View Full Version : iPod Games
Ploogle 11-17-2007, 05:27 PM I've been impressed by several of the games for the iPod video. The Sims Pool and Phase are the ones that I own myself, and I love them to death! TSP is a well-done pool game, albeit one with a lame character customizer (only choice is hair color and gender). Phase is pretty much Guitar Hero for the iPod. iTunes turns your songs into music levels, and you click the buttons to catch the notes. It's easy enough to not get frustrated with, but provides plenty of room for everyone to improve...and it's so dang addicting!
Sniper 11-17-2007, 08:44 PM cool, i have an ipod nano 3G (the square one) i like it but i hate itunes. its the most frustrating program ever...
iPlayPC 11-18-2007, 10:59 AM Man, I love Phase. It's gonna wear out my click wheel.
Rhy1993 11-18-2007, 01:00 PM It's all about brick im the best at that game it Pwns
Ploogle 11-18-2007, 05:13 PM I don't see what's so bad about iTunes. Maybe it's just because I'm a technophile. :P
HECK YES. My poor click wheel will get worn out so badly. XD
l33tm45732 11-18-2007, 05:16 PM Ya i got poker and it is okay for an ipod game. Don't know if it was worth 5 bucks thou.
AblativMeatshld 11-18-2007, 08:20 PM cool, i have an ipod nano 3G (the square one) i like it but i hate itunes. its the most frustrating program ever...
It really will become easier the more you use it. I loathed it at first, but it really does grow on you.
keith22 11-18-2007, 10:59 PM Ya i got poker and it is okay for an ipod game. Don't know if it was worth 5 bucks thou.
yeah i have to agree
Emophia 11-19-2007, 03:24 AM It really will become easier the more you use it. I loathed it at first, but it really does grow on you.
True, I quite like it now even though I used to dread plugging my iPod in at first...
Still takes way to long to start up though... I just use VLC for testing out songs...
LEGEND 11-19-2007, 01:36 PM How can you hate iTunes, its miles easeir to use than Winows Media Player.
Does anyone know if Apple are bringing out any games for the iPod Touch?

I bet they will be. Those will be cool.
Inferno Archer 11-19-2007, 03:20 PM What's so bad about itunes? When i used it I never had any difficulty navigating it. I guess it could be because I started using zune and it almost never worked at least until the recent upgrade.
Hollywood 11-19-2007, 06:59 PM haha. I have poker and tetris. I played when ever i got a break during work and I am offcially the MASTER
Ploogle 11-19-2007, 10:35 PM I.
Hate.
That poker game. Seriously. Would anyone care to explain how that game is good?

