If you’re a PSP gamer you’ve probably noticed the major lack of big name games to look forward to in 2009 and beyond. Hell, there’s a lack of games to look forward to period, big name or not. Developers have been treating the PSP like that hot girl (or boy) everybody found out has crabs (piracy).
Thankfully, Sony has finally (took their damn time) stepped up and given PSP gamers something to look forward to; new(ish) big name PSP games!
Find out all the details after the jump!
The news out of this week’s annual Destination Playstation event is that the PSP is going to get seven new games you may, or may not, get excited about.
First up we have Rock Band Unplugged, which will feature Wi-Fi support, and a “fully-featured in-game store.” Ummm…what? Rock Band on PSP? Your guess is as good as mine on how this game will actually be played. I doubt anyone would want to carry around a Rock Band guitar to play on their PSP, which means some incredibly lame gameplay mechanics are probably going to be used to allow play on the PSP. Which, to put it as bluntly as possible, sounds stupid. Who the hell wants to play Rock Band WITHOUT a guitar?! Nobody, that’s who!
Rothbart already beat me to the punch on MotorStorm: Arctic Edge (http://sarcasticgamer.com/wp/index.php/2009/02/motorstorm-arctic-edge-too-cool-for-ps3.html). All I will say is that if it turns out to be good on the PSP, I’ll probably pick it up since I have yet to buy Pacific Rift for the PS3 yet.
LittleBigPlanet was destined to make its way to the PSP, it was just a matter of time. The PSP version will feature brand new levels and environments made specifically for the PSP and will of course focus on playing, creating and sharing levels, just like the PS3 version. Now this is a game I have been waiting for them to announce since I first played LBP on the PS3, and as long as they ensure the creation tools and online setup for the PSP version are done right, I can’t think of any way this game will not be fantastic. Mind you “portable SackBoy” still does not sound right…
Madden NFL 10 is also on its way, but given how poor the previous PSP Madden titles were, imho, who cares? Madden NFL 09 & 08 were “decent,” but hardly anything to right home about. If Madden NFL10 can even break a score of 80 on Metacritic (none of them have yet)* I’ll be shocked. Building your own formations and plays from the ground up sounds nice, and the ability to use the games PSP to PS3 connectivity to download your plays and perfect them on your console does sound cool, but a little backwards. Why wouldn’t I just play…my plays…on a PS3 version of Madden NFL 10? Call me crazy, but I don’t get it.
