I've been going to a music centre since Tuesday on a 3 day rock band course. On the last day (today) we had to put on a show for the parents. We'd been practising hard for 3 days but in the end it was great! My band (we were called Axel, I didnt make the name) played Enter Sandman by Metallica and American Idiot by Green Day.
On the first day when we were sorting out bands and stuf I didnt know anyone there so I just waited to be put into a group. At the end there were 7 guitarists left (I was 1 of them). I was put into a group with only 4 guitarists. We chose out songs and then 1 of our guitarists volunteered to play bass. The next day he decided "F*ck it" and said he was ill so he didnt come in. Towards the end of the day we got to use the bass player, drummer and singer from another band (called Twist Of Fate). American Idiot wass 99% perfect and Enter Sandman was about 80% there.
So today we practised Enter Sandman without the other band and we were still only 90% there. When we played with the bassist and drummer it all fell into place, 100% there! American Idiot was also 100% and we did a sound check at 3PM (GMT).
The concert was scheduled for 4. So we had an hour to kill. We had to move our equipment out of the rooms as it was the last day. When that was done I sat down and played my PSP for 15 minutes and then went to get our guitars tuned.
When the concert started we were the 3rd band on stage. When we were called up to wait outside the concert room I felt like I needed a p*ss. I didnt say anything and then when the band before us started the next song it went away. Just as they finished it came back again. I just ignored it. We went onto stage and plugged in and set the amps to the right settngs. The drummer clicked us in and Joe (the guy who came up with the band name) stated to play the intro to Enter Sandman.
Once we had finished 'Sandman we got applause and then went on to play American Idiot. Laura (THE girl in our band) played the first riff once on her own (rather shabbily, I might add) but then me and Joe came in with the bass and drums.
I knew that my mum and nan were there but I couldnt see them, whch helped my nerves. I kept my head down, focused on the fret board and anywhere but the direct audience. We played both songs amazingly. It wasnt as scary as I thought. Once I was up on stage my nervousness flew out the window.
It wasn't at all scary while I was up playing. It was really fun and I wanted to. Do it again but we had to get off stage. I recommend that anyone who has the opportunity to play in a rock band to do so. It's a great experience that ai wont forget.
And thats the story of my first concert!
