View Full Version : Lbp fps?
Jacob816 12-29-2008, 07:49 AM So I was reading this (http://kotaku.com/5119448/sure-littlebigplanet-can-do-first+person-why-not) over on Kotaku, and it said the not only is MM interested in doing some FPS stuff in LBP, but has already began working on it, and has a basic code of it.
So what do you guys think? Do you think a FPS section of LBP could work? I'm kinda doubtful as the platforming in the game has worked so well with a 2D perspective.
photomaster94 12-29-2008, 08:56 AM i dont really see how this will work. also the game is rated E so it will have to be DLC that has a different rating for it. If they do it well then i would be all for it but i dont think they will be able to pull it off.
Cheese 12-29-2008, 09:15 AM @ Photomaster, they don't necessarily have to change the age rating for it to be a FPS. They could just have you shooting targets or cardboard cutouts.

but where is the fun in that. i guess it could be like mirrors edge or something bet then it would not be an fps just something in the fp
Cheese 12-29-2008, 09:50 AM I didn't say I thought it would be fun, I just said that it didn't necessarily have to change its age rating.
photomaster94 12-29-2008, 10:24 AM true. lol :grin::grin::grin:
Nightkiller93 12-29-2008, 12:02 PM Ummm if you actually read the article, it doesn't mention FPS, it just mentions the FP and TP perspectives, that are already up and running.
At it's core LBP is a platformer not a FPS, and it will not be turned into a platforming FPS.
Its a platformer, but now that have a paintball gun i think it can be sometimes like a TPS
dankster 12-29-2008, 02:30 PM The over-the-shoulder or first person perspective are pretty neat ideas and doesn't seem too complicated to implement -- it seems to be a change in camera perspective following Sackboy. It begs some questions though:
Is the idea that we can play any level using any of the selectable viewpoints?
What about the three planes of depth? If Sackboy can freely move in the space, what kind of oddities will arise since the levels are now created with navigation based on being in one of the three planes?
It seems like it would be hard to create a good level that could be played using any of the perspectives. It was hard enough for me to make a functional level already.
This is a pretty neat idea and I'd like to see the end result.
Gilarus 12-30-2008, 08:39 AM So with multiple players, would it go split-screen?
Cheese 12-30-2008, 09:00 AM @ Gilarus, if they allowed it for local play then it would have to but it would remain the same for online.

it is impossible to have something that is first person and over the
First Person Definition from Google (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&client=safari&rls=en-us&defl=en&q=define:first+person&sa=X&oi=glossary_definition&ct=title): In video games, first person refers to a graphical perspective rendered from the viewpoint of the player character. In many cases, this may be the viewpoint from the cockpit of a vehicle. ..
Over The Shoulder Definition from someplace: A shot that gives us a character's point of view but that includes part of that character's shoulder or the side of the head in the shot.

K, thats what I thought

That's why I wrote OR. I am aware of these definitions. Thanks anyways.:cool2:
Farko 12-30-2008, 01:40 PM if you played the first level of the MGS downloadable levels, when u get the right sticker (think its a bullet hole) as your in the truck moving to the side, u move the sticker around onto the cardbord cutouts of soilders and stick it on them to knock them down
In a sense its like a shooter, the sticker is your aim riticule, then you stick it to "shoot", the the response is the cut out acting shot, so in a sense its a side scrolling shooter, think about certain levels of point blank
kim andre 12-31-2008, 10:06 PM chud work.... whud b awesome if it did
prcrew10 01-03-2009, 05:01 PM Well if they did do that any shooting would be really cartoony so its not to different with the rest of the game
nathanhale 01-03-2009, 07:32 PM yaaannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnoooooooooooooooo

Think about how sweet the Mirrors Edge level would be.
EDIT:Upon further thought it would just be a crappy version of mirrors edge
PCvsApple 01-04-2009, 10:27 AM LBP as a FPS? That would be pretty weak for such a. platformer
