View Full Version : Resident Evil 5 Demo... Darksied93 01-26-2009, 07:55 AM ...is out now on the XBL Marketplace. I'm currently downloading it. Feel free to express your thoughts of the demo. I can't wait to play it. BlinkinCard41 01-26-2009, 08:07 AM Nice. Thanks for telling me. I probably wouldn't have noticed, even if it was being promoted on the dashboard. I'm so oblivious to that stuff. monkeychunkuk 01-26-2009, 08:20 AM wow where to start! first i hate the have to find ammo part, then thiers the real time gun swap, and then you cant run and shoot, and with an open world the games dosent seem to work for me? MosEisley 01-26-2009, 08:24 AM Thanks for the heads up I'm gonna go download it now. Can't wait to play the 3rd area. MosEisley 01-26-2009, 09:00 AM Well... There was no 3rd area. What shame, the internet has failed me. NuclearNinja 01-26-2009, 09:25 AM Alright! nopain14 01-26-2009, 09:28 AM Sweet I am going to download it now! bluec1988 01-26-2009, 09:39 AM nice i must it download now. now i must spread the word on another site RaiseHavok 01-26-2009, 09:52 AM Blast! I have to wait until next week when it is added to the PSN. Sigh. Altis1 01-26-2009, 10:02 AM Was the new control scheme in the demo? crashtestgamer 01-26-2009, 11:51 AM i am downloading it now. codinthepocket 01-26-2009, 11:57 AM Cheers for the tip! Getting it now. I'm hoping that this doesn't disappoint. I'm not a Resident Evil fan as such, but I really want to be. This could be the breakthrough. Shane86 01-26-2009, 12:35 PM It was nice playing this at the start of December :p I'm not overly impressed with it either. MeggaMan 01-26-2009, 12:48 PM Must.. Have... Now!! I thought it came out next month? Oh well this is one time I'm glad I'm wrong  Justified Owenage 01-26-2009, 01:24 PM God damn it's hard! PillowFort 01-26-2009, 01:50 PM You know how everyone played the COD:WAW beta and decided they just prefered COD4? Well... That, only without the ability to strafe. Leo 01-26-2009, 02:22 PM Same old stupid Capcom controls. Didn't like lost planet or dead rising for the same reason. In a word...tragical. PillowFort 01-26-2009, 02:24 PM DR handled okay, LP was terrible for entirely different reasons. BlinkinCard41 01-26-2009, 02:39 PM Either this is really hard or I'm just really out of touch with the Resident Evil controls. Altis1 01-26-2009, 02:39 PM Same old stupid Capcom controls. Didn't like lost planet or dead rising for the same reason. In a word...tragical. So I take it the controls still suck. Either this is really hard or I'm just really out of touch with the Resident Evil controls. No. They are intentionally are gimping your range of movements to make the game harder. Artemas 01-26-2009, 02:41 PM That was...no, no it was not it sucked. Other than being REALLY pretty it sucked. There was no creepy background music which would not be a huge problem but there was nothing else to listen to and it did not help the "horror" that Capcom wantedso badly that they skipped a little something called MOVING while shooting or at the very least reloading while moving. The aiming speed also needs a faster setting, I can make a small ham sandwich before the cursor moves to the opposite side of the screen. The actual zombie horror seemed non-existent compared to the full game if they don't fix this stuff. The menu was also a pain in the ass I keep trying to heal myself and after finding my green herb, selecting it, pushing A three times and finding out I somehow hit "drop item" instead of "use" my now headless body hit the ground. I was only able to play on single player and the AI Sheeva kept taking all the pistol/shoty(she doesn't even have a shotgun!) ammo and refused to give me any so I had to do the first stage with a knife and that kinda sucked. BlinkinCard41 01-26-2009, 03:12 PM I was only able to play on single player and the AI Sheeva kept taking all the pistol/shoty(she doesn't even have a shotgun!) ammo and refused to give me any so I had to do the first stage with a knife and that kinda sucked. You can request the AI to give you items. If you bring up the item menu and hit RB, you can see what she has. Then you highlight the item you want from her and press request and she will give it to you. cheranguista 01-26-2009, 03:17 PM I m gonna downloaded it when i get home from work ... i hope i like it..... Darksied93 01-26-2009, 04:16 PM I just played it and I like it. I like how it focuses on the "partner" aspect of the game. Where you have to heal your partner and whatnot. But like Artemis said, there really is no "creepy feel" to the game. But I don't mind that. The menu is kind of a pain in the rear. Especially when in the heat of zombies and you're trying to take the shotgun, but zombies keep hitting you. Overall though, I like it. I will definitely buy it though. NuclearNinja 01-26-2009, 04:38 PM I don't really