console could offer.
You're using Crysis as an example. Well... guess what, it aint coming out on consoles anyway. So even if you PC can't run it, you're still getting the same experience.
Love it, hate it. Nobody cares. Because that's just the way it is. It's not going to change, and by god I hope it never does.
Sorry for being rude, but we've just been through this so many times that's it's starting to piss me off.
Ala Douche 11-02-2007, 04:06 PM Ya but you don't have to upgrade your PC ever few months just to download porn.
haha that's just proving his point further! 1002 things to do!
chrispenny 11-02-2007, 04:18 PM Yea, just think about how much money you save downloading porn instead of going out and buying it. That's your money back right there.
Ala Douche 11-02-2007, 04:23 PM yeah... i'd have a small fortune!
I'd just like to add that PC Gaming doesn't have to be all that expensive.
These aren't spoilers, they're quotes of myself, but it helps not to clutter my post.
Honestly, I think the price of PC gaming is getting bashed just a tad too much.
In 2003, I bought a new pc worth $1000. (Full package, screen & legal version of windows xp included)
The only thing I had to upgrade so far was my vid card, which cost me $250.
This system is still capable of playing the latest games quite nicely.
HL²:Ep2, TF2, Bioshock, UT3 demo, ET:QW, etc...
So $1250 for 4 years of gaming is quite a reasonable price.
I'll TRY Crysis on that machine with dx9, see what it gives...
I did recently purchase a new system.
Sure, load times are better, graphics are a bit prettier and there's a bit more FPS.
But it doesn't change the gameplay all that much.
I just consider the dx9 to dx10 change the same as a new gen console.
My point is that proper PC gaming doesn't have to be a lot more expensive than console gaming.
Seeing as you are reading this, you already have a computer, so:
A = The extra cost of a gaming PC
B = The cost of a console + the extra cost of console games (usually more expensive than the PC version)
A can pretty much equal B
I agree PC gaming can be a lot more expensive, but it just doesn't have to be.
This while having a great gaming experience as well!
PS:
Someone in the podcast said... "Smokin' hot alienware computer?"
Build it yourself and save some $$$!It's a fact that certain games are better fit for console gaming as others are better fit for PC gaming.
However...
I need a computer and will always have a computer.
As I have to pay the price anyway, I might as well game on it instead of paying extra for a console to game on.
Keyboard and mouse have been very ergonomically friendly to me.
I can play for hours on end without feeling any discomfort.
With a console controller however, my fingers get sore (especially thumbs) and slightly cramped in the way you hold that controller.
Gameplay never feels as intensive on a console as it does on a PC.
Controllers only have so many buttons.
Mouse and keyboard give swifter and smoother moving with many more keybind features.
Chatting abilities are simply better for PC gamers as well.
Chatting within the game, or even better with software like Xfire that allows you to chat with people not playing the game when you are.
(With the ability to turn it off when you don't want to be disturbed of course...)
Mods, custom maps, other types of software,... All easily accessible for PC gamers.
They can control their console online network, but they can't control the internet
People play PC games online longer than console gamers do.
Look at StarCraft or Diablo 2 for example. 20th century stuff still being played online.
I doubt console games will ever last that long online, if any console itself will even last that long...
People tend to forget about this tiny detail, but, for console gaming you need a TV!
I know, most people do have a TV, but not everyone does.
...
Just for the record, I used to be a heavy console gamer, until I recently decided to sell it all.
You can disagree with all this, and more, but these are reason enough for me to stick to PC gaming :)
So this pretty much answers the question.
No, I don't find PC gaming problematic at all :)
PacManPolarBear 11-03-2007, 02:48 AM Ya, sorry to see ya drop down to the minor leagues of gaming.
Edit: The rest of this is gonna go into a soon to be released uber rant by the resident rabid PC fanboy/defender.
ProNinjaX 11-03-2007, 04:05 AM Perhaps consoles cost as much as a gaming PC (with the games and all the hardware), but the extra costs I pay for consoles are for my peace of mind: I know that the hottest new games will run on my Xbox 360 or Wii because it has the logo on it. At most, it will need a software update.
Face it: Not all gamers want to get too technical. I want to be able to enter my CD into the system and jump right into the game.
LEGEND 11-03-2007, 10:48 AM PC games are loads cheaper as well, for example the RRP of Pro Evo 2008 is £49.99 for the PS3 but its only £29.99 for the same PC version.
Halo 3 has a RRP of £49.99 also, but Crysis for the PC a BETTER game, only has a RRP of £34.99. Where's the logic of that.
Your slowly getting your money back if you buy PC games instead of console games.
chrispenny 11-03-2007, 03:24 PM Face it: Not all gamers want to get too technical. I want to be able to enter my CD into the system and jump right into the game.
Well, I guess that's your real reason for ditching PC gaming then.
Cya.
Malice 12-05-2007, 09:01 AM I decided to watch advertisements of the games and then wait 2 years, and buy them at Half-Price books for $5 each.
Heh
ShockwaveLover 12-05-2007, 11:51 AM The technology curve sucks, and I'm down at the lowest possible end without running Windows 95. I haven't even got a DVD Drive! *sobs*
n00bhunter 12-05-2007, 12:23 PM yeah its annoying bout system requirements...but PC GAMING IS AWESOME CONSOLES ARE GAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ShockwaveLover 12-05-2007, 01:19 PM Please, do not do that again n00bhunter. Now this thread will turn into a flame war. And while those can be entertaining, if that's what I wanted then I would go to another site.
RawSwedishpoweR 12-05-2007, 02:29 PM yeah its annoying bout system requirements...but PC GAMING IS AWESOME CONSOLES ARE GAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
yeah its annoying bout exclamation marks... BUT WHEN PEOPLE USE CAPSLOCK AND FIVEHUNDRED EXCLAMATIONMARKS IN ONE SENTENCE, ITS JUST TOO GAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LEGEND 12-06-2007, 08:57 AM lol, yeah grammar sucks.

