View Full Version : Just a thought...
Joshthegreat 11-26-2007, 03:26 PM I listen to the podcasts every week, and abso-freakin-lutely love them. Utterly hilarious banter that warrants every minute that I spend grinning away on the bus instead of talking to pepole. Only I've noticed a trend; a recurring problem; a complete lack of acknowledgement of the PS3. Don't hate on me or stop reading right now because you may have labelled me as a fanboy, because I'm just taking an interest. For example in one of the latest podcasts one of the crew started to talk about all the great games we've had this season. This list made an epic effort to complete discard any of Sony's offerings. Ratchet and Clank? Uncharted? And although I've run myself into a rather dissapointing trap here, by the mere two afformentioned games. But really, Sarcasticgamer, they're amazing titles and totally worthy of your attention.
I appreciate ther may only be like one of you who has a PS3 because it's price, and not quite as many great exclusives coming up as the 360, but surely it's worthy of at least some air time? Doc's recent 'revelation' that the PS3 could be the ugly duckling of the console lineup was interesting, but I think the time is coming, and sales figures show, when the PS3 will shine. I guess I don't really have a whole great deal to say.
My argument or concern really doesn't carry as much weight as I thought it did, because in truth I can totally see why the PlayStation 3 isn't getting so mcuh discussion, unless it's on the sour end of a bagging. But chamone guys, it's a rad system and really has a lot of great original content on offer. I challenge you to play Uncharted. Any human being would fall in love instantly.
Bring on the hate. Afterall, this was a rather pointless, and I'm a forum noob. Love the site.
viatrophy 11-26-2007, 03:45 PM Although I agree with what your saying. You did only mention two games, and SOMEHOW you missed mentioning warhawk. That game is so much fun,
I honestly don't see Uncharted being as good as everyone says it is, It just looks like a pretty shooting game to me, But then again. I'm yet to play it.
Chexd 11-26-2007, 03:47 PM Well perhaps Rothbart should be bought on to the podcast team if he is up for it :D
viatrophy 11-26-2007, 03:51 PM He could read us the Rothbart rants!
Damn that be great.
Joshthegreat 11-26-2007, 03:58 PM I was going to mention Warhawk, given how amazing it is, but that did come out a good while ago. And the games mentioned in the talked about episode were either just-released or highly anticipated.
viatrophy 11-26-2007, 04:02 PM Ahh okay.
I resent my statement of Warhawk then. :)
iFester 11-26-2007, 04:12 PM The three main games that have me interested in the PS3 atm are Folklore, Rachet and Clank and Uncharted.
Dexyn 11-26-2007, 04:18 PM Uncharted is down-right awesome. It's short but it also brings one hell-of-a-punch. As for it not having Blood in Japan... well, can't win em all. As for everything else you said, I do agree.
Chexd 11-26-2007, 06:13 PM He could read us the Rothbart rants!
Damn that be great.
in a sort of "bed time story" manner :p
viatrophy 11-26-2007, 06:57 PM in a sort of "bed time story" manner :p
God damn it.
That'd be great.
LordLegion 11-27-2007, 08:52 PM I agree that they really don't mention it. I know that it will be mentioned when it comes close to MGS 4 being released. But I haven't seen much else, I mean I love the fact that if the PS3 really does pull through that the games for it will be amazing. I mean it has the potential to have some of the greatest looking and most innovative game titles ever but I don't know if it will ever get to use that power.
edit: ohh yea for got to mention God of War 3 but I have no idea when that will be coming out.
Joshthegreat 11-28-2007, 01:13 PM Oh we'll see the potential. I mean Killzone 2 in the alpha stages of development is already looking as good as call of Duty 4, which is arguably the best looking console title yet. And the PlayStation Eye can take cartoon drawings and render them into 3D characters using the PS3. The potential is overwhelming. it's a shame that multi-platform PS3 titles at the moment are being held back by the fact they have to be ported from the 360 versions because of the difference in hardware architecture.
I think when the likes of Little Big Planet hit the shelves more than just Doc will realise it's a kickass system.
PopTrogdor 11-29-2007, 01:13 PM not quite as many great exclusives coming up as the 360
are you on crack? whats the next few exclusives for the xbox 360 that anyone actually gives a crap about? hmmm, errrr... hmmm cant think of many at the moment, and then list the ones exclusive to PS3 and you would have to use at least both hands and a foot to count them! Learn 2 get Your Facts Straight!
Joshthegreat 11-30-2007, 04:09 PM No need to have a paddy there, Pop. I'm aware there are a great number of exclusives coming to the PS3, but you're making a dumbass assumption that they're all going to be great. I mean to say, Lair looked fantastic, and even played brilliantly in its beta stages in 2006 (from my experience, anyhow). The end result, however, wasn't all it was cracked up to be. I'll even go out on a limb and say Heavenly Sword wasn't as good as I was expecting, even though I enjoyed the living crap out of Nariko's bottom. Point is, sure Sony's exclusive line-up looks promising, but I'll nibble off my third leg if they all turn out to be AAA adventures.
Ehum. I've wondered somewhat, I know. I take back what I said about the MS exclusives being more promising than the Sony ones. But seeing as you're stating opinions as fact, I'll go ahead and say Folklore is a pile of horse crap. :)
Networker 11-30-2007, 04:43 PM I agree with what you are saying Josh,
the ps3 is way underrated here at SG, but i guess that it is because only one staff member owns it, one staff member has seen what it can be and about 90% if not more users are 360 owners who canīt afford/donīt like the ps3.
Joshthegreat 11-30-2007, 05:06 PM Which staff member owns one? I suppose when Sony starts flashing the big guns the sales will rank up, but with the PS3 being as cheap as it is now, HDTVs rapidly becoming a national standard, and the exclusive games looking as sweet as they do, it's a wonder why only one staff member owns one.
Networker 11-30-2007, 05:15 PM the SG staff member who has a ps3 is Rothbart :p
and from what i have heard from the podcast or read from the site itīs that they think the price is still too high and they arenīt interesting in the current exclusives except for maybe Uncharted and Warhawk.
Joshthegreat 11-30-2007, 05:28 PM Too expensive for a console that's now only marginally more expensive than the 360, and has twice the value? Mind-boggling. Why aren't any of the SG staff members explaining themselves here? I want official answers damn it!
l33tm45732 11-30-2007, 10:01 PM Ya the only game that draws my attention is Ratchet and Clank.
PopTrogdor 12-01-2007, 10:07 AM lol the xbox now is technically more expensive, as if you want all the stuff that already comes in the PS3 it can cost up to another Ģ150 plus! which puts it at around Ģ120 more expensive that the ps3, and anyways, Blu-ray now owns 78% of the hd market in europe...which is nice.
Folklore wasnt total crap, i enjoyed it for a few weeks, and I actually more gamer time than two of my mates have played Mario Galaxy, which is game of the year? How about games that actually last longer than 4 days to get all 120 stars?

