View Full Version : Any poker players?
Awoll SGF 06-05-2009, 01:08 AM This is the lobby so I'm going to see if I have some players in here.
I just got back from a 14 hour session at the Borgata (I live in Atlantic City).
I just made $27,000 in a tourney. A life changing amount for me.
I've been here for a little while so I figured I'd share with you all my good fortune ( I can't float a loan though, sorry).
WOOOO WHOOOO!

Officer Mudkip 06-05-2009, 07:50 AM What was the buy in?
LEGEND 06-05-2009, 07:57 AM Brilliant, well done. That best I ever did was come third in tournament between a few friends, the buy in was £5. I got cheated out of the game. :D
BlueCollarGamer 06-05-2009, 08:00 AM Congrats. :w00t: Any plans or are you just freeing yourself from a few debts?
Shanghai Six 06-05-2009, 11:19 AM Very nice work! I can't even imagine? I'm presuming that was final table action, what place? What hand did you win with/get knocked out with?
I'm a rounder/grinder, playing NL 50 or 100 while I video game; nothing too stressful. Play game, hear warning noise at table, pause game, fold hand, play game, lather, rinse, repeat. Before the internet gambling act, I was clearing about $15K a year. Now I'm at about half of that, but it's still nice being able to make money playing video games.
I can beat NL 50; NL 100 is a stretch, and higher than that and we're pushing car payments and utilities across the table back and forth, and my brain can't handle it.
Tournaments drive me absolutely bonkers. I actually just did a freeroll last week, spent two hours to make it to the final table, got knocked out in 10th place, and won $11 for my effort (and yeah, I understand the freeroll concept).
Congrats again!
gash666 06-05-2009, 11:24 AM dude thats amazing, i used to play but i have a terible poker face so i lost a lot lol.
Silence 06-05-2009, 06:50 PM I won $5 in Blackjack once.
:/
Paradigm13 06-05-2009, 11:11 PM Way to go dude, that would be a life changing win, I'm sure there's an awesome story to go along with it.
I used to play more than I do now, but if my buddies are playing I'll jump in. I don't actively seek out games or have a regular one, though.
Awoll SGF 06-06-2009, 12:03 AM They run a $300 + 40 guaranteed every friday, but because the Borgata open starts sunday, they ran one thursday also. I cashed for 21k, then took 1k to 10/20 NL and ran it up to 6k.
Unfortunatly, I have to claim it on my taxes. but I'll only have to claim 16k. the rest I left with cash.
The best part is, I took 200 to 1/2 NL and ran it up to 800. I was GOING to leave then decided to enter with a friend. I won the last longer between me and him (ANOTHER 100 bucks ;) ) and took down the tourney.
Once it pay the taxes, im going to pay off my car, my college, and probably take 3k back to the borgata this weekend. they've given me rooms for the next 5 weekends except fourth of july.
It's pretty frickin' sweet that I can do all of that and STILL have something left over. maybe get myself the guitar I've been wanting ;)

Paradigm13 06-07-2009, 09:29 PM Man, you're right. That's an awesome story and that'll stay with you for rest of your life! Congrats, dude!
Shanghai Six 06-07-2009, 11:20 PM Awoll, still waiting to hear which place you got (you finish first with that kind of payout, I imagine), what hand you had and what you ended up beating?
Doc, you play? Online or brick and mortar (i.e. casinos)?
Ventilaator 06-08-2009, 12:07 AM I´ll play some virtual poker for virtual money any day. I try to avoid playing for real money because that can go so horribly and terribly wrong.
Awoll SGF 06-08-2009, 03:20 AM The hand that ended up winning it was k9 suited. The hand that crippled my opponent once we went heads up was 10,9 os.
Blinds at 3/6k. i made it 18k and he called. flop was 10, 8, 7 rainbow! (The most beautiful thing i'd ever seen!) i checked, he bet 30k, i raised him to 100 and he called. turn was a blank. river was a king.
i bet 140k, raised to 280 and i shoved. he had me by about 300k so i called and he A8.
after that it was just a matter of time. I took down first and got paid 21,000. there were more entries than they expected so the 50k guarentee was higher. i forget the total.
A lot of the tourney was uneventful for me. i chipped away at big stacks, i sat like a rock for most of it. I made a monster bluff against a Borgata regular who deals at Harrah's. other than that, it was pretty ABC poker until i got heads up.
Once i was heads up, it wasn't going to be pretty for the other player. I play live way too much for these guys to handle me.
I live in Atlantic City, so I can easily say I play more poker than most :)
Awoll SGF 06-08-2009, 03:22 AM I think the K9 beat 7's in the end, but i was a 5 or 6:1 chip stack that it didn't matter.
Shanghai Six 06-08-2009, 07:19 AM Nice work. The open ended straight draw on the flop was a nice touch!
Ugh, I hate heads up. I hate having to play with trash. When I'm gaming, I play premium hands against full tables. Yeah, most people see me coming from a country mile away, but I also am a winning player too. If I paid more attention, I could probably make more moves, tell when X player is bluffing or take stabs at checked pots, but again, the big hands PF just continue to make me money over time, so meh!
Grats again. Never actually sat through a live B&M tourney; that's got to take some stamina!

If it's not a turbo, it's tough without a friend. I had a friend who was in there who cashed just out of the money. he was a little pissed about that.
If you want to try something fun, try a few sit and go's. most casinos run them all the time until there are enough entries. if your smart and DON'T play a cheap one, you can actually play some descent poker. 40 +5 or 50 +10 is useless. try 100 +10/15 or so. that's not bad. and first place usually is around 1200 or so.