like it, the aiming seems to be slow even on the fastest setting and you cant see the lazer sight very good. Also it sucks having to pull up the equpiment thingy. AND stopping when you aim is annoying as hell and gets me hurt a good many times. I'll have to play it some more for my full opinion. n7ghthawk 01-26-2009, 06:41 PM god still at skool but am just about finished my econ class i cant wait Inzader 01-26-2009, 06:58 PM I'm DLing it. Anyone wanna play through it with me? Dakkster 01-26-2009, 07:15 PM Seems like a lot of people are missing the whole point of having limited movement, which has been a staple throughout the entire Resident Evil series. I loved Resident Evil 4 for my Gamecube and this one was even better (although my favorite in the series so far is the remake of RE1 on the Gamecube). But anyway. The limited movement is part of what heightens the stress in the game. You're supposed to have to make difficult choices, when to move, when to shoot, when to reload or go into the inventory. In RE4 the game paused when you went into the inventory, so I look forward to having this additional stress. A run-and-gun style of play where you jump around, circle-strafing would just not fit the RE franchise. It would take away A LOT of the suspense. NuclearNinja 01-26-2009, 07:17 PM Your probably right. Artemas 01-26-2009, 07:52 PM But anyway. The limited movement is part of what heightens the stress in the game. A run-and-gun style of play where you jump around, circle-strafing would just not fit the RE franchise. It would take away A LOT of the suspense. I had no problems with the limited movement in RE4 but it actually worked in that game, with this it's just in the way. Altis1 01-26-2009, 08:05 PM But anyway. All of that worked in Dead Space and you were able to shoot and walk at the same time. Limited movements doesn't increase suspense, it only increases frustration. In a time where third persons shooters controls are defined by games such as Gears and Dead Space, there is no excuse to have controls such as this. MosEisley 01-26-2009, 08:19 PM I'm DLing it. Anyone wanna play through it with me? I'll play it with you if you want. I've been playing it a lot. If you want to play just add me. bluec1988 01-27-2009, 05:27 AM yea the controls are very uncoordinated to say the least! other posters have stated its frustrating oh yes it is until you know every control! The boss was some what annoying but my uppercuts finally got to him. I have to admit the detail graphics are very good for this game.I like the idea of COOP online, I will give it a try. I cant really judge the game until I played it and really get in depth with it and this is my first RE game. Shane86 01-27-2009, 05:38 AM Run away, stop, turn around, aim, shoot, run away, stop, turn around, aim, shoot... The controls are so archaic, I don't care if all resident evil games were like that, they need to change with the times. NuclearNinja 01-27-2009, 07:01 AM Didn't you say that the demo was awesome, Shane? Marcus Gv 01-27-2009, 07:34 AM This was the 1st time I've played RE and I was really looking forward to it. I am very dissapointed. I'm not a fussy gamer and will give most games a chance, but I really hate the controls. The zombie AI is really bad, they just hang around waiting to be shot. I think its time this franchise had a reboot. Its stupid not being able to move and shoot. The only thing I liked able the game was the coop partner, she is hot. Darksied93 01-27-2009, 07:48 AM Yea, I noticed that the zombies just walk right into your bullets. ahtisharry 01-27-2009, 08:35 AM i dont like it i like to RUN! and relod while moving... <,< hope they add run into the full game >.> and i hate the lack of amo i have no skill at finding amo i acutly need =[ so ill be screwed Natural Eraser 01-27-2009, 05:20 PM i dont like it i like to RUN! and relod while moving... <,< hope they add run into the full game >.> and i hate the lack of amo i have no skill at finding amo i acutly need =[ so ill be screwed I like the lack of ammo, it makes the game a little more intense. Like when the chainsaw zombie is running after you and you are empty of all sort of ammo  He chopped off my head in the end btw  CharliWag 01-27-2009, 10:54 PM Blast! I have to wait until next week when it is added to the PSN. Sigh. Must resist.... Downloading it now, not hearing very good things about it.... Shane86 01-27-2009, 10:57 PM Didn't you say that the demo was awesome, Shane? I never liked the controls. Talkingship 01-28-2009, 12:15 AM REALLY un-impressed. We just got done talking about this on Talkingship SGCP # 8, so look for that when it comes out. Although #7 isn't even out yet, so bide you time. Dakkster 01-28-2009, 09:17 AM I think its time this franchise had a reboot. Its stupid not being able to move and shoot. The last game (RE4, not counting The Umbrella