Personally I think smoking is just disgusting. It's one of the most stupid and disgusting habits anyone could have, and if I see a smoker, I just want to stay away from them. Now I have this friend, and he's one of the kinds of people who tries to fit in with the rest of the crowd at school, so for that reason he is very two-faced, vain and is obsessed with his image. He says "admit it, don't you think smoking makes you look cool." As I said before, he is always trying to fit in, so as a lot of people he hangs out with smoke, he obviously thinks it's a cool thing to do. I think it's quite the opposite, smoking makes you look repulsive. Of course, I say this as someone who has never smoked in my life, and never plans to, so what do you guys think about smoking, and do you think it makes you look cool?

Yeah man, I hate smokers, always pull me out of the safehouse.

While I don't really think it is a smart thing to do, I don't hate people that smoke or anything. It's a personal choice, and if it takes 10 years off their life, those years would just be the shitty years you have when you are like 85.

Really hate it, there is no benefit to starting it so what's the point of even trying? Thankfully the people who i hang around with look down on smokers, so trying to smoke to look cool would give the opposite effect.

Just glad that us Brits seem to be really trying to push smoking out, you can no longer smoke indoors in public places, there's pretty pictures of smokers lungs on the front of packs now and the minimum age to buy them has been raised to 18.

How old are you anyway tg1413?

Because 12 year olds talk about smoking like that, then they either start to smoke or grow really neutral about it. But I can tell you aren't neutral, you are strongly negative.

I started (and still smoke) in high school

I thought you were like 23, why are you still smoking in a high school? :p

If you avoid smoking (OP), good for you, and I suggest it, as it will lead to health problems when you are older.

But if you do live a smoke-free life, don't do as Legend does and "look down" on smokers, cause that just makes you look like a dick. Not everyone smokes to look cool. Many smoke because, well, it feels like chocolate wrapped in sex, to be blunt, not to mention it is addictive and quitting is one of the hardest things to do. Don't judge a person based on if they smoke or not (I may be mistaken but I do believe there was a South Park episode on the subject).

Personally, I am an "ex-smoker", and I use quotations in saying that I have quit many times before and come crawling back like a whimpering dog every time. Right now though, this is my longest attempt so far, at 4 months, and Im feeling good about it.

And, to the smoking population: Dont worry, I didnt leave a hole in the smoking world by me leaving. I got a 15 year old high school girl to start smoking to take my place.

I also recently quit my OTHER biggest vice too (That being World of Warcraft. Sold my character for $400 a month or so ago and I never looked back).

You seem determined man, so keep it up. But beware, you never know what will happen. When I was 12 I convinced both of my parents to quit (Well, Im sure they wanted to anyway), and then started myself when I was 13.

I'm deathly allergic to both smoke and tobacco. That being said, I don't hate people who smoke. Most people are decent enough to not do it around you when they find that out.

Although there are d-bags who decide it would be hilarious to blow smoke in the face of people like me. It's why every Thursday night I slink off in the shadows and take a human life as 'The Darwinian Avenger'- Improving the gene pool by removing people from it!

I don't hate people who smoke, I just hate the act of smoking. If I knew or met someone who did smoke, I wouldn't dislike them just because they smoked, I would probably just stand away from them if they felt the need to smoke, and I would probably just try and encourage them to stop.

Also to Killgraft: well done for staying smoke free for so long, and for selling your WoW character :)

Something funny has just popped up too, I'm seeing a lot of Quit Smoking adverts on the site, and even one on this very page. Well, it's only a coincidence.

I couldnt care less if you smoke or not, and I dont have a big problem against smoking either. I have smoked before, im not addicted, and I dont think it makes you look cool. I think its a nice thing to do at parties and stuff though just because at pubs and clubs its a fairly social thing to do, go outside for a cigeratte and talk to the other smokers, met some nice people doing that

You can not be alerigic to smoke. There is no allergen in it. It can be an irritant and irritate other health problems. But No one really is allergic to smoke, despite how much they insist they are.

If you are sensitive to it, then you might want to get that checked out becuase there may be something else going on.

Then you best talk to the two different doctors who I had to get my allergies tested with. According to my medical records, I am allergic to smoke.
Most people didn't know you could be allergic to cows and string beans, but I've got them too.

I've talked to quite a few doctors about it. They all use the word "Sensitive". You are Sensitive to it.

Plus I have read a lot about it.

I'm not saying it does not bother you, just saying that other things might be going on.

Cigarretes are made on purpose with chemicals that affect some parts in the brain that stimulates pleasure, and is addictive; a lot of smokers now that are hurting themselves, that they stink, that their teeth are turning black etc; but the addiction don let them think straight. Companies live from the addiction of others, they dont care who lives or die....

Tobacco companies are the devil. Tobacco is not addictive. The nicotine added to cigarettes are what get people addicted. Nicotine is one of the hardest drugs to quit. Lots of kids start smoking to look cool, and then they end up being addicted.

