A couple of weeks ago, had you told me we were recording our last episode of the Red Show, I would not have believed you. For well over a hundred shows Lono, Dave and I pulled it together and cranked out humpday Updates, Podcasts, game specials and so much more.
Lono was a part of that show from nearly the beginning, and to continue that show without him on it would have been an empty experience for everyone. We never went on the air without each other, and even when it was a scheduling nightmare. We will not continue “The Red Show” without Lono. It just wouldn’t ever work. There’s too much history there.
Instead, we’re closing that chapter, and opening a new one.
Standby for a new type of show, coming tonight, which we hope you’ll receive with an open mind.
Thank you for listening to all of those shows and welcoming us into your head a couple times a week for the last year and a half. We hope you’ll hang around long enough to give this new show a chance. Lono has started a new project, which is currently hosted over at the HCCG site that we hope you’ll check out as well. They should let the SGC pick a name at least.

Okay, so there's one question that remains in my head Doc (well there are actually many, but i doubt you will answer my other questions) what happened to episode 81? From looking around twitter and your posts, you were going to be interviewing some bloke from ScrewAttack about Jack Thompson. You and Lono had very different opinions about ScrewAttack, and seemed to have a mini argument in the comments section of an SG post. (http://sarcasticgamer.com/wp/index.php/2009/04/screwattack-promotes-jack-thompson-to-sell-convention-tickets.html#more-23575)

Dave said on his twitter that episode 81 was going to be awesome, so you must have at least made parts of that podcast. What happened during your interview with the ScrewAttack guy? Why did you never release it?

Unless Lono decided to leave before the interview, but i doubt that because I remember him posting that he was reading up on JT to use against the Screw Attack guy, I doubt he would go to so much effort to then leave before the interview.

My theory is that because of Lono's passionate feelings towards JT and ScrewAttack he and you got into an argument over it during the Screw Attack interview, and must have fallen out. That was the final straw for Lono who had become increasingly frustrated with the Red Show and decided to leave.

I'm sure there must have been some kind of 'incident' to trigger Lono's sudden departure, an argument or falling out. Otherwise I think he would have told you and Dave about his decision beforehand so you could announce it on the red show together and have a proper goodbye, like you did with previous podcast hosts. He also mentioned that he would never be coming back to the podcasts, which seems quite extreme.

Sorry if I'm looking to deeply at this but I'm getting annoyed with Lono's cryptic messages on Twitter and around the forums.

I just hoped you could have done 100 episodes of the Red show.

Well, I was really confused about everything that has been happening. Lono leaving, and the new show, I really was confused. This thread helped straighten some things out. You are correct in thinking that the Red Show wouldn't be the same without Lono, and it isn't. I'm interested to see where this is all going. It all feels fresh, and I like it.

Add me to the list. I discovered the Red show around episode 8 or so, and every week it is one of the two podcasts I listen to first and completely.
I know things change and evolve, I'd rather that evolution occur than everyone get burned out and start "phoning it in" or resent doing the show. I'll tune in.

I will really miss the SG Red show, it helped me through some difficult times during my tour in Iraq. After some very difficult missions listening to the DOC, DAVE and LONOs humor made things a little better, as we all know laughter can be the best cure. Will there ever be a best of show with clips form the old episodes?

PayneTrain
04-15-2009, 08:58 PM
That would make a sick SGR Episode 20. You'd would've hit 100 episodes with Red by then, and just maybe they'd make some calls, bring in an old host, maybe a special guest, and throw in 15 seconds of SG Red Fame, and we can send in thank yous/shout outs for the show. That would make an awesome show. I'd listen. I'd say make it one hour, but that would be a bitch to edit.

Just a comment (in general) about "best of" or "clip" shows... people always seem to think those are easy or can be done for the weeks when a show won't air but in reality, they're MUCH more time intensive than doing a new show because you have to scan back through tons of episodes... I mean if the things were text, you could do a search for content, but with audio... even if you had an indexed topics list, you have to listen to the stuff... even cutting/pasting requires a lot of time to make sure you have just the right audio selected, etc... plus, do you bother with native audio or use the audio from finished shows, all with varying background music, etc...

If I were Dave, I'd never want to do a best-of show... ever.

Ask the community to submit the stuff. Say "Episode 37, 6:56 minutes"

To be honest (flame all you want) I sorta expected it, not just with the departure of Lono, sure he added an extra personality to the mix to provide it with a broader experience over all. I would say that change of the type of show turned people off. In theory, a variety show works as it supposedly has a bit of everything, but there is such a thing as a conceptually good idea but flawed practical idea despite.

Truthfully, I stopped listening to all the shows (the red show at about 87 and the blue show I never really got in to, same as the pink show). Don't take this the wrong way, I'm only here for the community and to see what ideas are being bounced around the SGF's. If the show follows a format that most if not all game podcasts are doing, then it'll certainly do well as it's a format that, even though everyone is doing it, it works.

Although I mainly listen to Rebel FM (good insights, discussion points and a lot of humour both perverted and clean) and GiantBomb (much the same reasons as Rebel FM) I'm really only going to one forum in particular and thats this one. Keep up the good work on the forum side of things.

Well, it simply sounds like SG podcasts are aimed at a different target audience than you... we're always going to remain "clean" (except when Dave slips...) and we aren't aimed at being a resource of information as much as a source for what you can't readily get elsewhere... funny takes on games and gaming events/news. Serious gaming sites already exist and we don't have the time or resources to compete with corporate blogging sites... but we can poke fun and crack jokes with the best of 'em.

I'm glad you like our forum though!

Not for people who aren't community members however. The Blu show gets hardcore (and mainly PS3) gamers, the pink show gets female/ casual gamers, they both get them into the forums, which then gets them to like SGR