yea but what about the classics like brick and parachute, there not all pimp and big like "sims" er "pac-man" but you should see the outrageous scores people get on these games, i saw a dude get like 785 points on brick, the most ive ever done is like 478, and the little bar is like3 times smaller than the brick, and you have to save 3 balls at the same TIME!!
Rapahatsutt 11-21-2007, 12:21 PM brick and phase. oh and i love itunes. it is the easiest program in the world to use other than paint.
Deetex Seraphine 11-21-2007, 02:59 PM Nothing wrong with iTunes, any trouble you might have with it is probably just you...
Back on topic, the only game I have is Pacman for my old 60G vid... still as imposible to beat as it was way-back-when.
Plenty of apps on www.appsafari.com for the iTouch or iPhone though.
iPlayPC 11-24-2007, 11:19 AM Cool. Should check those out even though I don't have and iPhone or Touch.
Ploogle 11-26-2007, 07:29 PM I can't wait for them to release the iPod API so the average geek can make his/her own games for the iPod.
Bacontastic 11-26-2007, 08:36 PM Phase is pretty cool. Kind of like Guitar Hero, only without the Guitar...and the Hero, for that matter.
Ploogle 11-26-2007, 08:54 PM Yeah...a better name would be iClick2TheBeat
iPlayPC 11-26-2007, 08:55 PM I can't wait for them to release the iPod API so the average geek can make his/her own games for the iPod.
Are you serious??? Yay!
Mexor13 11-26-2007, 09:50 PM I have all but phase and i love them all!
Ploogle 12-10-2007, 08:12 PM Mexor: Get Phase. Now.
iPlayPC: I didn't post clearly enough. They have no plans to release it at all. B******s.
wazomike 12-11-2007, 12:15 AM Yes phase will definitely be the best 5 dollars you will ever spend
iPlayPC 12-20-2007, 09:37 PM Yes phase will definitely be the best 5 dollars you will ever spend
That and the new Peggle. Played it on PC, and had a hell of a good time. The ipod version is pure addictive bliss. With unicorns.
Ploogle 12-20-2007, 10:37 PM Peggle?
*confused*
Emophia 12-21-2007, 08:32 AM Peeglle for Ipod Nano 3G and iPod Classic...
My 80gig classic arrived today... Will probably get Phase today...
LEGEND 12-21-2007, 08:58 AM You can even get Sonic on the your ipod now! Just wish they would release it for the ipod touch ):
iPlayPC 12-21-2007, 11:45 AM Peggle?
*confused*
Its new.
l33tm45732 12-21-2007, 03:29 PM I got phase and it is okay but a big battery sucker.
Ploogle 12-21-2007, 07:55 PM l33tm35732...screw you. Phase is probably one of the best portable games ever made, although you're right that it is a battery sucker.
I looked up Peggle...and the unicorn picture scared me away. Sonic looks cool, but I've got less than $2 left on my iTunes account. Getting more for Christmas probably.
iPlayPC 12-21-2007, 09:30 PM Aw, come on. Since when have unicorns been scary?
And Phase kicks serious ass, no matter how much battery it takes.
Ploogle 12-21-2007, 09:46 PM Since when have unicorns been scary?
Since this (http://youtube.com/watch?v=Q5im0Ssyyus) and this (http://youtube.com/watch?v=EQJD1ura7G4).
Rekenmachine 12-22-2007, 06:25 AM Since this (http://youtube.com/watch?v=Q5im0Ssyyus) and this (http://youtube.com/watch?v=EQJD1ura7G4).
That was.... disturbing. And it got 17 million views .
As far as iPod games go, I just play the breakout clone that came with it.
Emophia 12-22-2007, 08:17 AM Don't get Sonic, is crap...
Phase however is pure awesomeness, even if it is a battary sucker... I love it...
I haven't tried iPod peggle yet...
l33tm45732 12-22-2007, 08:22 AM OMg I love planet unicorn... A gay boy wished for a planet full of unicorns unicorn planet. Give it up for feathers oooh cadilac and tom Cruuuuise.
Bacontastic 12-23-2007, 02:16 PM I hope you aren't talking about Peggle...Peggle owns all.
genoc1de 12-23-2007, 07:14 PM Well, for my iPhone I have:
-Almost every decent NES game
-Tekken for PSX.
Jailbreaks ftw.
iPlayPC 12-24-2007, 06:20 PM I hope you aren't talking about Peggle...Peggle owns all.
We are. Peggle should be compared to crack and not other games (addicting)
Ploogle 01-02-2008, 11:50 AM I may have to give Peggle a try...but first I need to see some gameplay vids. I'll check out the one they have in the iTunes store.
Has anyone tried the Lost game they have? I've heard REALLY bad things about it...
They've gotta make some sort of RPG for the iPod.

I've been trying to jailbreak my ipod for ages, but without using the interent on it, its really complicated.
iPlayPC 01-02-2008, 04:55 PM I've been trying to jailbreak my ipod for ages, but without using the interent on it, its really complicated.
Isn't it impossible without internet?
LittleTom 01-04-2008, 02:07 AM I just got Phase. It's amusing.
Ploogle 01-08-2008, 02:18 PM "It's amusing."?
That was one of the most generic reviews I've ever read. :p
Emophia 01-08-2008, 03:08 PM It's true, it is quite amusing...
daCooksta 01-08-2008, 03:54 PM phase FTW
but RPGs would be awesome.
As long as you can save your game. What if there was a RPG that was on PC, but you could level up (in example) pets or summons or something on your ipod and sync?
It would be innovative, at least.

