-Edit: There was a huge post on the Epic forums with LE owners furious about the release of the Golden Lancer as a free download. I don't think it was up long enough for google to make a cache of it since an admin deleted the entire thread. It got out of hand. They seem to be deleting all threads that have mention the Golden Lancer as a DL.

It might be that or If your age on the 360 is under 17 (18?) you can't download anything linked to an M rated game.

I was just about the post this, too. If I had bought the collector's edition, boy, would I be pissed right about now.

I bought the LE for the book and just to say, "I have the LE Gears of War 2", so I'm not mad at all that people got the Gold Lancer.

But I guess we'll be seeing a lot more golden chainsawing.

I'm not too bothered. I wanted the LE copy because I've never owned a LE copy of a game before, and the backstory of Gears was a good addition for me, as I hadn't played the original story. I wanted as much out of Gears 2 as I could, and I like the little extras you get with the LE version.
The bonus disc is great, so I'm not annoyed. It's actually a good thing, because I still feel happy seeing my gold gun being sprayed in crimson red as I tear through Locusts, and now other people can love it too, and I won't be targeted as much online anymore, because most people will have it also... :lol:

A Microsoft representative has informed Joystiq that the public availability of the Gears 2 Gold Lancer was made in error. Yesterday, we reported that the exclusive Collector's Edition weapon had appeared on the Xbox.com Marketplace for all to wield.

According to the rep, everyone who obtained the Gold Lancer from the Xbox.com Marketplace will have the item removed from their games in an upcoming fix, in order to keep the weapon exclusive to Gears 2 Collector's Edition consumers. "We're currently attempting a fix that will expire all codes that were unexpectedly released in error through Xbox LIVE Marketplace," the representative noted.

How Microsoft will remove (or possibly disable) the art asset file and differentiate between legitimate owners and those who grabbed the guns as they fell off the back of the truck is unclear. A request for clarification on how or when the fix would be implemented has gone unanswered, but we'll update you as soon as we know more.

Not 100% sure but they made something up about trying to make the code permanently available to the collectors edition owners then after realized the mistake they made. Also I think the patch will come with a game fix so they kinda force you into dling it.
