Bryce 03-09-2009, 11:46 PM Got this on itunes, good show so far only about half done
Nitz3r 03-10-2009, 02:05 AM I agree with Doc on the standardized control scheme issue. Features in each game varies so much that the only buttons you could really standardize are wasd, mouselook, fire, reload, zoom and crouch. Every other button could vary largely based on the game features. Do you have 1, 2, 3 or 4 kinds of grenades? How do you change between them? Is there a minimap controller shortcut? How do you activate the game's gimmick feature (nectar in Haze, time control in Time Shift, etc)
A PS3 has 17 programmable buttons, excluding the start button. With only 6 real standards (mentioned above,) you're left with 11 other keys to somehow standardize. If the game developers are unable provide a good controller scheme either adapt or don't play
edit: here's the link for Space Game (http://www.casualcollective.com/games/The_Space_Game) as mentioned in the podcast
Ploogle 03-10-2009, 03:10 AM Great show! Are you guys really going to stop doing Martini Time? PLEASE DON'T. That's like, a key part of the show. It's just how it IS: Dave takes us out, "Cue the music!", and then someone screws up the martini time jokes.
Ventilaator 03-10-2009, 03:40 AM I love the space game now. I have no idea why. It is just another tower defense game, it doesn't have anything I haven't seen before, and yet I can't stop playing it.
Shane86 03-10-2009, 05:57 AM 60% of the time, Anchorman time works every time!
Lono_Lives 03-10-2009, 07:38 AM Great show! Are you guys really going to stop doing Martini Time? PLEASE DON'T. That's like, a key part of the show. It's just how it IS: Dave takes us out, "Cue the music!", and then someone screws up the martini time jokes.
No, we're not going to stop martini time.
Great to hear about some Wii stuff on the podcast!
People called me a fanboy for recommending HOTD Overkill in the comments lately
Great game, awesome presentation.
Did you watch the intro of the Jailhouse-stage, Lono?
The guy who pisses himself haha
A Rabid Moose 03-10-2009, 08:48 AM I agree with Lono in the sense that I think all FPS games should have the option to change the controls to whatever you want. Not necessarily a universal control scheme.
MosEisley 03-10-2009, 09:48 AM If you're going to implement a good 6 presets of controls into a game then it obviously means that they were anticipating people not being comfortable with the default controls and if you're going to do that then it should be 100% customizable. You shouldn't have to pick from a list... that's like the developer saying "here's 6 different control schemes... if you can't find one that fits to your liking oh ****ing well." Doesn't really make much sense in my opinion...
Whoever said that about Street Fighter IV's "broken" online multiplayer obviously didn't spend more then 10 minutes in it. It's not broken and the only thing that takes a good amount of time is when you're going through quick matches and that's because the rooms are FULL... Now maybe I'M the idiot but wouldn't that mean that a lot of people were playing the game? Looks like it to me. If you don't want to wait create a lobby, custom search or use in my opinion one of the greatest features the match request option. I can't get over how nice of a feature that is. Just pop on arcade and wait for the noobs to come to you haha.
House of the Dead: Overkill, Haven't played it because I don't own a Wii but I just felt the need to say that I'm still dying for a light gun 360 game.
Omega 03-10-2009, 10:13 AM yeah fiddy! Yeah!
SaintMantooth 03-10-2009, 10:27 AM wtf! Signing off with Anchorman is OUR bit! Friggin stealing from your community podcasts  If you don't believe me, just take a step back and analyze our podcast name... Panda Watch podcast.....
Anyway, great show, as always! I listen to it at work and I always bust up laughing. People look at me funny. They just don't understand.
Drixion 03-10-2009, 10:57 AM I'm thinking a standardized control scheme would be the way to go (just don't know how to do it). I come from a PC background and picking up any fps on console seems like a new game each time with a new learning curve for each. An Fps on PC seems to have a much smaller (basically on a more reaction time level) learning curve. PC's are set up with the left hand on WASD to move and the right on the mouse to aim. The right hand only fires (left and right clicks) and all the selects ext are with the left. This seem to be a much cleaner method with little interference to aim (no holding down 3 inputs at once to pull off a move). Is this possible on the console? I don't really know due to the inherently less actuate input and button limitations (console RTS anyone?) but it would be great if it did. The best possible solution would be a totally configurable solution for each game on console (something tied to gamertag/ID would be great but pie-in-the-sky). My 0.02.
Lono_Lives 03-10-2009, 11:28 AM would it kill Guerrilla Games to map the crouch/cover button to the X button ala Gears of War?
darkwonders 03-10-2009, 11:48 AM I don't mind the crouch button on L2
I have the crouch on COD mapped to the right stick because I tend to crouch/go prone more than I knife people, so it feels more natural to me...
Lono_Lives 03-10-2009, 11:50 AM I have the crouch on COD mapped to the right stick because I tend to crouch/go prone more than I knife people, so it feels more natural to me...
me too.
darkwonders 03-10-2009, 12:17 PM would it kill Guerrilla Games to map the crouch/cover button to the X button ala Gears of War?
were you talking about the single player where you have to hold it to crouch?
I haven't played any of it yet so I wouldn't really know how it feels.
Diortem 03-10-2009, 12:25 PM Now Lono... after Shawn White has shown the board to have fun capabilities... let me ask you something....
Should we ammas some sigs to get Wiiboard support for Dead Space Wii? I know the idea makes me smile....