How exactly have your worked that out?
Plus the only reason most people don't own a ps3 yet is due to the fact there bugger all to play on it yet, Well anything worth playing.
Probably by the end of next year there will be a lot more people owning them due to it'll have a few decent games.
and I honestly couldn't care what the bigger percentage is, I don't see why most people care, If you enjoy it, You buy it,
But I don't see this apparent marketshare anywhere where I go,
All shops here (Rugby) cities near me (Birmingham) (Coventry) (Northampton)
All gaming shops there are dvd sellers like HMV still have shelves full of ps3's and stacks of blu-ray movies not selling. every time I go in there to pick up a film its usually out of stock on HD DVD.
Joshthegreat 12-01-2007, 11:07 AM Take a look at the adverts next time you turn on your TV. If HD-DVDs were selling, they'd advertise it more. Instead for every film advertisement you see you'll see 'Available on DVD and Blu-ray Disc'.
If you wanted a 360 with the same functionality as the PS3 you'd have to spend a lot more money. Fact. You'd need to shell out for a WiFi adapter, Memory card reader and a HD-DVD drive.
I just got CoD4 for 360 a nibble me twelve times that's a good game!
viatrophy 12-01-2007, 11:10 AM Except I usually see HD DVD and DVD?
or its both.
You don't need all the crap though.
You only buy what you want, it makes more sense.
Emophia 12-01-2007, 11:56 AM How exactly have your worked that out?

