The reviews are in for Assassin’s Creed and….Oh, my, G..G…G..Gawd! 67 out of 100? 77 out of 100? I thought this game was supposed to be the first “truly next gen game?”

Read the rest after the jump!

Damn you Ubisoft (http://sarcasticgamer.com/wp/index.php/category/ubisoft) for using hot ladies like Jade Raymond to sell this mediocre title to us…

*using best Cpt. Kirk voice from Wrath of Kahn*

JAAAAAAAAAAAAAAADE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, I’m calming down. Let’s take a closer look at these reviews. Who said what to whom and why.

Metacritic has the game at an 84 out of 100. Gamepro (of course) gave the game a score of 100 out of 100. So did Game Informer. They also said that they didn’t actually play the game. I kid, I kid. Not really.
The next credible review (http://sarcasticgamer.com/wp/index.php/category/review) comes from Gamespot, who gave it a 90 out of 100. They said:
In Assassin’s Creed, the greatest joy comes from the smallest details, and for every nerve-racking battle, there’s a quiet moment that cuts to the game’s heart and soul.
Creepy.

Next up is everbody’s favorite IGN, and I’m not just saying that because I was paid to… They gave it a 77 out of 100. IGN said that it was repetitive and had a ton of graphical errors, such as tearing and pop-in.

Finally Gamespy and 1Up both gave it a 70 for boring fetch quests and repetitive gameplay.

Almost all of the reviews blasted the big story “twist” that comes within the first five minutes of the game, which ultimately ends up detracting from the entire game. Most reviews said that the ending is kind of hollow which was ripe for a …. wait for it… sequel.

Presumptuous?

WoW (http://sarcasticgamer.com/wp/index.php/category/world-of-warcraft/wow). Raise your hands if you thought it was going to be a masterpiece? For those that raised their hands, now I know who not to take to Vegas with me.

Next up: Crysis (http://sarcasticgamer.com/wp/index.php/category/crysis)!!!

I lost all hope for this game when I saw it at the Microsoft E3 press conference this summer.

Looked like a buggy, boring pile of crap. If the huge crowd of dudes had attacked Altair all at once and he had to frantically slice his way out and then had to use his contacts to track down his mark after losing him I would have been far more impressed. Instead the thugs attacked one at a time and the mark waited for Altair to catch up.

Bad game design and overall crappy game. Would have been better off making yet another Prince of Persia Ubisoft.

I'm with ya Lono - I was all excited to get this one. - Now it could be a rental at best, and I don't rent! I'll probably try it along with games like Timeshift and Stranglehold when we get into a gaming lull again.

It's just a damn shame.

I read through numerous reviews and I think most of them are spitting out piles of crap from their mouths. I think the concept and implementation of this game is amazing, it looks beautiful and it's got a lot of funky innovations that will have people going back for more.

The few issues, sometimes the crowds don't move perfectly... big deal! There are thousands of individuals in the city, what can you expect? The sword combat system is one at a time... welcome to the real world people. Take a look at most historical combat and you won't find a massive free for all of swords and knives, battles usually ended up being small one on ones even though there were plenty waiting in line.

I think GameSpots review was just about dead on. They had the most intelligent review that I've read (and watched, Vid Review) that didn't seem like it was done by a 15 year old.

i have already preordered it and dont usually rely on reviews to tell me which game to buy. i was intersted in this game for a long time and i imagine it will be a good game maybe even great but i don't want to overhype it personally [though it will be great] and if its not. so be it. il trade it in for another game like mass effect

After playing quite a bit of the game, I think I can put a little bit of perspective. Perfect game ever? No. Game of the Year? Probably not. It is quite solid at what it delivers, though. I'd probably give it somewhere around 8/10.
As for it being repetetive.. that's certainly possible. Though considering 3 of my 4 purchases since September have been FPS games (Halo 3, Orange Box, CoD4), I was a bit washed out by the repetetive nature of those games. Oh, and Naruto: Rise of a Ninja - much, much more repetetive than Assassin's Creed.
The sword combat isn't one at a time, I've had plenty of times where two or three enemies attacked me at once. Had I not deflected/countered, I would've been in a world of pain. Some people will say the one-button combat is repetetive. Sure, if you never use counters or grabs, or even combo kills. Any game would get old if you use the most basic of the combat, this game gives you many, many different options of how you want to apporach fights and your assassinations.
The graphics look quite good. As good as Gears? Hell no, that game spoiled every single one of you into thinking all games have to look like that. I'd say AC looks a bit better than Oblivion, with a little less pop-in. I have no problems with that.
I'm happy with the purchase. Sure, I could've rented it and beaten it in the 5 day window, but I'm not rushing through it. I know some people beat it the day it came out in like a 10-hour session doing nothing more than what was needed to beat the game. Good for them, that's how you ruin a game for yourself. This game will be a fine waste of time until Mass Effect is released, and one I'm sure I'll go back to so I can scoop up the last few achievements.

i have been telling people who go on about the game it looks like a dressed up version of Tenchu Z, i seem to get a bit of hate over it - but you can't really say until you play !
(but it sounds like i'm right :D)

Geez, you'd think we were talking Shadowrun 2 here.
So it's not perfect and is just a rental. That's why I use GamFly (when will they start paying me for praising them? lol). It still sounds good enough for me to use a GF slot to rent it. Though I may have to fly through it and get A.C. back in time for Mass Effect.

There is a very good reason I don't EVER base my game purchases off of reviews alone. Reviewers have been completely wrong about any number of titles. I'm still gonna give this game a chance.

The videos still look great, and fun.

This game honestly looked pretty damn good.

But from all the reviews etc. which have been popping up lately it just seems well.. crap would be the word which comes to mind.

I preordered Assassin's Creed, but have yet to make it to the store to pick it up. To be honest, this one won't see much play at first, what with Mass Effect coming out next week ... and I have yet to get into the CoD 4 multiplayer ... and The Simpsons Game is still only half finished ...

The reviews are disappointing, but I have to agree with Pacman Polar Bear as to the value of reviews. I find that there's a lot of inconsistency in review scores of 6 to 8 (out of 10). A game that gets 5 or less is generally not very good. A game that gets 9 or higher is often good. However, that 6 - 8 range tends to be where underrated games can fall.

Just my $0.02,

CR

Find a reviewer that you tend to share perspectives with and then the reviews make a lot more sense.

eg: listen to what the sarcastic gamer guys have to say about new releases etc.
