Hey, guys, I know it's been a while since I've been on. I've been really busy, but now I need some help. So, when I got on my computer earlier this afternoon, it worked fine. In fact, I was able to finish my research paper without any problems. Well, then I go to work, come home, and now it has pretty much gone to hell. For some reason, it is randomly performing actions like opening 63 calculators, opening up or closing the internet, and randomly typing in numbers and letters into the search box. I have no clue what is going on, but I know it is bad. Very, very bad. So, can someone please give me some advice on what it is and how I can fix it. I just hope that I don't have to wipe the harddrive. I really hate doing that.

does your keyboard have a calculator and internet button? If so then try plugging in a different keyboard and see if it goes away. The random typing is what makes me think it's a keyboard issue.

Have you tried running a spyware/virus scanner?

Does it still do it after you reboot?

Like silk1000 said, it's definitely a keyboard / keyboard driver problem.

3 step™

1) Uninstall the keyboard driver from device manager, then unplug and plug in back the keyboard. Windows should detect it as a new device and install the appropriate drivers automatically. If the random typing is still there...

THEN

2) Borrow a mate's keyboard and see what happens. If it works fine, the problem is in your keyboard. Ditch yours and get a new one. If the problem remains...

THEN

3)Virus/Malware/Spyware Checks FTW!

Throw another vote in towards the possible keyboard issue... that is what it sounds like to me too...

yep keyboard issues although it could also be the port you use to plug in your keyboard but that seems much less likely

Hah what a fun way for your computer to screw with you.

But yeah as others have said, a simple hardware change and spyware scan should solve this mystery.

Gremlins. That's your problem. Nasty little fellows. Keep a bat and a roll of duct tape nearby to hopefully prevent the problem next time.

You know the bright side to this, right? Malware that REALLY could hurt you is the kind that hides it being there. If this is malware caused, it's not likely to be be sending your private info anywhere else.

Best of luck solving it, though.