A) It would have been more expensive for me... And I wouldn't have even bothered with teh HD Drive...
B) It already has more than a 'few' games worth playing... But it still needs more... And here in Hounslow, it's quite different when it comes to Bruray and HDVD...
iPlayPC 12-01-2007, 11:59 AM I'm just saying 1 thing...
Josh, your avatar scares me.
Networker 12-01-2007, 01:29 PM Here in Iceland the popular electronics shop and the most inexpensive has stopped selling HD-DVD because they where selling like 5-10 HD-DVD disks in a week while the blu-ray was selling by the hundreds. And judging from what i have seen the rest of Europe is also Blu:cool:.
Joshthegreat 12-01-2007, 01:38 PM If I see HD-DVD advertised, it's for huge movies like Harry Potter, where the Blu-ray version sells more. There's a possibility the two formats could co-exist, but at the rate Blu-ray is selling, that's not likely to happen. But hey, even if Blu-ray does turn out to be an epic fail, developers are utlising it for PS3 games brilliantly.

That has got to be the most illogical statement ever... Cause everyone knows that if the product is in stores, it must not be selling....
viatrophy 12-01-2007, 02:48 PM Before you start trying to be a bloody smart-arse.
If a item is on a shop floor in stock, and the products on that shelf haven't shifted for around a week.
IT MEANS IT ISN'T SELLING.
And plus there hardily utilizing the disk space yet. nothing special has came from it yet.
The only decent games the ps3 has right now which work fine are Rachet and Clank and warhawk in my opinion.
Kiljoy 12-01-2007, 03:02 PM Where I live demand is high for blu ray, nobody really cares about HD DVD

Resistence was 22GB... Guerilla have said a number of times that Blu-ray isn't a luxury, it's a necessity. Alone their E3 demo of Killzone 2 took up a whopping 2GB of space. The E3 demo of Uncharted also took up 8GB. (Note that the Uncharted demo on the PS store is a lot shorter than the E3 one). The development team behind The Darkness (albeit a crap game, in my opinion) used Blu-ray to put fully featured TV channels into the game, which you could watch on the TVs spread throughout the game's world. I'll grant that this isn't exactly a winning feature, but you can't say developers aren't using the additional space.
viatrophy 12-01-2007, 03:28 PM Right.
As I did say, Either you miss-read it or are being ignorant (not accusing here mate)
I honestly thought Resistance was crap, and trust me, I'm tolerant with games.
Yer Uncharted looks pretty, But it just looks like another shooter.
Killzone, The first one was crap. so why would the second one be better?
Extra disk space isn't a necessity.
Oxygen is a necessity to humans, Having extra space on a disk isn't.
Although I know games aren't published on the hd format, I'll bring this up anyway.
New HD DVD disk's are bigger then blu-ray.
Kiljoy 12-01-2007, 03:38 PM So you have shitty taste, that just means you are either in denial or you are very selective. Oh and also the new one is a triple layer hd dvd, and it only has one gb more room then the dual layer blu ray.
viatrophy 12-01-2007, 03:39 PM Selective.
Nothing to be in denial about considering I own a ps3.
And played one enough times around friend's.
Kiljoy 12-01-2007, 03:43 PM well then gaming is not for you, especially when you think uncharted is just another shooter.
viatrophy 12-01-2007, 03:46 PM From video's I've seen of the game.
It just looks like a pretty shooter.
If you honestly can tell me what makes it different I will completely take the statement back.
Kiljoy 12-01-2007, 03:49 PM It's almost like playing a movie, the story is amazing, the voice acting is some of the best you can find, and most importantly half the game is platforming and puzzles (albeit simple ones).
viatrophy 12-01-2007, 03:53 PM I'll stick to my word.
As from whaat I've seen in videos etc. it did just look like another shooter.
I resent my statement.
Emophia 12-01-2007, 03:57 PM It's nothing like another shooter...
Uncharted, Mario Galaxy and Call of Duty 4 are the only games this generation to go beyod my expectations and blow me away...
Networker 12-01-2007, 03:57 PM Saying that Uncharted is just another shooter, is like saying Mona Lisa is just another painting
Joshthegreat 12-01-2007, 04:26 PM I'll stick to my word.
As from whaat I've seen in videos etc. it did just look like another shooter.