The thing would break. Or, stomped to death.
Lokela 03-10-2009, 12:40 PM were you talking about the single player where you have to hold it to crouch?
I haven't played any of it yet so I wouldn't really know how it feels.
They do allow you to set the crouch either to hold to crouch, or press once to crouch and press again to un-crouch.
Diortem 03-10-2009, 01:18 PM The thing would break. Or, stomped to death.
why? think how wii fit uses it.... step up and down like a stair master... now imagine that control instead controlling ducking behind cover (where available)... and stand on it when normal standing... hell you might even get a little room leaning, but this being a rail shooter, Im not counting on it.

Dead Space is a horror game. When a monster is down you use the stomp move to make it stay down. Maybe that move will make it to the Wii version. Now, combine that with the billion "Oops, I threw my Wiimote at the TV" and "Lolnoob plays scary game and gets freaked out" and tell me there's no chance some people would stomp on that thing like idiots when trying to do the stomp move...

Perhaps a Gears of War Wii? You could saw enemies in half with the Wiimote, and curb-stomp with the board.
Gibbonator 03-10-2009, 02:36 PM I think its slightly controversial with the 'mature' titles because
they are mainly there for the parents information
BUT on the other hand like you said, it makes children want them more.
To me though, the most obvious thing is that the parents should be responsible
and if it says '18' on the cover art, they shouldn't let their child play the damn thing!
Diortem 03-10-2009, 02:44 PM Perhaps a Gears of War Wii? You could saw enemies in half with the Wiimote, and curb-stomp with the board.
No, that would break the board... but say, dive behind the waist-high cover, lift your wiimote over and spread fire over the wall like that would work
Was I the only one who noticed the glaring exaggeration on Lono's part with regards to the 'dumb' Street Fighter 4 comment?
PopTrogdor 03-10-2009, 03:16 PM yay shoutouts in the red and blu show!...Both to do with me drilling people for disliking something to do with Killzone 2...I don't know whether to be happy or sad :P
ImNotEmo 03-10-2009, 03:19 PM Just saying, regaurding the start of the show.
igloos are not used as homes, they are used as a last resort of servival if your lost in the snow. they're used to block the wind from freezing you at night.
how do i know for sure?
i live in alaska and i had to learn how to build one for my servival class
i also learned how to kill a bear with one bullet!
Lono_Lives 03-10-2009, 03:53 PM Was I the only one who noticed the glaring exaggeration on Lono's part with regards to the 'dumb' Street Fighter 4 comment?
Isn't an exaggeration supposed to be glaring? I mean, I exaggerated it right?
Isn't an exaggeration supposed to be glaring? I mean, I exaggerated it right?
Maybe I used the wrong adjective  I thought glaring meant it stuck out.
Nevertheless... oh who cares? lol that put me off.
GameKitty 03-10-2009, 07:03 PM Time for a pants party anyone?
Hungry Luma 03-10-2009, 07:06 PM I'm glad Martini Time isn't ending. I can not bear Anchorman quotes every week.
Anyway though great show. Now Im gonna go play the Space Game.
PopTrogdor 03-10-2009, 07:18 PM Time for a pants party anyone?
Wait, let me get this straight, are you inviting me to a party in your pants?
Oh my god. I just watched anchorman and now I understand so many things about this website
Ploogle 03-10-2009, 07:30 PM I've listened to it 2.5 times. :D So good.
Shane86 03-10-2009, 07:42 PM yay shoutouts in the red and blu show!...Both to do with me drilling people for disliking something to do with Killzone 2...I don't know whether to be happy or sad :P
I've never got a shout-out on the red show :( I'm just not pathetic enough to ask for one like Ploogle does.
godslabrat 03-10-2009, 09:51 PM I think the matter of "The Scarlet Letter" making an M-rated game more attractive is a non-argument. Kids are always going to be impressed by what they're not supposed to have. Part of raising them is making them realize that certain types of entertainment are only appropriate in certain circumstances. Games and movies with mature themes are reserved for use by people who have lived long enough to understand the difference between entertainment and reality. Don't hide the fact that the game is restricted, let them know that games are a privilege, not a right, and it's something they can earn after years of being responsible.
Anyway, I kind of like the idea of TRU using a hit-the-parents-over-the-head warning. For decades, every time we make a system that tries to educate parents, said parents ignore the system en masse. A Scarlet Letter system strongly redirects blame to where it belongs.
Ploogle 03-11-2009, 12:03 AM I have a better system than the TRU one.
Whenever a household acquires a child (by birth, adoption, etc) an agent will be assigned to monitor all activity. If the child is underage and is caught playing an M rated game, a few things could happen:
1) The agent springs into action and destroys the device.
2) The child is sent to Juvenile Detention for 3 months.
3) The child is removed from the parents' home.
4) A news broadcast will detail the parents' carelessness and stupidity.
5) Agent moves on to next family.

Not true. We've given you itunes shout outs.
PopTrogdor 03-11-2009, 08:50 AM thats true shane, i have heard you on their itunes shoutouts :D

I couldn't agree more.

That was the blue show
GammaFist 03-11-2009, 01:48 PM I think that what ToysRus is doing is stupid!

That would rightly be a call to arms for all militia and extremist groups. **** THE SYSTEM
lilgamer 03-13-2009, 08:24 PM my favorite podcast ever i listen to it every week its awsome keep up the godd work and achorman time lol!!!
The HNL 03-14-2009, 06:16 PM I think it's wrong to restrict M rated game sales to miners. I mean, they spend all day working in dark, dank shafts, and they can't even buy the games they want.
If I worked in a mine, I'd want to come home and slap some breasts around and kill people on XBL.

I wouldn't let MINERS play it either, now with their dirty coal miner hands and black lung coughing... LOL.
