View Full Version : PS1 Games on PSP
Alkiezer 11-02-2007, 03:35 PM My girlfriend has a PSP and was told she could play PS1 games on it. She can't make heads or tails of it, so it's up to me to figure it out. I've been reading up on the internet about how to do it, but everyone says you need the firmware v 1.50 and she's upgraded to 3.52. I was wondering if anyone here could help me out.
P.S. - The games we're trying to run are NOT pirated. I legally purchased them when they first came out on PlayStation, so please don't get the wrong idea.
Kiljoy 11-02-2007, 03:48 PM Do you have a PS3? If so you can cheaply buy PS1 games for the PSP on the PSN.

No, I don't have the PS3, and I'm not planning on buying one. I have nothing against it, I just can't afford it, even with the price drop. The only reason I have a 360 is that Microcenter had a $100 rebate last December.

Yes there is a way to play ANY PS1 games you want, but you have to be a little "naughty" to do so.

Please...do tell....
All kidding aside, what do I need to do?

well, it requires a "homebrew enabled" PSP - I would start doing some online research if you really want to make this possible, or find someone you know personally to help you out.
You have to really know what you're doing or you could ruin your PSP permanently.
However if you succeed, it's pretty amazing what you can do with it.

I was hoping someone in our community would have intimate knowledge of what I'm trying to do. Every website I've gone to has a different method of doing this. I guess I'll keep chugging at it. Thanks for your help everyone! I'll let you all know how it turns out.

It seems you have been out of the loop for a while :p.
They invented a little something called the pandora battery, which can fix any 'broken' ( also referred to as 'bricked' ) psp with a little precaution.
This battery can also be used to downgrade your psp.
Downgrading means you run an older version of sony's firmware ( or a version not made by sony at all ) in order to run unlicensed code ( aka homebrew ).
The problem is to obtain such a battery, you must know someone who already has a homebrew enabled psp. Or you can try buying such a battery of eBay.
Seeing you have upgraded to 3.52, this method is the only way of downgrading at the moment.
The official way of playing PSone-games on your PSP runs through the PS3. Problem is you have to buy each game ( around $5,00 ) you want to play and there is only a limited selection of available titles.

Yeah, that's true, I knew about the pandora battery, but if I remember correctly, it's quite tricky to get it to work, let alone find one.
Rekenmachine 11-04-2007, 04:29 PM If you don't know anyone who has a downgraded psp it's pretty tricky to get your hands on one, yes.
But if you do, it's just a matter of 'follow the steps'. If you don't rush things, have patience, and read carefully, it should work fine.

Alkiezer 11-06-2007, 09:55 AM Well, since I am unable to make my own battery, it looks like it's time to go hunting on eBay. Let me know if you guys think of anything else. Thanks again for helping me out!