Good for you for not getting sucked in!

thetruth.com is a great site that you could have some of your friends check out. Some of the poisons that are in cigarettes and the things that tobacco companies do to promote and advertise and get more people addicted will make you sick to your stomach.

I don't smoke and don't really care if other people do. The one thing that does get me is when people disobey smoking rules/laws because they think lighting up is some right that NOBODY can dare take from them. If the law says not to smoke in a restaurant (Like in mine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_smoking_bans_in_the_United_States#.C2.A0Pe nnsylvania)) then smoke outside. That 5 minutes in the cold/hot isn't gonna kill you. (Well actually it will because you are smok... you get the point) Even if it's not a law has the courtesy to not expose everyone in the place (especially kids) to your smoke.

I hate people who smoke. its not attractive, makes you smell, teeth turn yellow, cancer, shortened life, ect. But they already know that. Also stop ****ing throwing your butts on the ground you littering pieces of ****. I'v tried to smoke and its disgusting. The fact that people get into because its cool show how weak minded they are ect. Now I don't act differently to people who smoke (I have many friends who do) but I always urge them to quit.

I have a couple of friends that smoke because they thought it would be cool when they were younger...and then they got hooked. I've been smart enough to avoid it, but I try not to harp about the dangers of smoking to them that much anymore. I've tried before and got a really negative response from all of them. I just make them tell me when they're about to light up so I can leave. They know how I feel about it.

I'm 17 and you'd be surprised how many kids my age actually don't smoke because of the risks behind it. I don't smoke because I grew up with my grandma who does. She's always had lung problems and think it's catching up with her. I don't want that.

Speaking as a recovering smoker...I want to first state this...don't look down on smokers just because they smoke. Quitting is not as easy as most non smokers think...it's not a matter of throwing the pack away and saying I'm done. Before this attempt of quitting, I had been smoking for six years and lost count how many times I tried quitting, and I tried everything.

It's called a habit because..well, it's a habit. All the nicotene controls that our out there (lozenges, patches, gum, and the like) only kill the symptoms of nicotine withdrawl, it doesn't kill the habits that smokers get into a routine doing. You drink, you want a cigarette. When you wake up, you want a cigarette. You drive, you want a cigarette.

Those are examples...I've been moderately smoke free for 34 days now (had a few slip ups where I had one, and didn't even finish), but those routines are still attacking my mind.

The best thing to do to get people to stop is to educate those that don't on ALL aspects of smoking, support those that want to quit, and educate those that don't want to quit on the benefits. Don't attack them, but ask them why.

As far as the cool factor, there's only two situations where smoking can be cool. You're a trench coat wearing private eye, or you use a really, really big gun.

I smoke, I know the effects and all that crap and I don't care.. But its the kind of thing you can't appreciate until you're hooked, It really helps to relieve stress(I'm only 18 i shouldn't be stressed )
Whatever People say it does feel nice, Obviously its not going to feel nice the first time you do it because it is a new experience... I'm not saying you should start, But once you get out in the big wide world any little means of escape is needed be it a ciggarette or a shotgun in the mouth:lol:

I wouldn't ever do that. Looking down on some one because they smoke is really bad. Just because of a habit they have doesn't make them any less of a person. I realize how hard it is for long time smokers to quit (and I commend you for doing so yourself), but I think it's rather foolish for them to keep smoking, knowing exactly what it's doing to their bodies. It's not just your lungs that get affected either. The damage can spread into your blood stream and take out other organs, including your heart...and this information is readily available to all smokers (and non-smokers) who choose to find it.

I probably can't understand how hard it is to quit, not having smoked at all in my life...but I can speak for my grandmother, who still smokes to this day and is suffering for it. I can also speak for my father, who quit cold turkey after many years of smoking for the exact same reasons I outlined above. This is a very touchy subject for me because I lost my uncle due to lung cancer and I'm on the verge of losing my grandma...all because they failed to even try.

And i don't think smoking is ever cool...even if you're a private eye or have a big gun. no argument will ever sway me to think otherwise.

I don't smoke but I do have one or two at parties as it's sociable to. But no more than a pack a month at most, less in winter its too cold

I would say most of my friends smoke but the years you lose are from about 70 - 90 which aren't exactly the best years of your life.

People looking down on people who smoke just because they smoke (you need a good reason like they're black or a woman) (i was joking there) is wrong. It is hard to quit smoking the nicotine in the cigarettes(or cigars if you like something long and thick in your mouth) stimulates the part of your brain that feels pleasure. It also will cause your brain to need a nicotine fix if stress becomes too bad or if you become unhappy.

I really don't mind smokers whether they smoke near me or not the only thing I have a problem is pregnant women smoking, as it can influence the baby or smoking near young children. In the end it's their choice if they want to smoke and you shouldn't dislike them if they cannot quit.
