What is disappointing however, is the announcement of NO XMB in 2.0....
There are however new menus, theme options and that remote play functionality.

Latest PLAYSTATION®3 System Software Update Allows PSPTM to Turn PS3TM On and Off from Internet Connection for Enhanced Remote Play
Ability to customise XMB™ and add personalised playlists for both music and photos also enabled
London, 8 November 2007 – Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) announced today the availability of the latest version of the PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3™) system software. Version 2.00 features the ability to turn a PS3 system on and off remotely, using a PSP™ (PlayStation®Portable) system via the Remote Play1 function, allowing for a truly mobile partnership between the two systems.
Building on the success and potential of the Remote Play functionality, Version 2.00 will cement the partnership between PS3 and PSP and create a truly global experience. With the ability to turn your PS3 on and off from Wi-fi connection, there is now the opportunity to listen to the music, look at the photos and watch the videos saved on the PS3 Hard Disk Drive, anywhere in the world.
To further enhance the PS3 offering, Version 2.00 allows for the creation of personalised playlists in both the music and photo sections. This simple to use function gives users an opportunity to create unlimited music playlists for all occasions, as well as sharing favourite photos in glorious high definition.
Continuing with the idea of a personalised PS3, Version 2.00 allows for customisation of the XMB™ (XrossMediaBar) menu screen. Change the colour and brightness with the greatest of ease or have something completely different by setting a custom theme. With the potential for new backgrounds to become available on PLAYSTATION®Network in the future, Version 2.00 truly opens up a whole raft of options.
A host of other enhancements includes the addition of an Information Board on XMB to keep people up to date on the latest PlayStation® news, the inclusion of a new PLAYSTATION Network category and logo for easier navigation and Trend Micro Web Security, a free2, state of the art internet security system, designed to give parents peace of mind.
Hopefully this is just a brief glimpse and not the whole thing. Oh joy we can change the colour of the xmb. Fun fun. Im sure a more detailed list will come soon. The Remote play of your media anywhere sounds very cool though.
MonkeyMajiks 11-07-2007, 10:48 AM LOL just posted this as well... :-)
Chexd 11-07-2007, 10:54 AM :s sorry! lol :(

Shane86 11-07-2007, 11:55 AM no in-game xmb? they're still miles behind the 360, christ is it really that hard to invite your friends to a game you're currently playing? cop on Sony.

For accuracy's sake, let's clarify that it's "no in-game XMB". And yeah, it's a disappointment from what I was hoping for...
Again, I am suspect of people with invested interests elsewhere "leaking" all sorts of pie in the sky update rumors in the hopes that the "real" update would seem unimpressive regardless of the features it offers.
IMO, the XMB theme support is leaps and bounds beyond the 360's dashboard themes (which are a joke IMO). The InfoBoard feature may be cool, we'll have to wait and see...
but most importantly... CANON PRINTER SUPPORT! SWEET! I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!!!! <--- that there's some extra-fine sarcasm...
Emophia 11-07-2007, 12:26 PM I couldn't care less about in XMB, I jsut want in game messaging and friends lists...
rothbart 11-07-2007, 12:31 PM I couldn't care less about in game messaging, I jsut want in game messaging and friends lists...
I'm confused...
Emophia 11-07-2007, 12:38 PM I meant in game XMB...
Which is a feature I don't get why people want...

Most people really mean "in game messaging (which includes adding/accepting/inviting friends)" and "custom music soundtracks" when they say in-game XMB I'm betting. Some things make no sense to have in-game. But messaging, friend invites, game invites and possibly custom soundtracks would be welcome additions.
rothbart 11-07-2007, 02:15 PM I merged the two "firmware 2.0" threads, no need in having two. It merges posts chronologically, so some things may seem slightly out of sync, that's because they were posted in separate threads.
Enjoy. Remember, this is a .06 update from the last firmware... it's disappointing, yeah, but if you look at the complete feature set of Firmware 2.0 (not just the new stuff specifically from the 2.0 release), it really is a TON better than the 1.0 the PS3 launched with.
Some of you "newcomers" may not remember what it was like a year ago... just keep in mind that with the PSP's track record and the PS3's "monthly" updates, that we're still going to progress... features are still going to be added. I mean look back at the gem that was firmware 1.80... great things can (and do) happen without major firmware version jumps.
Mr Eibmoz 11-07-2007, 02:34 PM No way man! Remote on! Best update yet ^_^
Apparently one of the Sony folk said they were going to be adding more video support in the future. Divx baby! (maybe)
Also, custom theme maker? Dang site better than MS and their 2quid a theme scam ^_^
Mr Eibmoz 11-08-2007, 06:32 AM Well its out annnnnd theyve added folders! Shit folders, but its a start. Remote play isnt working with me, probably becuase I'm running m33, next release should fix that hopefully. The RSS thing is really ugly and I cant say I like the new icons (I prefered the basic outliney icons myself) but that'll be changable so yeah. All in all, remote wake is still the only really good thing here.
Shane86 11-08-2007, 07:48 AM you can download extra themes here: http://au.playstation.com/support/ps3/faqs/custom_theme_files.zip
folders: [PS3] - > [THEMES] -> put files in here
then put them on a usb key, go to theme settings and install
rothbart 11-08-2007, 11:17 AM Remote play isnt working with me, probably becuase I'm running m33,
Works fine for me (I'm on the latest "legit" PSP firmware)...
mrpuggywuggy 11-08-2007, 11:55 AM got 2.0 this morning its a decent update although the update bar in the top right corner lasted about 20 seconds before i turned it off it spoils your background picture by having a bar with messages scrolling across but at least they give you the option to switch it off anybody else not like it?
I did like the new psn tab on the xmb and the new folders are a step in the right direction so im pretty pleased with the update on the whole.
Mr Eibmoz 11-08-2007, 04:12 PM Works fine for me (I'm on the latest "legit" PSP firmware)...
I had to re-pair the PSP to the PS3. Seems like it would work now, ifi t wasnt for the "please go to system update and update your PSP to the latest version. Bah. I really want the feature, but not enough to lose Bookr and PSPRadio and all that lovely homebrew goodness. I'll just have to wait for the next m33.
edit: fixed. Just had to rejiggle some files in the flash. Works fecking great dosnt it? ^_^ I quite like that you can also use the PSP to spy through the PSEye too ¬_¬
smon jiff 11-08-2007, 05:25 PM MUST... HAVE... IN GAME XMB...
Mr Eibmoz 11-08-2007, 07:48 PM Bitchin'! You can create custom folders for your games! Its kind of hidden and maybe a little awkward, but hurrah all the same! The only thing XBL has over PSN now is the in game XMB stuff.... which to me insnt a big deal because I rarely use my PS3 for online gaming right now and by the time I do they should have fixed it ^_^
rothbart 11-09-2007, 01:34 AM You can now download a video from the PS Store and instead of opting for Background Download, you can play it while downloading (that's new for 2.0 but I've not seen it documented anywhere).
MonkeyMajiks 11-09-2007, 03:35 AM I really don't like the RSS thing, the actual idea is fine. My isssue is with the design execution which in my opinion (I'm a web/designer, so im picky!) is really rather crap, and not in keeping with the initial design of the XMB layout.
Instead of having a silly small box in the corner, that is hard to read and awful looking, how about when you open the RSS icon the side bar that is used for the options pops out with the stories in it?
This isn't exactly a great method, but it would be easier to read and more aesthetically pleasing than the current exectution!
rothbart 11-09-2007, 04:22 AM agreed, the idea is fine, the implementation is what I'd expect from a 0.01 version, maybe 0.02 :D
