View Full Version : I need some gaming advice!

So I have a dilemma! I'm looking for a new competitive FPS game to start playing. I'm looking for a multiplayer game that is fun and still going big. A game that has tournaments going and doesn't seem to be dieing. Something that is fun but requires skill and not just spray and pray. I currently play Counter-strike: Source and I am getting very bored and annoyed with it. I've played it for a few years and that's pretty much it for my PC gaming. I'm thinking about buying COD4 but I'm not sure if it's still going strong or if it's dieing out. I was also curious if COD:World at War was very big, competitively, online. So please if you could give me some advice on which game I should head towards. Any advice would be nice! I plan on getting it this friday(payday!). Oh and by the way, my rig can run anything on the highest settings so hardware shouldn't become a factor.

Thanks a lot guys!

PS. By the way, I am extremely new to the SG community. I just started to listen to all of the SG podcasts a few days ago. I love them all! Keep up the good job!

TF2 is probably what you're looking for.

It's a fun time.

Unreal Tournament 2K4 or 3

I'd go with COD4. It's definitely still up there with people playing it, and won't be replaced for another 7 months until MW2 releases.

If not that, then get TF2.

TF2 wont be a bad choice.

Unreal Tournament 2K4 is sorta still going. Battlefield 2 is hella fun, but can still be serious and competitive if ya like.

Team fortress 2 is gonna have some legs(its also an awsome game), where as cod4 is going to die as soon as modern warefare 2 comes out

TF2 cause it is a very fun game with tons of people and it will not die for a long time.

COD4 and TF2 are the main online games.

Left 4 Dead is a good alternative to those though.

Yeah I have L4D but I don't really like the versus :(. TF2 doesn't seem to be the kind of game I'm looking for. I'm looking for a more realistic game I think but I'm not sure. I'm really thinking of picking up COD4 friday. That way I'll be good at it by the time Modern Warefare 2 comes out :D. Actually I'm gonna do it now!!! So tell me. Should I get the box or should I just get it through steam?

you could try counter-strike.
They still got tournaments and patches but it is an old game.
But that means you could probably get it cheap.

I would definitely pick up COD4. I've gone from rank 1 to 55 once already in multiplayer, and I'm halfway there again and it's still fun. HUGE number of people still online.

Even if you don't think TF2 is your style, I say you should pick it up and give it a try. It's amazing.

Well, you've already got your game, but TF2 is most definitely still worth picking up. It's twenty bucks, dude, so if you don't like it, it's not like you sank 60 into it. Unreal is alot of fun as well, i have 2k4 and UT3, and enjoy both.

TF2 is absolutely one you'll want. It's so much go@@amn fun, it's crazy. It has a much more casual feel than, say, CS:S or Left 4 Dead, but has a surprising amount of depth and strategy should you choose to explore the game further.