The graphics would have to be shit.
Mallico 01-08-2008, 09:12 PM Anyone with a jailbroken Iphone or Ipod Touch should try iPhysics, it`s not naturally in the installer app so you`d have to add the source: http://iphone.r4m0n.net/repos.
iPlayPC 01-09-2008, 07:24 PM cool hafta tell my friend.
Mallico 01-10-2008, 05:51 AM I just played the PC Peggle for the first time, I would kill to get that game on my touch. It's on iTunes for the classic and some other Ipods but not touch. :(
Ploogle 01-12-2008, 05:35 AM I'd kill to keep it off my Touch, once I get one. I've decided to stay away from the Unicorns...
grunt birthday clown 01-12-2008, 07:24 AM yep good games this i pod have (drunk yoda style)
Ploogle 01-13-2008, 04:33 PM Grunt, I have absolutely NO clue what you just said.
(Drunken Yoda Style?)No just absolutely Grunt I, have you clue said what.
Bauer22 01-13-2008, 07:10 PM I just played the PC Peggle for the first time, I would kill to get that game on my touch. It's on iTunes for the classic and some other Ipods but not touch. :(
Yeah I know what you mean. It could be possible to emulate the touch wheel on the touch I guess. I'm hoping that MacWorld 08' will release some iTouch (Yes I know what it's really called) games and the SDK.
Ploogle 01-14-2008, 05:52 PM LOL. Dream on, Bauer. Apple's NEVER gonna release the SDK.
Mallico 01-14-2008, 07:04 PM LOL. Dream on, Bauer. Apple's NEVER gonna release the SDK.
Actually, I'm pretty sure they're releasing it in February.
Ploogle 01-14-2008, 08:00 PM Says who? Every source I've checked says they're giving the dev community a cold shoulder when they ask for the sdk.
Mallico 01-14-2008, 10:06 PM Well there's this (http://apple.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=07/10/17/162238) and if you don't find that convincing just google ipod touch SDK. I'm sure you'll find a thousand articles saying the same thing.
Ploogle 01-15-2008, 03:14 PM iPod TOUCH sdk. I'm talking about the Video.
Edit: *reads back a few posts* Ahhh. You guys were talking about the Touch the whole time. I stand corrected...
Mallico 01-15-2008, 07:53 PM Yeah :P anyway, I just downloaded the Blackjack game from Installer on Ipod Touch. I'd recommend it if you like black jack, the controls are simple (just remember the left swipe from the right swipe lol.)
iPlayPC 01-16-2008, 10:11 PM My friend jailbroke his ipod and he has super mario, fire emblem, and some pokemon game on it...
for FREE.:D
Ploogle 01-18-2008, 07:30 PM Please explain, what do you mean by "jailbreaking"? I can guess, but...
Mallico 01-19-2008, 04:49 AM Please explain, what do you mean by "jailbreaking"? I can guess, but...
Jailbreaking is making your Ipod able to run third party programs (and the Iphone apps.)
iPlayPC 01-23-2008, 11:48 AM Has anyone tried the two new games that have come out?
Ploogle 01-24-2008, 01:17 PM Okay, how do you "jailbreak" your ipod?
*goes to see new games*
Mexor13 01-27-2008, 11:29 PM i got it and love it
rcwpong 01-28-2008, 10:50 AM Here's to hoping they release a version of Phase for the iPhone and touch. I weeped like a wee baby when I saw NO games available for my new toy. Yay for SDK in Feb
Emophia 01-28-2008, 12:48 PM Phase is mehish anyways. Beats is better.
daCooksta 01-28-2008, 03:51 PM Ive got Bomberman and Phase...
I had all of the games (save one or two) for the old iPod video... but for some odd reason the old games dont work on the Classic. (my iPod video was stolen) Theyve reformatted many of the games to work on the classic, but you have to repurchase them.
I feel like i should be able to get the reformatted games for free... since ive bought them previously in the old format.

Ploogle 01-28-2008, 11:28 PM I just got Sonic. I love it!
Emophia 01-29-2008, 07:41 AM Seriously?
All I;ve heard about that are bad things.
firebox 01-29-2008, 12:26 PM I got Peggle and Phase and they are both awesome. Peggle ROCKS!
Ploogle 01-29-2008, 09:37 PM Sonic is a good game, but it does suffer from somewhat poor controls. Once you get good at it, it's a fun game!
ShockwaveLover 01-31-2008, 06:04 AM Just got an 80gb classic, I'm going too check out the games now!

RatTail 04-08-2008, 11:01 PM iPod solitaire is f**king impossible! I couldn't beat it on my 2 gig and it's no different on my 80 gig. I think I've won one game out of like 30. But it is addicting as crap.
wobyer 04-12-2008, 11:30 PM They have a lot!
ya they do.
Instincts 04-12-2008, 11:37 PM I loved playing tetris on my old ipod 5.5 G, i dont care if its not the "real" thing its still so addicting. Also, I hope they bring games to the iphone/ipod touch. Jailbreaking is a good alternative though. Hope the SDK brings stuff.
Ploogle 07-12-2008, 11:43 AM Okay, this needs a revival, for I have encountered the two most amazing iPod games ever: Monopoly and Song Summoner. I'll talk about the classic board game first. First of all, as it's the iPod, it's completely operated via the click wheel. The interface is actually really intuitive, and I was able to play the game with ease after a very brief tutorial. The AI is a lot more advanced than the PS version I'd played before, where the only criteria for trades was whether or not your offer had risen in value a certain amount...you could literally buy Boardwalk for $100 plus the Electric Company. All in all, the game is amazing...but it's an iPod game, which naturally sucks battery life. I don't recommend it for long periods of time when you don't have access to a computer...straight-out listening to music will get you far better mileage.
Song Summoner is an RPG made by Square Enix. As such, it's freaking awesome. You select your songs (only mp3 format songs, though, as the m4a files are encrypted) and create units out of them, which you control in battle. As a bonus, you level up your units by listening to the songs you used to create them outside of the game. The increase in play count will be detected, and these benefits will be given to you each time the game is powered up. The game is based completely on the concept of music, with your "army" being called "Tune Troopers", you're a "Conductor", and every item in the game has some music-related title. (Ultrasound, Rewind, Sonicboom, etc) The battle system is surprisingly powerful for such a limited device. It pulls off a full-featured hex-based (Pretty sure it's hex-based, someone else correct my terminology if I'm wrong) battle system that's amazingly addictive. If anyone is an RPG fan here in ANY way, buy this game. It's worth the $5. :D Only problem is, you won't be able to get more than an hour on a full battery, but such is the nature of the iPod. :(

