MightyMutt 01-07-2009, 08:04 AM Good show, as always. You consistently both come across as genuinely funny, nice and enthusiastic guys and this makes you podcast a pleasure to listen to.
Don't exactly agree with either of your top 5's, but hey, I'd be a little bit disappointed if I did.
Nice one guys, keep up the good work

What's not to agree with? Our top 5's are the end all be all of 2008 gaming! No dissenting opinions will be courted!!
Glad you enjoyed the show. We just recorded the next one last night, and Nerves just called me to tell me that he is still hung over, so that should give you a clue as to how the show went!!
Talkingship 01-07-2009, 05:46 PM Is this thread in the correct location? Shouldn't it be in the Community Podcasts - the Shows section instead of the news section?
8bitBass 01-08-2009, 12:07 AM The news-bot dumps it until it is moved to the SGCP community podcast section by a mod.
I disagree that left 4 dead is number one though.
Another great show, you need to provoke nerves more though so that he has to take a shot
mediocre george 01-08-2009, 01:42 AM I don't know Bass, L4D has been some of the best online gaming I've ever experienced.
Great show guys, despite the disappointing lack of shots :) Looking forward to the next one!
Talkingship 01-08-2009, 12:11 PM I am still loving L4D. I'd love to hear what you guys would pick as your number one.
8bitBass 01-08-2009, 01:02 PM L4D seems overrated to me. Don't get me wrong I have had some fun playing it both as survivor and zombie alike. But here are the issues that keep me from loving this game:
1) online games are very long (the levels are long and you have to start the whole movie mission over as you cannot save at safe rooms-to my knowledge though single player may be different) VS mode is one long, long match, too long for me.
2) lack of variety of weapons and levels
3) the AI is amazingly cheap, 4 of you can be holding of a horde in normal difficulty and a smoker snatches you and while you are being dragged away a boomer throws up on you calling forth another horde!
Despite all of this, something compels me to keep this game. Perhaps I need better people to play with. I am sure I will finally get into this game by the time everyone else has moved on to something else.
djdsf 01-08-2009, 02:38 PM Man, Indiana Jones was a great movie, it should be number 1!!
Oh God, I can't even type that w/o LOLing.
mediocre george 01-08-2009, 10:37 PM 3) the AI is amazingly cheap, 4 of you can be holding of a horde in normal difficulty and a smoker snatches you and while you are being dragged away a boomer throws up on you calling forth another horde!
Yeah, but those moments are kind of what make the game.
I think this game is at it's best during moments exactly like that, when one person (usually the guy who was on the turret!) is screaming about the smoker that's got him, and one person is yelling about the boomer, and the other two are yelling out something along the lines of "Oh god, they're all over me! We're so screwed!!"
I think that at the point where I started playing and expecting to win, or even do well, I would cease to enjoy it as much. But then, I suppose frustration usually begins at the point where I expect not to suck
djdsf 01-08-2009, 10:40 PM So, why was there no drinking at the start?
I missed that.

Ahhh. Well maybe I have been approaching it the wrong way. I need to expect to lose:lol:
Yeah, I have to disagree on L4D being #1 as well. I think it's a great game, and an even better proof of concept, but it just doesn't feel finished to me.
I personally, Fallout 3 was my pick for the year. It was such an in depth gaming experience, and it was pretty much on the mark for what I look for in a good game at this point in my life. I was also a huge fan of the entire Elder Scrolls series, so the "Oblivion with guns" thing is a selling feature.
Not that the game didn't have it's share of issues, (Level cap, poor ending, weak main story, and others) I just think that there is enough good with Fallout 3 to raise the bar, and set it apart from the pack of good games this year.

We were already pretty drunk from recording the original Talkingship show that same night. So, we decided to not do the shots. . . . And Nerves is a wimp.

I would agree for the most part. The reason that L4D got my vote was because I keep going back to it. That is what gets me excited about a game: longevity. Once I finished Fallout 3 I wasn't dying to go through it again (though I am not going to sell it, which is a big PLUS for it in my gaming world). L4D however has me scrambling to play it again and again. I agree with 8-bit that they need to tweak the online games, make them shorter or have a version that is meant for quick play. But still, I am loving this game.
Cam-Dog 01-10-2009, 05:35 PM Great show guys one gripe is that I think you guys have to take more shots haha. Of course with swearing being bleeped out. This may not fit in with your PG rating though.
