It just popped up on my computer and keeps giving me popups saying my computer is unprotected and has a virus. It stops my flow of typing so I have to reject the request before I can continue. It's gotten me stuck 3 times already. I suspect it's spyware and I wondered if anyone new any good spyware removal programs.

I was looking at Spyware Doctor, but I'm just not sure right now.

Spybot (http://download.cnet.com/Spybot-Search-amp-Destroy/3000-8022_4-10122137.html?tag=mncol) works wonders for me too. Its great stuff. Malwarebytes (http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html?tag=mncol) is also pretty good. I get all of my stuff from http://download.cnet.com/windows/
They have alot of free spyware removes there. just be sure to read the reveiws first. Get them Here (http://download.cnet.com/windows/spyware-removers/?tag=ltcol;nav)

AVG AntiVirus is well recommended as well as SpyBot Search and Destroy.

SuperAntiSpyware is free, unless you want to pay for it to run automated scans.

Question... What is spyware? does anyone REALLY know?

Granted, I have one of those computers that doesn't get spyware (I won't mention it's name so I dont start a flame war) but what does spyware do to your machine?

spyware is a type of virus that will hide in your machine, and try to get stuff like credit details and bank numbers.

in his case, by popping up a fake windows box, its hoping you will input your bank details to buy the software it is advertising. most likeley the "software" will be another virus.

Back on my old machine, I could play a game for an hour and when I returned to the desktop the screen would be completely filled with Spyware adverts, normally between 20-30 pop-ups.

God-damn-diculous.

Wait, and you just saw this yesterday? I think you may have something worse then just Spyware Protect 2009. Look at this "eye" chart and tell me which one's you can see. (http://rudd-o.com/en/linux-and-free-software/conficker-eye-chart-reloaded)

Either way, an at boot scan with avast and malewarebytes anti-malware will get rid of anything you have.

I also suggest avira over other free AV's, its much better in my opinion.
You may need to end the processes of the malware apps before you can successfully remove with malewarebytes, but it will work.

(Just for the record, "PC's that can' get spyware" ftw)

I can see all six of the pictures.

The top row (l to r) is F-Secure logo, Secure works logo, and Trend Micro logo.
Bottom row (l to r) is Blowfish, Tux the Linux penguin, and a cartoony devil.

Good! You don't have Conficker!

I'm assuming that Conficker is a really nasty spyware program of some kind.
I think it's logical to assume that in a thread like this, right?

Yes. It's a nasty worm. Why I thought you may have had that was because of this. http://www.viruslist.com/en/weblog?weblogid=208187654

Oh...that was that April Fools bug, right? The one released on the 1st? I guess I had it, but my new (free and REAL) antispyware program took care of it. Had you posted the "eye" chart on the day of, I'm sure some of those pics would be missing.

Avast is a good A/V, but it doesn't include malware removal. If you run into "Windows Antivirus 2009"(or Windows Antivirus 360), than malwarebytes is hands down the best to get rid of those. Which by the sounds of it, Spyware Protect 2009 might be from the same family as the other two? Give malwarebytes a spin. Then go buy you a mac(security in obscurity  or was it protected because it's neglected? I can't remember)

No, if you can see the images you have Conficker. The more images you see the worse you have it.

My advice: Kill you computer with fire to stop it strangling you in your sleep.

Lavasoft has some good stuff with their Adaware. I also will agree with Spybot Search and Destroy. They both do the trick for me, and my computer has been pretty much virus free (at least no real problems) for quite some time.