I picked up song summoner the other day and It is pretty amazing, I was Suprised at how well it worked...For an ipod game it sure packs some punch.
The only concern I have is the length, Ploogle do you know how long the game is? Im don't want to play through it too quickly and just save it for the odd bus ride....
Jarrett 07-13-2008, 03:15 PM I almost bought Sonic the Hedgehog.
I heard the controls sucked!
Doesn't matter, I have no more room from all my Sarcastic Gamer podcasts!
:lol::lol::lol:

Nah, I'm only about an hour or so into it. It looks like it could go on for a bit, but I doubt that they'd have a short story mode for something this intense. I could see this being a 10+ hour game.
LEGEND 07-13-2008, 05:43 PM Meh, i've been playing Pokemon FireRed and FF7 on mine, jailbreaking ftw.
Mallico 07-13-2008, 06:35 PM Song Summoner sounds really cool, I hope they start coming out with cool games like that on the Touch.

Wha--? You don't like the plethora of puzzle games?
Shaha44 07-18-2008, 02:35 PM If you guys have an iPhone or iPod touch definitely check out Aurora Feint. It is addicting as hell. It is a puzzle game with RPG elements to it. And the best part, it is freeeeeeee!!!! The game itself plays like Bejeweled , but the RPG elements is what makes it amazing!
Nightkiller93 07-18-2008, 03:07 PM I play brick and solitaire on my iPod, because my iPod sucks.
Mallico 07-20-2008, 04:43 AM Wha--? You don't like the plethora of puzzle games?
Haha, as much as I enjoy some puzzle games, that's not what I want on my iPod.
I don't really use the emulators on mine, the only games I really ever play on it are iPhysics or T4Two.
Doty Tha Great 07-20-2008, 05:36 AM My friend has Doom and Super Mario Bros. on his IPod
Ploogle 07-20-2008, 02:29 PM My friend has Doom and Super Mario Bros. on his IPod
How do you get Doom on there? I've been wanting to know that for when I get one.
Mallico 07-21-2008, 03:26 AM How do you get Doom on there? I've been wanting to know that for when I get one.
After you've jailbroken it go to installer and tap the sources tab. Tap edit in the top right, then add in the top left and a box will pop up. Type in
rep.ituto.fr and hit Ok. Go to Ituto (Jeux) category in installer and click Doom.
Ok sure that's easy, but the game likes to crash. I can't figure out how to shoot either. swiping your finger left makes him run forward, right makes him run backward. Swiping up makes him look one way, swiping down makes him look the other way. Tap isn't shoot so I don't see what else it could be.
Snockin Great 07-21-2008, 11:40 AM Maybe try out the new Square Enix Ipod Game Song Summoner, it takes your music and creates warriors to fight with. Plus you can level them up via regular playing or by listening to the song you created characters from. It's one of those tactical RPG's, so if you like those you might want to try it.

Last page back, already talked about. SUCH AN AMAZING GAME, though. A little hint: I find that a Silver trooper that's been leveled up from Bronze is almost always more powerful than one of the same type (same unit name) that was just Silver to begin with. Also, you'll start out with more deployment points, and if you do well in the training area while leveling up, you won't lose any. Just sayin'...
Anyone know how to use Pitch Pearls on Zero? I kinda wish I could bring him up from Bronze...
GideonB 07-24-2008, 06:29 AM I think iPod Games are a ripoff. But that Song Summoner game look good. I shall check it out on iTunes UK right now!
Ploogle 07-24-2008, 12:41 PM After you've jailbroken it go to installer and tap the sources tab.
Oops. Never thanked you for responding. Thanks!
Ugh. If it crashes like that, I doubt I'd want it...but you might wanna try thrusting it out to shoot. Probably won't work, but if in doubt (and accelerometers = true) then THRUST!

No problem. I just tried that, no luck.

Okay, I'll just google it.
rcwpong 07-28-2008, 11:34 AM With the new app store I've been impressed by the amount of free games released. That Aurora Feint puzzle game is incredibly well done for a FREE title. **scrolled back and saw Shaha's post. Mark me down for the Aurora Feint fanclub. That and Tap Tap Revolution. Although I have not been able to get the new song downloads to work with TTR yet.
