Okay, so I traded in some stuff over the last couple of weeks and had the credit to buy a PS3 yesterday. The funny thing is the system randomly beeps every few seconds as would a PC when the cmos battery is dying. Has this happened to anyone else? I'm a little weirded out by it and am not sure if it's normal or I should exchange it for another model. Thoughts?

i think his is used because new once don't do that mine i've had it for 1 year so far so good. been no lifing the crap out of it and still as good as a new one.

If its really getting to you just go trade it in.
Also go check the official sony forums they could help.

Just return it and get a new one because it doesn't cost you anything but if it breaks in the next couple of weeks because of the beeping then you'll have to return it anyways

If it does this while turning on and off or reseting, it's fine, but if it does it while running, I'd exchange it

Well judging by Sony's latest firmware update, I wouldn't be surprised if morse code cross-game chat is coming next.

It's normal to hear your PS3 "beep" when it's doing some heavy-lifting as it loads a particularlt intesive game, but i don't think it's normal for it to do that constantly.

You may want to call up the shop where you got it, or bring it by and let them give you their opinion.

Well I brought it back to EB Games over the weekend and the manager was really nice about it exchanged it without checking the other system. New one seems to work fine. I still get occasional beeps but now I'm beginning to think it's not hardware related but network related. I wondering if what I'm hearing is the net pinging my systems. I have things setup via WEP and Mac address filtering outbound to my hardware only. Could be I'm using a bad CAT5 cable? I've not idea. I'm just going to live with it as nothing's broken down.

Well at least now you have ease of mind knowing it's not a hardware problem.

If they're not incessant i wouldn't worry about it.
