mynameshouldntmatter 03-25-2009, 04:54 AM That was fast.
MeRcEnArY 03-25-2009, 08:36 AM People just want an excuse to complain about ResE5, I personaly dont like the game but im not trying to jump all over it.
The people who complain about it need to grow up, there is nothing wrong with the game (besides the controls  )
Your right on about the GTA4 comments, there is no reason why people should be picking on ResE5 when GTA4 shoould come accross as more offensive.
Good show guys. Keep up the good work
Shane86 03-25-2009, 09:20 AM In Chapter 3, I'm not sure how the virus makes the zombies want to wear tribal dress and masks, I think if that was shown in the demo the controversy would be even worse.
MosEisley 03-25-2009, 10:43 AM When doing the rotten egg hand off, make sure that you don't pass them along in the organize screen because it saves when you back out instantly. Big thanks to Juiced for giving me some rotten eggs so I could fully upgrade my Hydra, it's such a beast.
Bandus is the man, he's the first person I played a full stage of RE5 co-op with and it was incredibly fun.
Great episode guys.

If you read the files located throughout the "tribal" levels. It describes (i only read them once so i may not be entirely correct) how a doctor came to the village, and provided a new "serum" for a common sickness that was spreading. From the eyes of a particular child, apparently the adults started wearing old tribal clothes and performing acts of violence AS A RESULT of this new "serum". All this leading up to the situation you approach as Chris.
so apparently, this doctor was no real doctor at all. and he made the modern tribes decide to kick it in their old school threads and start killing each other.
solid HDUD:thumbsup:
demon assassins 03-25-2009, 04:20 PM Good show. Thank you for not make this another resident evil 5 podcast. Thanks to you guys im thinking about buying it because now I have gotten the hang of standing still by playing the demo. (ppl playing it really suck at staying alive). I wish I could see Lono's face during wow:lol:.
choco 03-25-2009, 04:52 PM good show as always guys! Nice to see it up on Wednesday again!
lmarcel9 03-25-2009, 05:10 PM Great show guys. I still dont get it with people bashing RE5. It just doesnt make sense to me. I didnt even notice the skin color when I played through the demo. I didn't hear anyone saying anything about the spanish zombies in RE4.
TylDurden 03-25-2009, 06:37 PM Nice show, the whiners complaining about racism in games and profiling need to get a life. You guys mentioned Cole Train and ppl did complain about him, I even heard ppl complained about RE4, I was out of the country at the time but I guess someone somewhere must have even complained about that, oh well, they're the ones with egg on their face.
Good job on getting the 'cast up so quick, Mr. Dave. Good show.
photomaster94 03-25-2009, 09:21 PM stop talking about RE5. we get it. it is fun it is not racist. move on! also i did not laugh once. wats up with that

As someone who sided with SG Blue, I have disowned you and will not answer your questions. :lipssealed:
Raven 03-25-2009, 09:40 PM In all honesty though, RE5 is pretty much the only thing happening in gaming at the moment besides GDC. I enjoy the RE5 talk and it keeps pushing me towards buying it when my paycheck comes in a week.

solid HDUD:thumbsup:I did read that, still doesn't explain why they went back to wearing ancient tribal clothes.

An old roommate of mine didn't laugh for a while. Turns out he had herpes. soooooooooo, maybe you have a tumor.
Nitz3r 03-26-2009, 12:32 AM Diablo for the PSX had the same item dupe method available. P1 drops all items and doesn't save. P2 picks up all items and does save. Rinse and repeat
Lono_Lives 03-26-2009, 01:25 AM I did read that, still doesn't explain why they went back to wearing ancient tribal clothes.
It does discuss them going back to the old ways and "regressing." Read it again.

