I'm sorry for another MGS topic, but I'm completely obsessed with this game. It makes me a happy person. My biggest concern about it was the distinct lack of game play that was over 10 hours (I played on hard. I should have played more than that).
I think they should have allowed you to play certain scenes as opposed to making you watch them. There were also some blank spots in the game they could have inserted some gameplay to beef it up a bit...for example (no spoilers):
For those who've played past Act 3, you'll remember Snake having to go into the sewer. They should have made that a sort of escort mission for your guest (again, no spoilers) while avoiding (or taking out) some Scarabs and guards.
How do you think they should have beefed up the gameplay without sacrificing the integrity of the story?

I am with you I loved that game so much......but once I did everything there was to do I just load it up now to play and kill people with my insane arsenal of weapons. Did you get all the badges yet? That is fun or speedrunning the game for your best time, I had a hell of time the first couple of runs

At first I thought like everyone else did, not enough gameplay.
But after finishing the game, I realized that the top 3 game moments of 2008 were all stuff that happened in Mgs4's cutscenes. I replay the game and still watch some of the crazy long cutscenes from start to finish.
When Liquid demonstrated the power of S.O.P. to Snake, Big Mama and several countries worth of armymen, I literally didn't want to pick up the controller, heck, I forgot the controller was even there.
There were only one or two moments in the entire game when I thought: "Ok, I get it, let's go now"

@ Keith K, but then you run the risk of missing important parts of the story which could stop the rest of the game from making sense.

I would say DPS that every one is just going to say "skip the cut scenes" But to go on topic of how to extend the game..
How cool would it be if you could play as Raiden and take out some of those mechs with his cool ninja moves rather than watching it

Let me break it down for you this way:
Unless you've played MGS1, 2 and 3.. understanding MGS4 is a hopeless endeavour. This is a blatently obvious fact that somehow Sony's dependence on MGS4 somehow blinded the fanboys to (both PS3 and Xbox fanboys. Lono in particular.)
If you HAVE played MGS1-3, then you've already invested a hundred hours in the story anyway. If you're that enamoured with it (as I am) then MGS4's cutscenes are enthralling from beginning to end.
Either you WANT to watch the story or you don't. If you WANT to, you only have to do it once. If you don't then you don't.. just skip it.

I'm completely enthralled with the story and have invested the time in the previous three, but they can find ways to add more gameplay into it. Like Juiced Pirate said. Give me the option of playing as Snake or Raiden during that battle in REX's hangar or, like in the example I said which was to make the sewer a playable part of the game. There's more gameplay options, but it doesn't effect the integrity of the story.

I tried it, but I probably won't play unless my friends get the game like I told them to...or I find some SG peeps to chill with.