Even for your average downloader pirate who doesnt pay for PC or 360 games its still more expensive via the console route:
For example, it costs about 1 pound for a Dual layered DVD disk for the Xbox360......So thats only 50 games for the price of 1, as opposed to ∞ games for the price of nothing (if the games are run directly from the drive as the majority of pirates do)

What your saying is technically true BUT.
Xbox 360 + Halo 3 = £240.
Computer able to play Crysis with medium/high settings + crysis game = £700 easily.
Diortem 12-07-2007, 06:52 PM PC all the way.. for me a console is a supplament. Nothing more.
viatrophy 12-07-2007, 07:05 PM I like my console's thank you very much. :)
The only benefit to a console really is you know if you go and buy a game, It'll work straight away. You don't have to bother staring at silly requirements for 10 minutes and figuring out whether you can play the damn game.
(Im not bashing pc's,Trust me. :p)
Chayce 12-07-2007, 11:00 PM PC gaming = Good Games x Nude Mods²

Urbandevil 12-09-2007, 12:39 AM Funny, I just ordered ATI's new HD 3850, to upgrade my 3 year old(I think) X800XL. $189. Double that and I'd have a PS3 that wouldn't need an upgrade for a decade. Way to go me.

Don't compair the 2 to be on equal grounds, I can assure you that the Wii version is gonna be a drawn down due to its hardware limits. Take the new Ghostbusters game to be released next year. Although the game is set for many platforms, when you put the PC next to the Wii's version it almost makes me want to find a corner to cry at.

Although I am a pretty hardcore fan of the big G's, I'm steering clear of the Wii version and looking head on for the PC.
As for spore its not even official if it will be released for other platforms other then PC.

NOTE: This game has been unofficially confirmed as a project planned (or at least heavily, heavily, heavily considered across multiple platforms -- once the PC version is in full form, designer Will Wright will be looking into ways to bring the creation to other systems), but the publisher has not announced the game or committed to platforms. It may or may not be released on this system. Please check back for official details.

....that's actually an insult to the Wii... having seen Wii shots of Alone in the Dark.... just what the hell guys!
Ah well, cant fault them too much if they are saving time for Mushroom Men... but I think you just made certain I aim at the PC version, too.
LOL @ Wii. The Wii one kinda looks like TF2. haha
