CES is not a gaming convention.* It is a gadget and software convention.* That said, there’s a lot of gaming peripherals and games themselves on display.* My updated impressions of the trade show and a bit of info as to what I saw and expereinced, after the jump.

Right up front, I played Dawn of War II, Killzone 2, and Flower. I had eyes-on time with Halo Wars, Fat Princess, Patapon 2 and Resistance: Retribution.

Dawn of War II: If you liked or loved Company of Heroes, this game will melt your face off.* It was a blast.* I even played around with the Tyrannids, a new playable race in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. It played almost exactly like CoH, but with Hero units.* This is the next big thing for RTS gaming in 2009.

Killzone 2: This could be the game that saves Sony’s multiplayer scene as the “it” or “must have” shooters of 2009.* I really enojed my hands on time with the game and you can read all about my impressions, right here (http://sarcasticgamer.com/wp/index.php/2009/01/ces-killzone-2-single-player-impressions.html).

Flower: This is a totally different game than anything you’ve ever seen or experience.* You’ll either love it or hate it as you use your sixaxis motion controls to fly around scooping up flower petals in zen-like tranquility. Read my impressions, right here (http://sarcasticgamer.com/wp/index.php/2009/01/ces-2009-flower-hands-on.html).

Halo Wars: The next big RTS for the Xbox 360 looked pretty good in person.* I saw units moving to cover and got the distinct Company of Heroes vibe from it.* PacManPolarBear will have hands-on impressions later today.

Fat Princess: this is a multiplayer PSN title for the PS3.* It’s a cartoony mideval brawler where your goal is to steal a princess.* The defenders must “fatten” the princess up by feeding her cake, to make it harder for the attackers to carry her off.* I was surprised by the nuance displayed by the game with regard to the classes and attacking and defending.* I’m hoping to get some time with it later today.* Stay tuned.

Resistance: Retribution: I had already played this at PAX and loved it.* The only difference here at CES was that Sony had it hooked up to a PS3 and was being displayed on a big screen TV and using the Dualshock to control the game.* The game did not fill the screen, I can only guess because it just wouldn’t look good on the full screen, but the simple fact that you can do that AND use the PS3 controller is just awesome, given how much fun the game is. Read PMPB’s impressions right here (http://sarcasticgamer.com/wp/index.php/2009/01/resistance-retribution.html).