Yeah, I agree, they should completely stop discussing the games that they're currently playing. How DARE they do such a thing!
They didn't even make you laugh? Well if that doesn't warrant a podcast special about all the things that you want to hear them talk about, I don't know what does.
 Take it easy man.
Artemas 03-26-2009, 09:11 AM I wish I knew about the egg glitch before putting 20 hours into that stupid temple level. I can do the level backwards with my eye closed now:sad:
I did read that, still doesn't explain why they went back to wearing ancient tribal clothes.
I'm pretty sure a lot of countries (Africa included) still have primitive( I say that reluctantly) tribes in existence.
MosEisley 03-26-2009, 10:34 AM I'm pretty sure a lot of countries (Africa included) still have primitive( I say that reluctantly) tribes in existence.
I'm also pretty sure that they just used it to give you different looking people who could have something held secure in front of them to bring up the challenge a bit. Look to me this is incredibly stupid and I feel like people will just look for the smallest details to get riled up over and it's not worth it.
Besides you do not just play as Chris Redfield, as a matter a fact I've played with a ton of people who love Sheva! She's a really good character with a good feel to her.
There was never any mention of her, why is that? Sounds more to me like the people claiming RE5 to be racist are a little racist themselves... Telling Chris Redfield he can't do something based on the color of his skin?:lol:
If all the zombies looked the same you would be bored. To me these allegations of saying that RE5 is racist is to such a ridiculous degree that I wouldn't be surprised if PETA threw their hats in the ring and started calling it the devil because you can kill dogs and chickens in it.
Artemas 03-26-2009, 12:41 PM that I wouldn't be surprised if PETA threw their hats in the ring and started calling it the devil because you can kill dogs and chickens in it.
Stop giving them ideas! It was on 360 fanboy earlier this week that PETA was now targeting COD:WaW.

kim andre 03-26-2009, 04:04 PM a good episode folks :) ceep up the good work
GamerPaul 04-06-2009, 06:16 PM It does discuss them going back to the old ways and "regressing." Read it again. It is implied that they regressed; they never say it out loud, but it is pretty obvious. They do give a reason why they would go back to wearing tribal garb, but is that alright? So it is alright for someone to use a racial stereotype because they have some very silly reason for it? Last I checked zombies usually don't care what they are wearing as long as they can get their next meal so what the diary says is just some lame excuse to use a racial stereotype to add variety to the enemies.
I think many agree that RE5 is not racist, but the way they handled the setting and perceived racial themes was very sloppy. Yes, black people can become zombies, no shit. That isn't the point the point is that the U.S. has a long history of racism, slavery, civil rights etc which is why you didn't hear that much outcry about RE4 and the massacre of Spaniards in that game.
So when you take RE5 out of context and see a white man shooting a black person there will be perceived racist imagery that hearkens back to the days of slavery and racism. Which is the response N'Gai Croal had when he saw the first trailer which doesn't give you any type of context that these people have turned into zombies. If a random person were to see this trailer and didn't know anything about the RE series they would think this game is racist.
The fact that racism has been brought up in a video game whether it was justified or not is a positive in the hopes that it inspires developers to tell sophisticated and mature stories in video games.
The podcast overall was really good I just think there was some misplaced response and overreaction when calling out Patrick Klepek as if he was intentially trying to be some condescending smart ass which he wasn't. Who here has experienced racism? Your life experiences shapes your beliefs and that is what Patrick was saying. He never experienced racism or racial diversity before so when a topic on racism is presented it is hard to form any type of strong opinion about it besides the usually lecture you get in school that it is wrong. How you feel about racism differs depending on whether or not you have experienced it before.

I wasn't calling out Klepeck. I was calling out Arthur. I think that you have valid points, but a lot more generalization than is realistic in my opinion.

That's a rockin' outfit. I need to get over to Target and pick myself up one of those.
GamerPaul 04-09-2009, 02:27 AM I wasn't calling out Klepeck. I was calling out Arthur. I think that you have valid points, but a lot more generalization than is realistic in my opinion. I think we are talking about different podcasts. I was referring to the ListenUp episode before GDC that had N'Gai Croal, Garnet Lee, Patrick Klepek and David Ellis. Your talking about the Rebel FM episode if I'm not mistaken.
I just wonder what the point was for the RE5 team to go to Africa if they weren't trying create a realistic representation of Africa. The Africa in RE5 is fiction so why take all the time and energy to go to Africa when there is already so much material about that continent. Which is what N'Gai was trying to get at when he said they didn't do enough research like where did they see Africans wearing tribal garb in their visits to North Africa?

It's a moot point. It's a fictional land in a game based around fiction...N'Gai's point is meaningless, but the mouthbreathers on the show wouldn't dare question him.
BlueCollarGamer 04-24-2009, 06:44 AM I have played though RE5 a number of times now. I do not think the game promotes racist themes at all. I think those people that do think the game is a racial fulled themed game are just looking for a hot topic issue.
I do not here anyone putting down 50 Cent: Blood in the Sand as a racist themed game. Everything I have heard about that game has been a stereotypical gangbanger action.
I did see one moment that still strikes me as odd in RE5. Close to the start of the game there is a scene where you must save an attractive blue eyed blonde white woman from the infected Africans. While it is not unheard of for Africa to have blue eyed blonde white women to live there, it is odd that that is the only one in the game and that it has to be emphasize with a cut scene.
But all in all just a good game.
