What is the deal?

Recently I have been noticing games that are either one player with no online support or only multiplayer. For example the new Transformer game is one player with no mulitplayer support or what about Shadowrun with no one player support. Shadowrun can be fun but I am not shelling out 60 bucks for something that I can only play online and I'm not shelling out 60 bucks for something I can't play online like Transformers. By the way I know Transformers isn't good enough to want to shell out 60 bucks for anyways but it serves as a good example in my argument.

What about Dirt a good racing game that only offers one player, do they think that gamers are so socially challenged that no one wants to get together and race in person?

Personally I want to see more games like Gears Of War where you can play the story not only by yourself but with a friend either in person or online and also the multiplayer is nice because you and a friend can both play online, why can't they make more games like that!

there are actually plent of games like that shadowrun is the only multiplayer only game. and many games with only singleplayer still kick ass-oblivion for example.

I realize in the PC realm there are plenty of only miltiplayer games but they don't cost $50 $60 a pop. I don't mind laying down $20 for a pc game that is only miltiplayer, plus the PC has many advantages over consoles in that field. Modding for one is a great asset to PCs, even though Xbox is trying to catch up in that field it is still very very lacking. More players is another one, I have never had trouble finding servers for Wolfenstien, Counter Strike, or Day of Defeat, but when I rented Shadowrun it would take 10-15 to find a game or sometimes not find one at all.

I like my games to have both but sometime the multiplayer feels quickly slapped on and boring to play. With multiplayer I feel like I'm getting more for my money but if the main draw is the single player then they should not waste time with a few death match and CTF maps till that part of the game is done

The way I look at it is the single player gets you to buy the game and the multiplayer keeps you playing it after your done with single. RPGs are a good example that a good single player story is what drives the choice to buy the game.