Chronicles) was the reboot of the series... Snaps 01-28-2009, 09:59 AM Shit was so terrible. The controls in RE4 were bad, but I remember picking up a gamecube controller and fighting bosses with little to no problem within the first hour. This just feels...wrong. I even changed the controls to the "RE4" setting and it still sucked. I miss the old Resident Evil games :( Darksied93 01-28-2009, 01:39 PM I don't mind the controls. I think it's something you have to get used to. But it's no reason to completely put off this game. I got used to the controls and I'm kicking zombie ass. Cody 01-28-2009, 01:42 PM That game looks awesome, the presentation is great but the menue/controls really suck! They might have worked back in the 90s when zombies were still zombies and moved like zombies are supposed to move but they dont work in a black hawk down scenario were hundreds of running madmen are after you...wtf??? In ResidentEvil5 the bad guys even use MOTORCYCLES and you cant shoot while moving? I think its kind of a bad joke :( Ventilaator 01-29-2009, 11:41 AM Awgeez I hate to read the negative opinions here, as I get to play the demo like next week. RE4 is to me one of the greatest games ever made, don't tell me they ****ed up the sequel... Cody 01-29-2009, 12:23 PM dont worry. If you loved RE4 I think you will like RE5. The gameplay is very similiar. I just dont like the fact that Capcom changed the "story/enemies/surroundings/looks/setting" of the series but the menue/controls feel totally out dated and clumsy. RE4 was very linear-you had to follow a path, kill a few infected farmers and your only partner was a little unarmed girl you had to protect. RE5 is more "badass". There are more enemies, your partner is armed and an important part of the gameplay and the levels are open and big-because of that I think RE5 deserves BETTER controls and menue-management than RE4 had. I think I īll get the 360 Version for the beautiful graphics and cut-scenes and pray for a Wii release to actually play it :) PillowFort 01-29-2009, 12:33 PM whuttup, biz-itches (http://sarcasticgamer.com/forums/blog.php?b=2831) The crux of my demo review is that if nothing else had come along since 4 it would be fine, but other games took what it did and improved upon it, thus by staying the same, RE5 has backpedalled. And now that I've summed it up you don't have to read it. Maybe I shouldn't have done that? MosEisley 01-29-2009, 01:23 PM whuttup, biz-itches (http://sarcasticgamer.com/forums/blog.php?b=2831) The crux of my demo review is that if nothing else had come along since 4 it would be fine, but other games took what it did and improved upon it, thus by staying the same, RE5 has backpedalled. And now that I've summed it up you don't have to read it. Maybe I shouldn't have done that? It's not really back pedaling in my opinion. The game doesn't play like most others, I mean just because every other 3rd person perspective game you have running and cover mechanics doesn't mean that it's standard. RE5 isn't trying to be Gears man and it shouldn't be. It's a change of pace and makes you play differently which is a breath of fresh air to me. Not every game is going to play the same. It's about being conservative and making the best judgment on when to use what. My only complaint besides the moronic A.I. is that you can't move backwards while you're aimed in... That's just silly. PillowFort 01-29-2009, 01:52 PM It's a control scheme issue more than one with the stylistic choice. I don't want to take cover in my RE4 game. Dude should be able to strafe, I can't see why they wouldn't change it. bodz5150 01-29-2009, 02:20 PM I'm glad to see I'm not the only one having issues with the handling. I just thought I sucked... ...well, I do, but that is beside the point. beekernuts 01-30-2009, 08:26 AM My biggest problem with the game is not the fact that I can not move and aim, it's that you see the characters do this in the cut scenes. It's like the developers are taunting me. Maul 01-30-2009, 02:55 PM Seriously dissapointed, it's not a horror it's just a shooter. You can't move and shoot, you can't blind fire and you have to hold the stick down to run. Would be ok in a horror, but not if you're trying to make a shooter. However I have to admit, it is the best looking game I have ever played. Grantly 01-30-2009, 08:30 PM I really love the demo. The game is beautiful, the gameplay is intense, and it's really fun. I don't mind not being able to move and shoot, though I would like to be able to reload while I was moving. I kind of like the item menu being in real time, it makes things a lot more tense, and you can swap guns with the D-Pad, so if you're in a hurry you don't have to stumble through your inventory. The partner AI is dumb as hell though. I takes all the ammo and just stands there when the chainsaw guy is running at her. |