Dude play the demo. Uncharted is 'just another shooter' in the sense that it borrows a lot of elements from other games. But it's the only game that combines elements of Tomb Raider, Gears of War and Indiana Jones. The demo will show you just how impressive Uncharted is. If you own a PS3, why on earth haven't you downloaded it yet?
Emophia 12-01-2007, 04:35 PM The demo doesn't really do justice to teh game...
Joshthegreat 12-01-2007, 07:00 PM Really? Because I thought it was freakin' quality! Alas, I'll have to wait until the 7th if I want to play it here in the UK.
darkwonders 12-02-2007, 02:20 AM Right.
As I did say, Either you miss-read it or are being ignorant (not accusing here mate)

What size are these new HD DVD disks?
And I know I was sounding like a smart arse, but you had it coming. It really irks me when people bring up that "It's on store shelves so it must not be selling."
Just a quick question, how do you know it's the same Blu-rays?
Dexyn 12-02-2007, 04:21 AM If you buy Uncharted, not only will you be happy, but you'll be...Happy? No other way to put it. It's just an amazing game and if you play it on Hard mode, you'll be really happy. Just make sure you get head shots. Lots of head shots.
gliff159 12-02-2007, 04:46 PM i played the demo i didnt think it was all that special. i have R&C its fun but there are better games on the 360 i rent BR movies form blockbuster form time to time but im hoping to get that HD-DVD drive soon so i can watch heroes in HD movie formats dont really interest me the load times for games due to slow transfer rate
rothbart 12-03-2007, 03:59 PM i played the demo i didnt think it was all that special. i have R&C its fun but there are better games on the 360
A couple comments... the Uncharted demo is a taste of the full game, not an all-encompassing representation. If you own a PS3, you owe it to youself to play through the game.
Also, you R&CF comment got me... you say there are better games on the 360... well, for someone that, you know, actually was looking for a platformer, what might those games be?!?!

well it may be a taste but for me it was a bad taste. ok and for someone who is only looking for platforming games yah R&CF is awesome. im not saying that there bad games just i think imo there are games that are more fun
JasonSoft 12-04-2007, 08:53 PM Looking at whats selling by looking a shop shelfs? Have you any idea how stupid you sound???
This is 21st century - Check the internet for exact sales figures???
PS. I own a 360 and Blu-ray/HD-DVD player. I have the most rational combination of hardwear.
PopTrogdor 12-09-2007, 11:04 AM Right.

wow has someone been listening to the PS3 song recently? Killzone 1 really didnt suck seriously, it was just an unfinished game, like most games nowadays. And you really cant judge one game because of another one, tis foolishness. Do you even own a PS3? :S
Also uncharted is a shooter yeh, but play it first, seriously, gears of war and halo are just shooters too, but people still like wanking off over them, uncharted is amazing! Its inovative and beautiful, his animations show his running style as imperfect like a real person, he even stumbles when the elevation of the ground changes, play before judging it please.
Networker 12-09-2007, 12:17 PM extra disk space is a necessity, already there are games that take up 22-25 gbīs and can you imagine the games of 2008-2010? the 360 can NOT compete if their games will only be a shell of what the ps3 versions will be because of the extra disk space.
