EA has announced that a new time trial map pack will be available on the Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC on January 29th, 2009.

The downloadable content will cost $10, and includes seven brand new time trial maps for Mirror’s Edge (9 new time trial races). The new maps are styled completely different than anything else seen in the game, featuring abstract shapes and colorful arenas in large open spaces.

“The freedom of movement and control in first person has been the most popular aspect of Mirror’s Edge,” says Owen O’Brien, Senior Producer for DICE. “We deliberately chose a more abstract aesthetic that is still within our distinctive art style and then focused on flow and gameplay to create an experience and challenge very different from the main game.”

PlayStation 3 owners will have the opportunity to download one of the new maps for free.

And in case you’re interested, the names for the new maps are as follows: Kinetic, Razzmatazz, Actino, Reflex, Chroma, Flow, Velocity.

I really like this game, but the campaign is ridiculously short :(

I've only been playing the game on Thursday, Friday and Saturday and I'm halfway through the 8th chapter. So far it has only taken about 5-6 hours at the most.

Good thing there's DLC then. I would have liked a bit more on the campaign though.

Ok this is the only reason I have some what of a problem with EA. They charge $10 for map packs that are time trials. Why cant it just be free? I mean come on they DID kinda milk us with nothing in the game. If I was EA, I would of had some time trials already in the game then had DLC for them later also. I'm not trying to smash the game because I fricken love the game. I would have its babys if I could hahaha. But thats beside the fact haha.

Time Trial stages already exist in the game, and they are plentiful. So what's wrong with EA giving us more TT stages?

Those look fantastic! The thing I disliked about Mirror's Edge was the constant stopping to deal with enemies - these time trial look set to restore fluidity to the game.

Well while sometimes that would be annoying. If you get good enough at it you can just run by an enemy and have him down in one swift move and keep running.

Wow, maybe I will have to rent it again.

Unless they make DLC with an add-on for a good story, don't know if I will though.

It was a good game, it wasn't great, and there definitely isn't enough there for me to want to buy it in my opinion.

I frickin love and hate the time trials all at the same time. Can't wait to get back to the states and download them to get angry all over again. Although then I will be rockin a bad-ass gaming PC so I may just have to get it on there.

Best game ever? Well like you said, different opinions are okay. My problems with it are as follows:

1. Story is pretty predictable, and not very well explained. Like, what are you delivering? Who are you delivering it to? Why are they sending so many cops after you? For all you know, you might be delivering bombs to terrorists, and the cops are just trying to help the community. And why the hell is the government evil? That is never explained also..

2. Some of the later levels through you in a bunch of cramped spaces (boat/buildings), while the best parts are on the rooftops.

1. Does the story really matter? You're running for the sake of it and theres people in the way who need to be dispatched with matrix like finesse. The game is fun. Isn't that what matters?

2. If it was all on rooftops it would get old pretty fast the change of scenery is nice and requires a new type of thinking.

Alright #1. Even if I was still delivery bombs to terrorists, I would still wanna be doing it on rooftops haha. I mean come on seriously, EVERY freaking game out there doesnt need to be explain into detail. If its fun, who cares. Sides half the people that play these games are pretty much brain dead anywho so whats it really gonna matter? (By the way, your delivery information about the goverment in the game. At least it hints at that.)

#2. Buildings have to be scalled before you can get to the top buddy. So I'm glad they put more then just rooftops. They did a really great job on creating the level and how they work together.

Ok yeah buildings have to be scaled, but running around in a giant boat wasn't exactly needed.

And yeah games don't have to be super detailed, but some detail would be nice.

The game was fun, and I liked it. I just think that it could have been much better, and if there is a sequel, hopefully they will make the story less mediocre and change up the levels...

Oh, and the combat was kind of garbage. :D

Hmmm. I just found a waffle iron on sale....

I partly agree with you, the punch and slide combos were kinda bad, but the disarms are pretty cool for some of the guns.

.

Not saying that some of the moves didn't look cool (because they looked very cool), but most of it was just not fun, to put it simply. The best parts of the game are when you are running or chaining together some awesome moves to get to somewhere, not when punching masked SWAT guys.

Oh yeah, it looked great, and I love the whole first person perspective. Cutscenes were cool also, though it would have been cooler if they weren't in that style imo.

Jeez there is no convining you man haha. I would try but I think you dont even care so haha. Anywho, whats wrong with a boat level anywho? Nothing. Its creative, different. So its good. If they do in fact make a sequel I'm almost positive it will be better then this one in many ways. If there smart they will listen to the people that played it and ask what they think should be changed. Oh come on the game wasnt supposed to be around combat dude. They made it as kinda a side thing so you could get rid of enemys that are trying to blow your brains out with an M16.

The problem I had with the Boat level was that a lot of it was inside cramped spaces, I don't know, that just didn't seem like something that a free-running platform game should have.

Grrr. It's been delayed

http://www.bagrunners.com/archives/2009/01/29/mirrors-edge-map-pack-dlc-delayed/

If you can’t find the Downloadable Map Pack for Mirrors Edge today, you’re not alone. The release date for the DLC has been delayed until February according to a spokesperson from EA.

PS3 owners will still be able to play the free exclusive map being released today, January 29th.

The reason for the delay appears to be for quality control purposes, with EA reporting that the delay will help them offer a “completely smooth experience for players.”

Delay or no delay, at least DICE is putting forth effort to deliver a wonderful experience
