OnLive just for PC? I dont think so, man....

Plus to PC: no more upgrades.
Plus to console: PC exclusives now on the TV (seriously, Im waiting to see Warhammer Online being a launch for this) at HIGHEST SETTINGS.

And the big plus... platform barrier DEAD.

It didn't take very long for the Xbox 360 to turn a profit. The console started to see profits somewhere around Q3 of 2007. The console launched in Q4 in late 05. A year & a half is not to bad considering the consoles life cycle is expected to go 10 years although I see it being 7 at the most. The PS3 will not see a profit until at least 2011 if the price drop doesn't happen soon .

Microsoft does an excellent job with there marketing & they are very helpful to all developers. They will help market a third party game & have even helped to publish some. This is something that Sony is not doing very much of. No where near how they were with the PS2. It's hurting them & it one of the main reasons they have lost so many former console exclusive titles to the Xbox 360. With these current times, developers will lean towards the company that will help them as much as they can & at the moment, that is Microsoft.

The Xbox 360 suffers most of its RROD's from the crappy PowerPC CPU that it uses. I knew there was going to be a problem well before the Xbox 360 hit once it was announced that the Xbox 360 would be using the IBM PPC CPU. PowerPC CPU's were notorious for running incredibly hot & not performing very well at all. It's two of the many reasons Apple dropped them in favor of Intel .

I do not rule out being lucky as the reason why my launch Xbox 360 still runs great but I do take a few pre cautions to assure that it is always in the best condition possible. I run the console in my game room which is always stabilized at around 60F. I have the console placed on top of a sheet of Fiber glass in a well spaced area. Nearest wall is about 2 feet away (back wall).

I have the console in the vertical position for a few reasons. I did a lot of research about how heat works in PC's which is something I learned when I took physics. Most already know that heat rises. When it comes to electronics, it's well known that most of this heat can become trapped depending on dimensions of the object in question. Another thing to note about the Xbox 360 is that it uses a passive cooling solution on the CPU & GPU.

When the console is in the vertical position, there is less hot air being trapped as the top of the console has a much smaller area to work with. The vent holes being so near helps most of that hot escape from the system. Hot air can also get trapped on the bottom of the system but for the same reason as the top, there is less area to work with so more escapes the system. This is a different situation when the console is in the horizontal position. Your top & bottom areas are now much more wider.

All of the heat that the Xbox 360 produces is found in the center of the console where the CPU & GPU is. The fans located on the rear of the console did not do a good enough job pulling all of the hot air regardless of using a BTX style of cooling. What would happen is the hot air would get trapped over the CPU. Remember that the heatsink on both the CPU & GPU are passive so the heat being produced by both are not being pulled directly off of the chips. Overtime, the CPU gets to hot that it either just shuts down or causes an RROD.

Other RROD issues can simply be user errors. Some ran the console on carpets, some jammed it in tight areas with no kind of ventilation, many did not do a burn in process & simply ran the console as hard as possible until it crapped out. In no way am I defending the Xbox 360 for its issues. It was a poorly designed with having a CPU that is known to run very hot & not having a proper cooling solution for it. I'm sure they learned there lesson & you can bet that they will not be going with a PowerPC CPU next time around.

Very good show as always but way too damn SHORT as always! Find a way to extend the length :) Size Matters!

Also good discussion and response from Pacman on the "PS3 Struggling" discussion.

I've never understood how selling 20 Million consoles at a $400+ price and 250,000 consoles a month could be considered struggling?

If you look at the 360 it's $200 and it only sold about $125,000 more in the NPDs. It would seem like the 360 is struggling more seeing as it's cheaper than both the PS3 and Wii and it's not outselling any console even 2:1! If you're half the price should you be selling 2 consoles for every console price twice as much minimum? I mean the wii is $50 more expensive and it's outselling the 360 3:1 and the ps3 3.5:1. It would seem that the 360 is stuck in a price point that doesn't seem to relate to the sales it's getting. Also like the RROD stories you also hear numerous, what I would consider foolish stories of people buying their 4 or 5th 360 because they didn't want to send it in. I'm sure numerous people have heard those stories, that probably relates to why 3rd party multiplatform games are almost split 50/50 in sales between the ps3 and 360, even with the numerous 1st party titles that are selling well for the ps3.

Here are some clues to help you pick up when the PS3 is struggling.

The media is talking about 360 games and the lack of PS3 games.

Here's what I've been reading.

PS3 bandwith developer issues
PS3 buying/ incentivizing exclusives
PS3 titles not selling as well as they should
PS3 PSN not close to Xbox Live
PS3 won't sell better if it drops the price
CryEngine 3 will be the engine (NOT GAME) to take down Killzone 2

The theme of these articles are all don't look at the PS3, go for a 360. The thing that's missing from all these articles is what the 360 offers, and that's just a diversion tactic. There's nothing exciting about the 360 other than multiplatform titles and now that the video comparisons hold no wait or end up hurtting the 360 third party titles are better argument, They've got nothing.

Media and propaganda are fun and enjoyable to follow but what's sad is when sorry Frawlz, but when adults who can look up the facts and research start to believe everything they hear without looking at the information that's readily available to them.

The internet can tell you anything you want to hear but you need to research all the facts.

Im really not wanting to download the episode but them talking about the Dev Fee charged to use PSN bandwidth intrigues me since its usually a good discussion topic for PSN. Was the spin good/bad/ugly/thoughtful? Synopsis plox

Pacman said he should kick a chicken. I thought it was hilarious when he said he didn't mean to say chicken but meant to say duck instead, like kicking a duck is more realistic:lol::lol::lol:

Great show guys, good as always, just my 2 cents on the PS3/XBOX failure rate, first off neither are struggling, they are both selling well. Xbox is ahead though, could be ppl buying second and third consoles to replace those that broke. M$ has a pretty good repair process going though so I tend to think those numbers aren't as padded as some think. The point I want to make is you never hear stories about PS3's breaking and as I have been waiting for a good deal on one since launch, I frequent ebay for a used one and it seems 1/3 to almost 1/2 of PS3's on ebay are BROKEN. Many have stopped reading bluray much like the PS2 that stopped reading DVD's but continued to play CD's and PS2 games on CD. Maybe the difference here is Sony hasn't addressed these issues and doesn't have such an expansive warranty so they appear on ebay more often. Truth is XBOX360 is the PS2 of this generation. Most multi plat games are developed on it first and it has the most expansive library. All selling points I made for the PS2 when I worked at a gamestore last gen.

I really doubt that guy is right about this being the "Last console generation". I mean, Like PacmanPB said, publishers will want money. Of course they will support another generation and every generation after that. I just think that this generation will probably have a little longer life cycle than the last ones. Though, I think Nintendo will have to come out with a new console. The Wii is lacking in a lot of features, like HD and...ya know, good games.

I'd just like to point out, as an American, that Kicking Chickens isn't a Canadian thing. Apparently it was a Freudian slip (yes, Freudian slip in this case, bear with me). Kicking Chickens is one of the favorite activities of heroes of Albion, which is where Fable and Fable II take place, which is for a system other than the PS3.

Hence, the Freudian slip - PMPB revealed that he's been playing him some 360. :D
